Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

My thoughts and prayers are with you in these trying times. I'm sure you are disappointed he did not experience repeated 30k's, falling through the floor, getting killed by ladders etc in his short game play time. But you will get through this. We will get through it together.

Perhaps watching hours upon hours of Star Citizen twitch streams so you can find a clip of a bug to post will lift your spirits?

Yeah, found it quite stable

Played for about an hour, entirely in Area 18.

(snip)

Was just space baring up and got a warning and the auto pilot took over and crashed me.

Overall felt functional

Haha, funny as hell.

EDIT: Just read later replies. What? That wasn't meant as a joke post? Oh....

See, there's no bugs until you meet one, oh and by the way here's a checklist to avoid them. Checkmate FUDsters! :)

Sorry, just tickling you. A little dishonest I confess. I'm sure it's more stable than before and admit some (me included) have hard times to see SC in another way than a half empty and leaking glass.

Vasious' feedback, all the more during a free fly event, tends to prove us wrong.

Refactors! Refactors! Get your refactors here!

Also interactive buttons! Yes, let's talk about the groundbreaking interactive buttons in the 8 year old alpha, because that's what is really needed at this time.

Female dev leads by saying that she doesn't think bigger is always better. LOL, yeah, that wasn't scripted :p Still, someone for the backers to simp over.

Still working on the small ships, refactoring them.

Chris still MIA.

Also, got to love the title "A fresh start"

Early days my friends, early days.

EDIT: Some salty comments.

“We’ve added this great tech and made this system modular so we can add great content down the road”,... 4 years later,.. “We’ve added this great tech and made this system modular so we can add great content down the road”.

Asking the real questions:

I know stuff like this is important..but it simply doesnt deserve that much attention...same goes for "improved throw" "death animation improvements" and what not...that stuff should just happen and dont need an entire segment on either ISC or the roadmap...it just feels like there is nothing else to show. And if little stuff like this gets this much attention..or takes so much time to finish...how long will big features take..at one point u have to release this game

RDR2 is also Vulkan-based, I wonder why CIG claims to be waiting "until Vulkan ships".
Even X4, which is actually a space sim, supports Vulkan. BDSSE, NBDB, BDSM, SNAFU...

I'm practically sure there is only one instance for the whole system atm. Multiple instance is part of the server meshing normally.
Dear sir, your lack of knowledge led you to wrong conclusions. FYI, multiple instance has zero relation to server meshing.

This is complete and utter bull dink.
One of the most efficient team of CIG marketing : narrative design, for successfully making some people swallow enormities.
You can see it in action with your bare eyes in the alpha + in the task manager performance tab. That's why you have also some "useless" blind corridors before arriving at space ports, to let the assets finish loading before taking your ship.

Streaming assets like that is rare in game atm not because developpers don't know how to do it, but because every PC AAA game has also to run on PS4 and XBOX. Those consoles can't physically stream assets fast enough (their HDD is too slow). With the new generation of console with SSD, what SC have done will also be found in a lot of future AAA games.

So what's your definition of instance and Server Meshing for SC, I'm curious ? Note : for what I know atm there is only ONE instance in SC for the whole Stanton system.

Another reason why most games won't do this is because it means there is a constant server demand while people play the game. This increases server costs, and makes the game more difficult to scale / fund (as your costs increase with your popularity). I can't see how SC can ever go live without a subscription, given their heavy reliance on this kind of asset streaming, it should be interesting!

But CR said no subscriptions!
