Interiors, why?

I prefer to think of it as realism. Why on earth am i doing brain surgery in a spaceship simulator?
Once again....an arrogant authoritarian attitude to this subject without any actual data to back up your pontifications, coupled with a VERY narrow and uncreative view of what possibilities could exist for this game. Ever think that as the captain of a ship, you might be called upon to do things outside of merely piloting your ship? Ever think that the facilities in a medical bay of a ship such as found in this game would include some form of autodoc that would perform a lot of the detailed medical tasks for you? Your role in the medical bay would be to mostly oversee and possibly provide human decision making in how the work should be initially carried out? You seem to be VERY narrow minded about these things.

The same reason i dont expect a bus driver to oversee the work of a doctor who chartered their bus. I'm a pilot, not a brain surgeon.

Once again, this is absolutely practicality. The amount of effort required to design these various mini games that people want implemented is astronomical. This is a game about flying spaceships. If I want to play a brain surgeon simulator, I'll go on Steam and buy that. The one thing I absolutely positively do not want, is a good game being inundated with weakly implemented irrelevant sideshows that only take away dev time from truly important aspects of the game.

No, with all due respect, this is a game about being an individual living in a futuristic version of our galaxy, as stated by David Braben himself, you are a person and not the ship. This is a video game and not a simulator. FTL and interstellar travel do not exist therefore cannot be simulated, even though Frontier did a great job in giving you that impression in their game. I am happy that you are enjoying the game in its current rendition, as it truly is a great game, however games evolve. Considering that Frontier stated that new players in Odyssey won't even have to be pilots or start on ships, validates that there is a broad spectrum of game play that could be seen with a little imagination.

Now I KNOW you have to be trolling. I actually know a couple of ships captains and they are often called upon to perform other duties besides piloting their ships. Sometimes they help out the engineers. Other times they have helped with medical issues for their crews. You are still being insufferably arrogant with your statements. No actual data to back them up either. You are so fixated on this "brain surgery" thing. I really wonder why.

Interiors, why?”
....Why not ? \o/

flimley

because it could be something else that is actually useful. You realize that doing the interior of whatever the hell it is is a lot more work than the exterior? Interiors mean less of everything else. I can’t really find something more costly than modeling interiors just for the sake of it.

Let’s model pilot bladders.

you have to go take a dump in a fully functional ship toilet.

when you land you have manually service this and empty it.

because it is immersive to do so.

when someone asks you why just reply why not.

This is just an opinion disguised as a "few questions".

Sorry "grandma", but I'm not taking the bait.

Don’t take the bait yet reply. Here is how you don’t. You move along.

Just a few questions respectfully to you people.

Why exactly do you want to walk around in your ships? In what way will it make everything better? Why wouldn’t you rather have new ships to pilot than have huge amounts of work sunk into making Doom Eternal level sized ship interiors?

Because, yeah it is a gigantic amount of work. I modelled a few military vehicles for work and it was a very long process. The longest I did took 6 months, it was a tank. It’s smaller than most cockpits in Elite.

Seriously just walking around will captivate your attention for a month and then you’ll stay glued to your seat like before, that’s my prediction because Ifail to see what it adds aside from a few wow moments.

geez I guess it’s more than a few questions but what the hell...
Just stop. You know all the answers already and if you can't even guess at them then you have so little imagination that you wouldn't be able to understand any answer anyone gave you. This has been discussed to death it's a done deal fully resolved. Send Frontier an email and ask them why David Braben and everyone on the original dev team was so excited about ship interiors back when they pitched this stupid game on Kickstarter. Or maybe watch some of those videos yourself. Seriously.

I want walking around in Interiors for all the options it would present for follow-up gameplay. For example, walking through my Anaconda to get to engineering so i can repair the Power Plant, the only piece of gear I can't restore on a Deep Space exploration mission.

Walking around interiors, or more accurately floating around ship Interiors also means EVA is a thing for patching holes in the Hull or how about this, they need to build a Ruined Anaconda Interior for players because that means their is a Ruined Anaconda Interior to board and collect salvage from NPC ships/POI's.

On top of all this the Ship interiors badly need an overhaul and have all the misaligned textures, gear, regions, sizes and other things reworked. In fact i would see the creation of actually mapped to scale interiors (and if you think they are mapped to scale go see Arvey Jay and his roomscale VR cockpit reviews to see how out of wack everything is) as also a great time to e-think how the ships and loadout work in Elite.

Sure "just" walking around would get boring very quickly if it is only on your own ship, but extend that gameplay. Exploring wrecks on planetary surfaces or adrift in space. What about adding a new class of Rare Commodity one that is so fragile it can't be bulk loaded but one where you have to instead carry it on board and store it in the Captains Locker and then you are hunted by priates who disable and board you and now you must defend the interior space.

I could keep going.

Anyone who says their would be nothing to "do" in an interior other than walking about is just salty and doesn't want to think about the possibilities.

I’ll send over my future posts to you so you can approve them, are you alright with that?

I will require your fax number to do so.

Here is a noice scenario.

You are currently exploring your t9 because you’d rather be doing that than flying. You are currently using the rear masturbarium. Suddenly, oh noes! An interdiction! You proceed to pick up your trousers and walk back to your cockpit which will take you a minute.

rebuy screen.

I think the biggest challenge for ship interiors is having someone internally that actually would enjoy any of the options in gaming you could do with them.

I'd imagine for a team that enjoys personally player housing in mmo's.. that developer should be bursting at the seams to implement it because there are so many and proven opportunities for monetization. Same with eva gameplay... maybe some x series fans.

For something more like frontiers culture of at arms length god simulation... If instead a developer asks the question 'What should THEY want' yeah ship interiors would be much harder as you can cut down every idea fairly easily....

Unless you wanted it yourself... which makes it a no brainer.

And what about the time they spent on making the 3d models for the livery / store views?

I found it ridiculous that they used resources and time for that .

Indeed.

Any idiot can "build a house" in Minecraft, for example, but it takes some real imagination and effort to create something that's ergonomic and useful.

Similar thing with ship interiors in ED.
I'd like to see something in ED a bit like the construction yards in KSP, where you could drag & drop modules and then link them up with corridors and conduits.
I could spend hours playing with stuff like that, trying to build something that I could walk around and it felt like being aboard the Millennium Falcon, the Nostromo or the Enterprise.

I might be surprised but I can't really see FDev bothering with that. 😕

Copilot NPC. Or autopilot.

And if you decide to wander away from the cockpit while you're in supercruise, that would be a bit like leaving the cab of your truck while you're speeding down the interstate. A bit... risky, and it's a risk you take willingly, with appropriate consequences.

Honestly man, you're grasping for straws.
