Open letter!!!

You know, I don't like calling you fellas carebears, but I gotta be honest, I don't know what else to call you.
I've been using PvE community which is a pain to type out. I'm thinking solo activist though. 😂

Unlike "griefer" and "ganker" which do actually describe the behaviour of those people accurately, carebear does not......it's purely an insult. A childish one at that, hence my IQ remark.

Not sure if there is a name that could possibly encompass the differeing playstyles that all think deliberatly spoiling someone elses fun is not a good thing to support in any way. How about "fair players"?

There are plenty of insults or irritating language on both sides. Stuff like 'epeen' for example is just as annoying to describe people who fight PvP.

What about a compromise PvC?

Totally agree, thing is to differentiate the many PvPers who play with more self restraint and pick fairer fights when possible (outside of PP and BGS) and communicate what they are doing and why. The majority are like that (with some slips into the darkside). But the ones who thrive on killing the weaker players...I have no time for that type at all.

I am not sure it has to do with IQ, but it for sure shows some cognitive limitations.
But that is true about the entire never ending and always pointless 'open vs solo' or 'PvE vs PvP' discussion.
The term is used as it's a quick, easy and well established way to summarise a common player type:
  • thinks all PvPers are 'griefers' and members of SDC
  • looks down on competitive or aggressive playstyles because they are too intelligent and socially advanced for that caveman stuff..
  • everyone else should be beholden to their moral code
  • is prone to armchair psychology
  • thinks cheating is ok when they get attacked by a player without consent
  • likes to taunt gankers from solo in system chat
  • makes sure any pro PvP idea or suggestion on the forums is shouted down, using adhominems if the poster is argumentative

Sorry but i'd say you'r the one doing generalities here.

Yes, that's the point. The term 'carebear' is used so everyone knows who is being talked about... the same way 'griefer' 'or 'ganker' is used to describe the opposite.

I mean if anyone else has a term that will better describe this group of characteristics they are free to propose it.. but language is usually an organic thing that evolves on its own so the term will probably remain.
