Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I had been secretly hoping they'd add something like this eventually. Between this, the improved freighter customization and inventory management (shots fired Frontier!), and the "anomaly detection beacons" which you can stumble across while asteroid mining, it seems like they're doing a lot to improve the in-space part of their space game. Still holding out hope that we'll see some improvements to ship handling and dogfighting, as well as (my dream) proper shared multiplayer base ownership in the not too distant future.

Ooooo...
They have even padded out their notes with improvements in VR too :)

I could like this....

Even though NMS (and this particular genre in general) is not my cup of tea, I find this to be the most incredible story of redemption the gaming industry has ever seen .

From one of the greatest release fiscos, a complete fiery nosedive crash of a beginning, to completely turning things around, picking up the pieces and regaining with full merit the trust and satisfaction of their players. All out of sheer will and passion from a few developers to turn things around and deliver a worthy, memorable game like they always wanted. All in just a few years time (3 years I think?), with every single update building on existing foundations and expanding gameplay in many ways. Good show.

The irony is - I quite liked the original release! It was limited, and nowhere near where they said they were going with it, but it was fun. I got 60 happy hours out of it before I got bored.

And coming so soon after the E: D bareboned release letdown, I was just coming around to the idea that this is just how the gaming industry works now. Release a bare product, and build on it over time. And HG have left no stone unturned to do just that.

Looking at the two games now - it's kinda shameful really. Although I hate to make comparisons because they are completely different games - but I'd take a 1/4 of the effort put into NMS over the past 4 years into E: D. From a team of about 10 people, starting from a core of 3. NMS is a masterpiece.

Well, I bought the locator for a derelict Freighter from a station Scrap Dealer and played through the 'quest' on the wreck, actually not entirely bad and a happy hour spent wandering around.
Nice to be able to put a teleport on the Freighter too, that will make life somewhat easier.

All in all a nice update to the game.

I am really looking forward to trying this. It is a feature I've been hoping to see at some point, too. (But my main request remains an improved weather system.) I am looking forward to jumping in tonight to give this ever-evolving game another spin!

I’ve just had an explore of a derelict - very atmospheric in VR and I especially like the zero-G clutter that bops away from you when you walk into it.

Marry this gameplay to ED’s megaship audio logs and I’d probably pop like one of those alien slime clusters :)

Went into nms yesterday to have a look. The abandoned ships are a nice feature to add, not really a scary atmosphere, but good anyway.
HG have done wonders with the game since I first played on the first day of release, lets be honest, it did need it. But I have enjoyed the game from the beginning. I was a 60's child so those sci-fi mags were well and trully read through, the game style-art etc makes it a little nostalgic.

I tried it out. Did some scavenging on a derelict freighter, but didn't have time to finish. Overall, I think it's crazy how much great stuff they keep on adding. It's like getting a new game several times a year. One of my kids said he wouldn't mind paying Hello Games some extra cash for all the extra free stuff we've gotten so far.

Anyway, one thing I really wish they could do, is to add base building akin to Scrap Mechanic. You can do so much in that game, and if the mechanics in Scrap was in NMS, it would be so far beyond anything that exists on the market. Basically, I play Scrap and wish I had the stuff that's in NMS, and play and base build in NMS and wish it was more like Scrap. :D

Oooh.... it's time to get excited again..... a note from Sean reads....

Hello,

Next week Hello Games will be releasing an update to No Man’s Sky. We’re calling it "ORIGINS".

Detailed patch notes will follow, along with next week's release.

Four years ago we announced FOUNDATION, our first major update for No Man's Sky, we promised "It won't be our largest update, but it is the start of something". Those words were true at the time, and they ring true for Origins. We called it Origins because it is the beginning of something new, as No Man's Sky continues to grow and evolve.

BEYOND came out last year, bringing VR and hugely expanded Online play, and since then we have focused on releasing more regular updates. SYNTHESIS, BYTEBEAT, LIVING SHIP, EXO MECH, CROSSPLAY, and DESOLATION have been some of our most popular, surprising and transformative updates - leading No Man’s Sky to have its biggest year to date.

We know there is a huge appetite in the community for No Man's Sky content, and the team has worked our socks off this year to deliver in difficult circumstances. We have been quiet, but we are always listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about.

This update will be another small step in a longer journey. We hope you can join us.

Thank you,
Sean

Releasing next week? Nice.

Just a pity I didn’t manage to snag a 3080 graphics card, NMS VR really needs something beefier than my 1080 to run at any of the higher settings and I’ve been holding off starting a new game until my PC has a bit more oomph.

I’ll still give it a check out - interesting that it sounds like the start to another “season” of updates.
