Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I recently watched movie Tenet.
It is a very bad movie IMO. confusing time travel plot + bad audio makes it hard to understand whats going on
Then reviewers come out saying they must be at fault themselves they're to dumb/stupid to understand this magnificently complicated movie and that everyone should watch a 2nd and 3rd time.
Then after watching 3 times they've convince themselves the movie is actually good.

Just give it another chance XD

I thought the flight model of SC was a muppet too. At least I got that from comments.
And sure, ww2 dogfighting is a thing and it was compared to SQ42. For Elite I don't see a danger if this arcade feeling will be confirmed.
If the flight model is interesting though... oh boy as an X-Wing/Tie Fighter Veteran I love the look of it and the Star Wars setting. :)
It was where the online gaming thing for me really kicked off outside of the old BBS meet-ups on Barry's world servers for Tribes 2 and the like...Microsoft Gaming Zone and XvT :)

I'm not much of a PvP player these days but I'll certainly be giving Squadrons a bash to see if it rekindles my nostalgia..

No I m just saying I dont think Star Wars Squadron even wants to be a space sim game and it does space dogfighting only so I cant really see how it ll "kill" SQ42 which is supposed to be so much more. But Squadrons even looks fun which SC doesnt when I base it on Sovapids vids so far. Squadrons is more like SCs space arena or something. I suppose it ll be a good game even tho not my thing (too PvP for me).

(Read recent medical assets + recent medical gun + recent dev talking about medical stuff = upgrade to medical gameplay incoming)
Dear sir, that's empty promises and wishful thinking. Also, graphics on those jpegs looks dated already.

Granted, if the Star Citizen project has demonstrated one thing its how impossible the true vision of SC is today for the industry at large. Chances are the more competent studios dont even attempt such a game because they know from the start how impossible or how much of a risk it is
I have to disagree. Technology is up to the task, with proper management and $300+ millions it's doable. Thing is, only large publishers have that sums, and they are all about making profit these days. Pouring this money into a space sim is pointless for them, as space sim fans are much fewer than Fortnite players, and big publishers invest into other, more profitable genres.

I very much enjoyed Tenet (only watched it once, promise!) but the criticism of the audio mix is completely valid... there were a couple of parts fairly early on where you could barely hear a word, and it's a point in the film where you really need all the help you can get gaining some context and useful information.

I'll be interested to see just how well SW:Squadrons captures the WW2-in-space feel - you could see it both ways though, it's both something that scratches that itch for people, but could also act as an indicator that there is still a market out there for it. Then again, you could definitely argue that the market is for that feeling done well...

warcraft?
Never played Warcraft either strangely enough...I only really got into RPG's (MMO or otherwise) when Bethesda released Morrowind GOTY edition on the original Xbox...then Oblivion as a release title with the Xbox 360.

Up until that point, my exposure to RPG's was limited to 3d isometric things like A Bard's tale or the Baldur's gate series during the 90's on PC. I was a division 1 Tribes 2 player with my clan back then so team based FPS shooters were my thing... when I used to have reflexes and hand/eye coordination. :D

Baldur's gate especially was real fun to play in a LAN party :)

it's all personal opinion of course but to me i really didnt like the experience.
it felt like taking a test but not getting enough time to answer all the question. and then if you want to complete it all youll have to pay again and take the test a few more times XD not gonna suffer through it again.
Also the marketing say it's like a james bond spy movie but it felt much more like terminator IMO with all the time travel stuff.

I heard many good things from baldur's gate I should really play it but havent gotten around to it yet.
I'm replaying older games. roller coaster tycoon 2 but somethings are annoying with the old games like getting to run on fullscreen.

Baldur's gate (1 and 2) are still available on Steam with Steam workshop mod support...I tried playing through Baldur's gate 2 a few months ago but couldn't quite get the vibe from it I had from back when we all dragged our PC's around to eachother's houses on a weekend :D

Anyone else still miss LAN parties? T'interweb is fine and dandy sometimes... but the opportunities for chucking half eaten Doritos at a mate when he's concentrating on something in game are sadly lacking

LAN parties, yeah. Me and my friend playin submarine simulator, and each other wondering that from where that artillery fire is coming from. Each of us deck ai artillery crewman decided to start artillery duel :D

I used to love BG LAN parties :D Although it wasn't a directly adversarial game - it offered some of the best PVP out there :D

Plus all the rig admiring, network creating, cable crafting, keeping the ex-gf supplied with enough Archers and lemonade to let us nerds stay up just a bit longer and promise not to disconnect the Sky box, and sending Whiffy Jimmy off to the off-license to buy more crates of beer as it'll take forever to install BG on his dual-speed CD relic and he forgot to bring a 10base2 t-piece yet again!!!

Fun times!

I really dont miss carrying my 25Kg CRT monitor (and T-base network wiring, what a hassle..). But yeah these were really fun.

As for the flight model discussions: an arcade FM cannot scale up from small ship engagements if you want players to actually pilot bigger ships, and have fleet engagements. Also defeats the purpose of turrets which are very much there on many ships, and slow TTK needed for the planned onboard repairs etc. If CiG want to move away from a pure pewpew fest they will have to continue slowing down things, that also means revising the vehicle model (currently default CE model.. sigh..) and probably player movement too.
