Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Nothing about exit to menu though.

And yeah, in space stations, i can see that happening. On planets, presume you will be able to get out of your ship anywhere and be directly outside your ship, otherwise it would make exploring on foot in the black impossible.
Go back and watch the vid again...but listen to the dev comments. I just watched it again and I still get the same impression as I did at first. One of the end comments set that feeling...

"If you want to continue with the ship gameplay...that's fine. If you want to play on foot gameplay, you can do that...If you want to play a combination of both in ship and on foot, that's great." Not a direct quote but that was the gist of it.

That describes 2 separate game modes with an option of one or t'other, not one organic game mode where both are combined...as in Star Citizen combined. I'm not on about walking around in ships, we know that's unlikely.

Ummm.... how's he get 3 AAA titles? I mean, i know they love making stuff up but either he is counting 3 parts of the same game while ignoring Star Citizen itself or ... something else?

Since the topic is when will the game be finished I believe it is:

3 AAA Titles are Episodes 1,2 and 3 of Squadron 42

As they are story line games they will reach a finished point and be released

In contrast to Star Citizen which as an MMO will never be finished per se

What I get is something like current ship vs SRV gameplay. When you take out SRV for a drive, your ship is there, other peoples ships can be there, and they even can shoot your SRV. Shared instance.

I really hope they get rid of the hologram nonsense for multicrew...and let other player characters drive your SRV and not continue to be limited to being hologram SLF jockeys.

Yup, i heard the same, and that to me sounds nothing like exit to menu to do it.

Again, how would the exploration component work? Exit to menu to get out of ship (or SRV) and then reload into some sort of CryEngine... erm... Cobra Engine map?

I just can't see it. If they have gone that way, i can see pitchfork sales going through the roof!

idk the way they say traveling between systems within jump range from station on feet seemed strange.
they said you could do that to play outside the port. That i dont understand what they mean. why not hop on your ship and jump.

I doubt it.

I'd love it if we could see our NPCs in our ships, and invite others onto our ships and sit in seats (even if they can't walk around), but i don't believe for an instant that will happen.

That one had me thinking they were talking about doing passenger missions, but in this case, you're not the mission doer, youre the passenger. But I could be totally wrong and I'm not quite seeing the point of doing it. If you did that, then you'd still need to call your ship over.

I suppose i could see a use case, especially if the transport was near instant.

You take a legs mission to go steal a component from another station in another system. You have a choice. Go back to your ship, get in ship, take off, jump, fly to station, dock, do mission, then return... OR, while in issuing station, hitch a ride to other station, do mission, hitch a ride back, potentially saving a lot of time.

Its a stretch, but its all i've got at the moment.

Nah, it’s literally one of the pillars of the DLC that they can mix:

coordinate with teammates to master a multi-layered, deep, tactical environment where Commanders, SRVs and Starships converge.

I think what you’re seeing there is that they’re trying to wrestle ED away from being a pilot game alone. If a new player really wants to only play as a character, in theory they can do that (getting 'taxis' to places, rather than piloting themselves etc).

As Agony notes, they’ve already talked about how you get out of ships / SRVs to explore in that location. It’s definitely not a firewalled 'ships or legs' modular thing.

Went over to spectrum and /r/starcitizen to see if anyone was mentioning the new Odyssey trailer. Didn't see anything, but found some fun threads on Spectrum.

I'll remove the http parts so they don't get parsed and pad out the post.

Top comment:

Seems a bit unfair to pick just one feature that those games have that SC doesn't.

Gave me a good chuckle, the way some backers love to pick out features that ED doesn't when comparing SC while ignoring everything that ED has that SC doesn't.

Another comment couldn't have had worse timing

Elite have pretty much stagnated at this point due to the devs only adding new grind and less actual diverse gameplay

Got to chuckle.

As usual, people coming up with more ideas how CIG can spend their time on completely unnecessary and stupid things

robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/using-star-citizen-as-a-bookshop

A thread mentioning CIG's shows and its noted how there are less shows now

robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/enjoy-the-break

Umm.... were not subscriptions meant to fund those shows? That was the point of subscriptions right? So, where is the subscription money going now?

And finally, a thread asking if people still believe in iCache and Pyro coming soon.

robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/who-still-believes-in-pyro-and-icache-in-3-12

One backer probably hit the nail on the head.

The "Secret Stash" is a Myth: CI isn't sitting on a bunch of content and hoarding it from us because of "reasons"

Reminds me of ED and the vertical slice excuses people gave.

So, it isn't the reason they are working on. They might be able to? Maybe? Probably perhaps? But they could also do it by upgrading the version of DX they are using and optimizing the current mess.
I use 'might' and 'maybe' because I'm not allowed to use 'will' in this thread.
They had to choose between DX12 and Vulkan for the switch from DX11. The generational gap and the work to be done to achieve it is the same for the two, it is above all a strategic choice.

That's a message about the fact that there is on foot gameplay not requiring any flying in ships.

Also, this is a short video on particular aspects of Odyssey.

You used might for the later part, but you used a definite statement at the start. You basically tried to pass the whole statement off as being fact.

That's why CIG works on Vulkan and why they need it.

It might be a language issue, but i find it strange your language issues always seem to be biased towards making definitive statements rather than being overly fuzzy.

And you can use "will" as long as its appropritiate and you're not trying to make statements sound factual when they are not. Otherwise people will call you out for it, just as you can call someone out for doing the same. ;)

Hey guys, just hopped here from page 406, didn't have time to go through all that since that new Odyssey trailer dropped.
How many SC defend... Uhm... Enthusiasts came here to do some form of damage control?
