Should materials be buyable with cr

Materials can be quite the pain to obtain, from blowing up ships for manufactured materials that somehow still work to driving around a planet all day looking for raw materials.

If we were able to buy these materials then there would be less of a grind and it means more people would be able to participate in pvp etc.

No!

Unless i know the person well im sure "hey let me hoover up mats while you kill everything and i don't contribute nothing to the wing" sounds about as appetizing as bacon cooked on a radiator, or at least that's a similar more political response to what i just got on Discord to test your theory and back up my own experience.

and typically we hang around in communities with similar interests, so yes majority of my friends list are dotted about the galaxy with no interest in combat other than when they're after mats themselves at which point we dont need to be fighting over PI's and its more efficient to do it solo. if drops were doubled in a wing it might encourage co-op play but until then... (and even then two ships harvesting with limpets will get very messy indeed!)

so its not that players overlook co-op its that it offers no benefit, even in the scenario you highlighted its all one sided, if it offered benefits for both players then people would be more inclined to let you tag along. (for example 'reward = Bounty X players in instance'.. who knows, or combat EXP = NPC Rank X player number multiplier) therefore the other player can earn more money or more exp for letting you tag along, (and those are just examples of rewards)

A good example was EXP leaching in Diablo 2 (IIRC), it was acceptable because more players = more loot & more EXP so there is incentive there to add them to a party both players gained something, but the minute the 'noob' started steeling unique loot then a new party quickly formed. its just human nature.

point is while there is no incentive to let you sit there hoovering mats up while not contributing, therefore co-op relies on an existing relationship or rare in game opportunity which isn't common practice, and probably why co-op doenst happen between strangers, but you're correct in the fact the dev's have overlooked the co-op potential here.

Let me know if you're on PC and you fancy tagging along in a CZ. :)

that would be awesome, although I'm on Xbox :)

D'oh!

+EDIT+

Makes me wonder, though, if there might be a need for some kind of general "link up with other people to do stuff" mechanic somewhere - either in-game or on the forum.

Squadrons and FC's allow you to signal your intentions.
Surely it'd be possible for players to do something similar?
You could set a little "activity box" to show that you're open to assisting with co-op play and then others could search for that.

I for one have spent a mind numbing amount of time farming for engineering. Making different ship builds and tweaking them is one of the few joys I have left in the game after 6 year of a lot of "meh".

Looking at a new build and dozens of hours of grind and RNG jesus to get there just makes me click the "log off" button.

Material vendor yes please.

Engineering is finite. I've nearly done 7 ships in total, and I haven't found it boring or a drag that much at all (I did it slowly over years).

If your goal is to start from zero and rule in PvP next week, then you're being unrealistic.

Is it "grindy" to farm HGE, or the shard sites? Yes, but then no. I can spend 30 mins/an hour, get a bunch of stuff and engineer something. I do this daily for 2-3 hours, as well as other things, and guess what? In a couple of weeks, I have a fully engineered ship without too much effort.

There is tons of stuff to do to break the monotony.

Show me any other game that isn't "grindy" or repetitive. If you start analyzing anything to that degree, none of it is enjoyable.

Same way I did. No rush, engineering is meant to be a long process and I'm glad you can't buy mats for credits ... it would ruin the progression in game (which is already broke with credits being way too easy to get).

Well of course materials should be available for purchase with credits. The only question is: at what price? The answer lies in a fundamental restructuring of the game, wherein players would be allowed to trade everything between each other - materials, commodities, ships and ship components - and wouldn't need a carrier in order to do it. In this way prices would find their natural level. Set the people free.

As someone else said in another post somewhere, materials are the true currency of ED, cannot be stockpiled infinitum and are not subject to inflation. So no credits for mats would be a bad idea. Having said that I wish the grind wasn't quite so grindy and the cross trading rates were a little more favourable

Can't wait new ship to start gank ? :D
Mats are good as is. In fact it is too easy. Takes only 2-3 days to make 1 ship. Other games require 2-3 months for 1 set.

What they could change - a way to get or rename stuff. I feel dumb I need to destroy ship to get something produced on factories. But as game loop it's not hard.

Nine pages on this thread. Nope it will never happen buying materials. The Devs figured out the balance long ago all about getting players to experience the game. G5 all engineers and a player has a lot of experience. Nothing to see here. These are not the droids you are looking for. Move along...move along.

I watched the first Star Wars 1977 movie at a drive-in Los Angeles. After it was over I had to actually drive a car to get home versus today a Sidewinder if we could own one would make the trip a lot faster.

Because,
1. They are easy enough to find as it is.
2. See point 1.

Not for those who don't want to do the finding because they find it a grind. Play your own game and let others play theirs.

Do you recall discussions about player-owned bases? Time after time after time: "it's impossible"..."Braben won't allow it"......"we'll all die of cancer"....etc etc. And yet here we are with mobile player-owned bases.

I remember it all. But what Braben said in 2005 doesn't mean much in 2020.

George Lucas releasing Star Wars in 1977 said that he would never release it on VHS or BETA for home viewing. Years later Industrial Light and Magic made billions in sales with the Star Wars movies even to this day. George was wrong. Braben was wrong. Both are very rich. Not all that bad being wrong...

So, it's about 50 / 50 and since the collecters enjoy the collecting and find it 'so easy' and not a grind we may as well include a buy option for those who want to play the game their own way.

Human Sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. (Ghostbusters - the good one).

Ya give me the instant win..... Do you want a participation trophy also?
