Sure, they aren't the same, but SC still has no need to create, store and load large amounts of art assets. Same as ED.SC is using a mixture but not in the way ED, NMS and Minecraft allow the game all by itself to generate complete systems or biomes without any manual artist input.
What heresy is this? Shouldn't The Holy Roberts purge those heretics?!Ooof... looks like the citizens aren't having this sort of guff either. Its not getting the upvotes it would have in previous years.
That's odd since the Minecraft system requirements for space is 4GB, ED is 25 GB and SC is 63.5 GB.Sure, they aren't the same, but SC still has no need to create, store and load large amounts of art assets. Same as ED.

Being in glide and seeing other ships on the planet.
It's the fundamental advantage of procedural generation that ED, NMS and Minecraft take advantage of. No need to create, store and load large amounts of art assets. It has disadvantages as well, of course.
I think we can all agree 2021 is the year when PC gaming will be saved.
If not then I think we can all agree 2022
My gut feel is that 2021 will be make or break for SC. Other space sims will be previewing their more updated content by then and Odyssey will be out.
No game by 2021, no 2022. It's the age of COVID, the usual tricks won't work anymore.
You're falling into the same trap people have fallen into year after year.
The only thing that will determine if CIG will continue or not is backer funding, and it seems it doesn't matter how good or bad CIG do, funding continues unabated.
Unless of course, the tracker is a load of bull.
LINKQ: So if I understand correctly, Icache will open the door to separate the player and the character(s). Meaning, we'll be able to make more then one character. Meaning one of the requirements for death of a spaceman (If you die, one of your character inherits your stuff), will be done.
Chad McKinney: We are laying some of the ground work that will help make it possible, but I am not saying that once we get icache and global persistence in that we will have a split between players and characters. There is more work there to do both on the backend and in the game before that will be ready. For example, there are some service level interfaces that will need to be updated to account for the separation, and a lot of game code is going to have to change.
Most of those 63.5 GB are ships. In jpegs. That's odd since the Minecraft system requirements for space is 4GB, ED is 25 GB and SC is 63.5 GB.
Again, no offense, but you don't get it. Procedural planets alone IS by its very nature a massive exploration element. The sheer size and complexity of space stations, and each new part of them added (like this patch which has the cargo decks) IS exploration. Large ships, which, by the way, are *** LARGE, are exploration, and they're damn fun. You ever watched one of those ship walkthrough videos on youtube, where the person walks around the entire ship checking out every nook and cranny? That's exploration.
