Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Ahhhh, smug mode.

That's all engineers unlocked.

Didn't realise hatchbreaker limpets were such a pain on that megaship. And the collectoers, bless 'em, kept getting stuck and doing the "round and round the mulberry bush" dance. Still, another experience to chalk up to knowledge gained. And it gave me a chance to dust off the Clipper. Not the best boat for tight manoeuvres but...

So. I now need more tritium. That may take a while.

Onward!

I am busy getting addicted to CGs again, this time in my shiny new toy an Imperial Cutter and I have to say one of the most disappointing things about it is how shiny the bridge interior is.

I will say that its ability to shield tank even with bi-weaves is incredible, I have at times been totally focused on trying to get that spec ops Vulture round to where I can shoot back at him that I haven’t checked my shields but was sure that I would soon be in trouble but when I have looked I have barely lost more than a ring.

Overall impression of it so far is quite favourable but I don’t think it will be one of my top favourite ships.

I've moved up to CZ mediums, playing in my Vulture. If only I could survive spec ops. All is fine until I'm found by one of their number. I just can't stay out of their gun sights. I'll boost down to try and get under them but it's just not working effectively enough to increase my shield life. Am I missing a trick here, just how do you get out of these ships sights and them into yours?

First part of the trick is to run away and make sure they are occupied shooting your allies.
Second part is to leave the Alpha to last as the others definitely come to his support but taking them from Delta to Alpha you have a better chance of 1v1 fights.

This^^^.
Look for a big blob of green allies on your radar and boost straight through them. Usually the tasty targets are enough to distract the Spec Ops.

An especially useful variation on this is in the Conflict Zones that currently have mega-ships present to duck in and around those as close as you can, a few stray shots from your pursuers can get them in a world of hurt.
This depends of course on you being on the same side as the mega-ships and being prepared to not get the combat bonds for the ships they shoot.

I'm enjoying my new stealth Cobra. I never much liked the Cobra in this game until now. It's not as stealthy or as nimble as my Dolphin, but it packs a whole lot more firepower, and the hard point placement is actually perfect for my preferences. I will keep the Dolphin for pirating and this ship for stealth combat. I'll have to invite CMDR Jenny to be my copilot next time I go out!

ps - Cobra midnight black is on my wish list ;)

I haven't had the game for long so I am still learning.
I started off by mining in the 'new pilots area' until I had enough to buy a DB Explorer, then I went into the black to find and map quite a few new systems. That took about two months.
I came back to the bubble and sold my data and earned myself just over 120,000,000cr. With that I got myself an Alliance Challenger.
I am currently in the Ackwada system helping out with the war (I won't say which side I'm helping). I have not touched the Engineers yet or done any Xeno stuff. I visited a few of the Guardian systems but got bored with having to drive back and forth with artifacts all the time to unlock data terminals.

I have done a few missions too and passenger trips.

My future plan is to buy a FC then go exploring again. I'll also use it as a bulk transporter. I will find pristine mining sites and gradually fill it's huge cargo hold with goodies to sell back in the bubble.

Today I discovered my first un-tagged Neutron star. It's mine now, mwahaha! Er...yeah.

Of course the views were outstanding.

And seeing my name on it was a nice thing, too.

I went down and landed on the closest planet (about 1600ls from the star). I thought perhaps the Neutron star would look cool in the sky.

But no, you can't even see it from the planet surface. Even in space I found that I had to be within a couple ls to see it.

Still..the sky was full of stars :)

Was actually surprised yesterday (yes, even after 5 years, the game still has surprises). Had set up an iCourier as general mischsion runner - armed to the teeth, 1 GJ shields, lightweight everything (thanks to Liz' new rack), 850 m/s boost, no jump range and plugged into a G5 armoured/thermal PP. It gets real cozy while scooping (70-80%), but actually runs very cool otherwise (~30% idle). Apparently, that's cool enough for NPCs to not notice me when shooting missiles. I had the NPCs (DBX) shields down and he was running, I was launching missiles when I received in local comms "What enemies? Those strikes come out of nowhere!" shortly before he went boom.

Asp Scout just got a beating off the Spec Ops, dropped in right on top of me. Jumped out at 55% hull, went to the Med CZ with 3 megaships.
Managed to take out 4 ships before ammo out. ☹
2 small rails and 2 high cap Pack-hounds, it's fun, but the NPCs in CZ are real bullet sponges.

Might take the plasma Dropship out for a spin, it'll probably melt.:D(y)
