Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Regarding the image in your signature: Betelgeuse 2 I guess? I recently visited that planet. Great little trip out of the Bubble, and that star is mighty big. AFAIR the planet is further away from the star than the distance from Earth to Sol, giving some sort of indication of how big Betelgeuse actually is.

When sitting there on the planet looking at the star, for some strange reason I think I heard somebody shouting "DEHYDRATE!" ;)

I think so. Some time ago, I made a list of the supposedly hottest planets in and around the bubble, with the intention to use them for a buckyball race. That is one of them - but I don't remember which one. I'm reasonably sure it's not one of the two that let you scoop on the surface.

Ran a few missions from Cubeo waiting for the PP tick last night, and hit a familiar problem, losing my thrusters / ability to roll on both the T9 and the Cutter. V strange. Did a bit of searching and learned that there’s a feature on the XBox where a click (accidental or intentional if you know what you’re doing...) on the left stick switches you into an alternate set of flight controls.

Need to test tonight, but may have learned something new. Might take it as an opportunity to add a couple of key binds for 75% throttle and ‘select next system’ for those emergency escapes.

I keep meaning to have a look at that.
I think the original idea was for landing pads, so you could have better thruster controls.
Keep meaning to change it, for like, four years. :D

Whilst I'm not the most capable combat pilot out there, I thought the Mamba did quite well against 'goid scouts.
I realise that I am horribly out of date, but I love my Mamba. I alternate for combat between FDL and Mamba, and can't split them by as much as reputation suggests. The FDL turns much better, but the HP placement on the Mamba suits me much better (the low class 4 on the FDL takes a little more thought for my flying style). So I love them both.

That said, the FDL will always have a special place in my heart, as it (finally!) got me to 'Dangerous' last night. Phew!!

In game, I'm still out in the void, making my slow way back with no schedule at all.

In RL, I'm heartbroken over the loss of my little co-pilot, Dusty. He was an old bunny (about 8 years) so it wasn't exactly unexpected, but it was sudden. His body just...stopped working.

So here's a toast to all the sweet furry family members we have. Love them while you can.

Here's a picture of him outside in the grass, a Spring or two ago. He was the best of the bunnies :)

Super sorry to hear that. Two cats here, can't imagine how it feels. So sorry. Looks a happy bunny.

Something you've not tried yet @Alec Turner ?

🤔 interesting - you could do it at a planetary base maybe - wait until a landing pad has lowered in order to turn around and then jump the SRV in through the gap. Actually ... is it even possible to fly something small like an SLF in through the gap when a landing pad has lowered? Some experimentation is clearly required!

Perhaps if you can manage that at Hutton Orbital your SLF comes out the slot as an Anaconda!
Good luck with the experiments.

Engineering the AX Courier 'Hot Pants' progressing well, short of mats, time for a collecting session. Unfortunately the Clipper and Python are both out at Robigo*, only got the the Keelback, which just hasn't got the internal capacity.
So I've bought another Python, purely for HGE collection, 'Scavenger II'.

The Keelback will be converted back to Rescue services and Guardian site visits.(It's excellent for squeezing into tight landing spots).

*Nope, they're both out at Witch Head, the Python's called 'Robigo Runner'.o_O:LOL:

When we tried it in the course of the making of the Buur Carrier Science Experiments clip, we found out that the hangar force field remains active - you can't fly into an open hangar. At least not on a carrier.

That's just what I use my Keelback for. Started off as an explorer (fighter hangar!) but found myself visiting more and more Guardian sites with it, so it kind of stuck. Love the Keelback.

I didn't get one until I was well into the game, then realised I'd been missing out. Very versatile little ship.
Tried it with railguns/gauss, but it's a bit too twitchy (joypad).
Part of the 'Rescue Ship' business, I always have AX weaponry, for the pesky Scouts at mega-ship rescues.

The best bit about having a HOTAS with thruster controls is landing. Such a joy to use all degrees of freedom while docking. After getting the HOTAS I developed what I think of as the 'winch' landing where I essentially imagine a rope connected between the nose of my ship and the front of the pad. All movement is essentially heading straight at the pad while pitching, rolling and thrusting simultaneously.
I perfected this on rescue missions. For some reason I routinely approached the megaship with my direction of travel opposite to the direction on the pad. No problem, head to the pad, roll onto the roof then thrust downwards. This pulls an arc to place your landing gear firmly on the pad, nose in the right direction. Very satisfying. Is this just me?

Engineering the AX Courier 'Hot Pants' ...

Fantastic ship name! :ROFLMAO: I wanted to post a picture of a pair of those but they were all way too lewd for these boards! The B52's did a good song calld "Hot Pants Explosion" though!

Aaaaanyway, ahem.

I was taking screenshots a little while back to capture my first disco's. Since I started my trip to Colonia (and back again), I've given up :D I think I'll delete them all now. If only there was a proper, in-game way of getting them to be listed... I'm sure there must be a way of interrogating the dbase to get an ouptut into, say, a spreadsheet.

Ah well.

Just the nerd in me :D

I was also flying around the carrier when I noticed this:

I wonder what those names are all about...

Well, nothing happening in Witch Head, so...
I've got a closing down sale on the Carrier, all the Guardian unlock bits left are getting sold at lowest price (I've made millions out there). Honestly I'm cutting my own throat here!
Once empty, back to Ray Gateway to drop off a couple of ships, them another refit for the carrier (made a hash of it last time).

Once recommissioned, the carrier will be crammed full of Tritium supplies for a humanitarian mission to Colonia.
The Deck Officer 'Ruby Curry' will be in charge for this 'exciting' trip to Colonia.

I meanwhile, will be either doing the CGs, or more likely causing trouble in the Empire.
Since I've signed up for Delaine, I have an urge to cause bother.😁

Edit: Ah, dagnabbit, I can't send the carrier off on its own. I have to be on it to transfer fuel reserves. 🤬

Continuing the ‘zero throttle, shift to Combat mode’ this eve, had lots more fun doing Imperial rank missions (will I ever be a Prince?!).
Not sure if I have the right set up, as done so little combat compared to the rest. Basically throwing weapons on a Cutter and hoping a little - couple of Pulse Lasers, couple of Beams and a Plasma Accelerator (which seemed to take an age to reload).
Still, first time taking out a chippy interdictor by ramming it 😁

anything I should obviously consider on this build while running the occasional mission waiting for permission to purchase some Prismatics?
