HP Reverb G2 - The Hype is real

Well, the AMD launch is next Wednesday if memory serves. I'm too old to believe they will save the day, white-horse-style, but if they have something remotely competitive and have stock, they will slice through Nvidia's cake like a hot knife. Hoo brother, I wouldn't want to be on the yearly investor meeting in Nvidia's HQ then.

Anyhow when I heard Jensen saying "dear pascal friends it is safe to upgrade", I smelled a rat :p Luckily my order is "pay in store", so I can wait.

Would be fantastic if they push something out that nips at the heals of a 3080 at a lower price. Doubt that will happen some proper competition would do wonders for pushing things forwards and dropping some prices 🤞

Got an email today saying they expect to be shipping my pre-order G2 the 2nd week of November (Fingers crossed) Other orders are shipping in December. Hope AMD can come up with something on the 28th. (More fingers crossed)

o7 Commanders, I'm thinking of getting a HP reverb G2 and have a cople of questions which I'm hoping you can help me with. I know my PC is up to the job.
1. I'm running Windows 10 v2004 and run ED as stand alone program ie not through Steam. What software do I need to get running in VR with the HP G2?
2. I use a HOTAS and don't really want the HP Reverb hand controllers, or do I have to have them ?

I don't get mine for a couple weeks but I'm guessing this page has some of the info you need...
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mixed-reality/windows-mixed-reality

I will wait until I have the G2 before I start installing the Mixed Reality software though.

You will need Windows Mixed Reality https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/mixed-reality-portal/9ng1h8b3zc7m?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR. This needs to be downloaded and run through Steam.

To play Elite via the ED launcher (and not Steam) :

1. Launch WMR and calibrate HMD
2. Launch Steam
3. Launch Windows Mixed Reality For SteamVR
4. Launch ED via launcher

You dont need to use the hand controllers at all.

Thanks very much for the info, exactly what I was looking for

The first G2s arrived some peoples. It has started. It seams they are in their date window and in the next 8 weeks everyone get his ordered G2, depending on when they ordered it.

Already some Videos on YouTube about the final G2. MRTV have his one since ~16 hours and did already a first impression video and is happy so far with the final product, but he need more testing. His first impression is, that the image quality is very good, HP find a good compromise between brightness (it is in between the "too high" how it was first on his preproduction unit and the brightness after his firmware update) and black level and the colors are still as good as in his preproduction unit. The product quality is very high and much better than from the preproduction unit.

Not true, leave a controller on the desk and use it to hang the rag you'll be using to wipe the fog off your lenses after a few hours in a CZ :ROFLMAO:.

I think they U.K. pre-order partner is starting to get a bit embarrassed by HP now!

We were going to wait until we knew the units had been shipped from Factory on Friday 13th before we gave an update as we have been misinformed a number of times before. However, we have received so many calls and emails in the last two days that we decided to put this out there and update again on Friday.

For enquiries about pre-orders before September 24th

"HP Press Release September 24th, 2020
Customers who have already pre-ordered the HP Reverb can expect to receive their shipments this fall, starting in early November 2020. Pre-orders are expected to be prioritized for the time/date the order was made to our channel partners.
We had a meeting with HP today (November 10th, 2020) and were told shipment from factory to the UK of first pre-orders will begin November 13th , 2020. Once we have proof units have left the factory for shipment to the UK we will provide our customers with an update on numbers and date of delivery to them.

Full email from HP UK Partner, including statement about pre-orders made after Sep 24th

"Demand has been high so all pre-orders made starting today, September 24 will start arriving to customers from channel partners in early December."

HP has not given us any further updates regarding pre-orders made after September 24th.

It’s pretty annoying that SystemActive (though not their fault) promised everyone with orders before 24th would get them on day one. Looks like they will be coming in slowly and we are getting them in order of when they were ordered now. I ordered mine just before the first pre-order window so doubt I’ll get mine until December now :(

The emails I have had from Systemactive, 13 in all, have only ever said I will be one of the first in the UK to get the G2. No promises, just that they have been waiting for information from HP. They seem to be as frustrated as the people that ordered. I ordered mine in early July. My guess is HP got way more orders than they were expecting.
