Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

This is just.... something.
With Star Citizen I see a certain group of people constantly bash the game for being almost devoid of game loops etc, I like to argue back that the players are meant to buddy up with friends and roleplay thus creating emergent gameplay. Literally, all that needs adding is a few more NPC mission givers, a slightly bigger market system, some better AI, exploitable fauna and a few more ships. That'll be pretty much a released game

Huh? Sounds like a recipe for stone soup.
I mean, look at this, we have the alpha stone, all we need now is:
1. Add NPC mission givers
2. Add big market system
3. Add better AI
4. Add expoitable fauna
5. Add a few more ships
et voila, your released game stone soup is ready!

In the meantime, until we get emergent gameplay, have some submergent gameplay:
o7, going down!

Note to self: don't forget to repost that clip when CI-G ship finally sinks.

Took my usual poke around Spectrum and for once looked outside General into their Other Games and Off-Topic sections. And my, they really don't like to talk about things other than SC. Its rather strange. Maybe it will come more alive if SC ever releases and player engagement increases.

Which, just to deviate a litte, but even looking at General, it doesn't really seem like a forum with alledgedly thousands of active players. Even with the alpha state, there are claims made that SC already has more active players than ED... so why are their forums so much quieter? They look like a forum with less than a thousand active people on.

Anyway, i digress, found a thread about Cyberpunk

And saw this funny comment.

I'm weary of games I think to be overhyped. And there's few games that are so overhyped as Cyberpunk 2077 is

Says the Star Citizen backer.... oh boy.

Interestingly enough though, in those parts of the forums, it seems like the faithful are not only less present, but also tend to get shouted down more. Almost like those who actually play other games are not as blinded by CIG/CR.

Apart from the dozens of threads on the meaningless elections, which are certainly kicking up a lot of fuss about something that only changes the name on some screens, we have:

Yet another thank you CIG letter

Top comment is good though

I'm in my 50s and hope to live to see this game published.

Someone daring to ask about progress.... oh dear

There must be a growing body of components/functions/details that have been completed by now...

Haha, someone hasn't been paying attention for the last 8 years.

Someone who is absoloutely clueless about the griefer/ganker mentality shares their (lack of) insight

CR has consistent said he wants a high fidelity, living & breathing single (shared) verse. That means no gamey player looting restrictions, no pvp flags, no split pvp/PvE servers.

Strange, because i definitely remember CIG talking about a PvE slider as well as private servers.

And yet another person showing zero understanding of what they are talking about

Still, interesting proposal, and a good way of stopping children from playing the game... unless of course, they use mommy's or daddy's credit card... and of course those who live in countries where they can't pay via credit card.

SC are amateurs at this stuff. FD were as well, and took a long time to get things even at least somewhat under control, and its still a problem. Fornite has a massive problem with cheaters. GTA has a massive problem with cheaters. Many popular games do. All because hackers know what they are doing.

May I quote our dear SaltNPeppaMike:
"Let's be honest guy, the game feels pretty much... humm... dead [laughter]"
"It's actually kind of hurting my Star Citizen's Experience, is like playing games that are somewhat polished really makes Star Citizen look way worse than when you only play Star Citizen"

Well you say that AA but did you know if you walk away from the NPCs while theyre talking they ask you where youre going? You didnt mention that immersive gameplay did you, you FUDster! Its Alpha!

#notacult

Well unless the god in question is Loki...

The bargaining is strong with this one. seems like bargaining will go on a lot longer than usual as long as the project is 'alive' theres always hope, the real process stars after its finalised and the cash-support machine is turned off and all youre left with is a hollow shell of what once was.

It’s the whole process of awarding projects to the lowest bidder, as opposed to the most realistic bidder, IMO. I wonder what would happen if the whole process became open to independent and peer review...
And problem is chain bidding. Say main contractor may be realist bidder, but then said contractor subcontracts stuff to other bidders. For example in case of OL3 nuclear power plant, many piping works finally went down to Polish company, and said company had NO experience of working in nuclear projects. Nuclear stuff has very stringent quality requirements. Now when welds made by workers of said company were x-rayed, many were found to be of sub-par quality. Probably good enough for some other industrial purposes, but not good enough in nuclear power plant. Everythin needed to be redone. Those kind of mistakes have nasty way to multiply and wreck project timetables for good.

I logged in to say. This post should be stickied! :)

This is interesting, something i wasn't aware of before.

Apparently SC's unique high fidelity subsibliumtious AI wasn't entirely developed by CIG. It is in fact middleware.

I can only presume they did what they normally did, which was take something that works out of the box and proceeded to break it.

You sure they aren't developing their own "Starthera" that only took a few days to do. Someone should probably also tell Kythera that SC has a license that lets them do anything they want with their product. 😂
