Elite Dangerous need to get serious about Cross Platform.

And yes - Crossplay really works in BGS. If you ask for help, it may even come from a XBox squadron :)

Exuse me mr genius, but if your not using the xbox platform, how do you ask for help from that squadron rolls eyes

You could at least make the effort and quote me properly :)

After that, check this thread:

A single commander made a plea to help a faction. Lots of people from all platforms converged to help, yours truly included

Good point. We need to invent some sort of cross-platform communication method...

It needs to work with lots of different hardware: mobile phones; computers; consoles. Maybe shared underlying technology, but the upper comms layers can be specfic to that platform.
I'm just posting this up now to remind myself, but will check back on my phone and/or web-browser on the PS4 later if i think of anything.

Because many factions run their own discord server where they coordinate players across multiple platforms and modes, including Xbox, PS4, solo, group and open, and while some of us are quite happy using the tools at our disposal to coordinate with other players across disparate platforms I realise there are some who simply can't handle that level of flexibility.

Can you imagine 4 years ago when NMS was being released with so many issues at the time and piles of salt being poored on the small development studio?? And look where it is now:
Indeed. Maybe someone may like the game, maybe not but what is unquestionable is the Devs commitment to making it everything they promised before launch - and more - all for free.

I'd like cross play just so my I can have my wife sit shotgun in my Adder with me. Her on XB1, me on my PC. I don't think we're spending the cash on getting her a PC to play it on any time soon.

@StarDemon

So having made a post like this when I first started in ED, wondering why the only mechanics for meaningful Player vs Player interactions in this game are passive aggressive and weighted in favor of solo/group players, I can tell you that 99% of the responses, including those from volunteer moderators, are going to be snide, smug, arrogant troll efforts.

The result in my case was everyone in my gaming group refunding, leaving or just passing on the game: long story short, this is a very entitled and very toxic community if you're not playing the way the resident noise-makers think you should.

I'm all for players from all platforms that can use the same game.
What I'm not crazy about is when different player factions from different platforms go against each other in a war or an election where you cant see them or combat them as they are on a different platform.
Recently we lost our station and control of a system of a PC player faction to a PS4 player faction in an election/war . How do you fight a "player faction" if you cant see them as they are on a different platform. The reality now is that now they know they can steam roll us, They will look to take the rest of our hard fought and worked for systems as well like a greedy take take take cancer faction. They cant have the rest of the galaxy but they have to prey on our systems and we are unable to interact with them in game.
This rubbish needs to be sorted out and is ruining mine and other players in our groups gameplay.
Either
1. Make xbox, PS4 and PC all have their own galaxy to work in and interact separately
or
2 Make cross platform a reality so all platforms can see each other in game and it becomes a level playing field

I like playing against AI and I like playing against human player groups, but how do you compete with a human player group you cant see or have combat with.

Frontier have done this on the cheap to grab the console dollars and I get that , greed is good. But for game play it totally sucks as there is no game balance.
Either you make cross platform a reality like every one can see everyone like in other cross platform games i.e. sea of thieves. or give each platform its own server to interact with.
Its only a computer server. its not hard and your making a bundle of cash supporting a galaxy. get it done.

In the earlier days I could see how cross-play could have been biased toward PC players, but now there are Thrustmaster sticks for the consoles (at least Xbox), for use in ED. Nowadays? I'm not sure how this isn't, at the very least, an Xbox Play Anywhere title (PC/ Xbox).

Players affect the galaxy from any game mode - so cross platform would not mean that any opposition could be engaged using PvP.

Other players are optional in this game - affecting the galaxy is not.
Not only from “any game mode” but from any instance. So even if a player and his wingmen are working against a player group in open on the same platform, chances are they won’t be instanced with their foes anyway. That’s just how ED works - it’s instanced, not a single shard like Eve.

I don’t understand why so many PvP proponents fail to grasp this simple fact.

I can totally relate to frustration around this topic - I've just convinced my friend to buy this on his PS4 only to discover that we cannot even fly together in a wing.
That's very unexpected and disappointing.

Regardless of mode ignorance .. more games ARE becoming cross platform MP now. This could be a real shot in the arm esp for CQC. NMS is the latest to have it
And it still doesn't work really well in NMS.

I suspect there is more than just turning on a switch involved in getting these to work. Not the least of which is permission from the respective (other than PC) platform sellers.

Please elaborate more on how you could defend yourself here?

I assume you lost the system to the other faction, meaning that your faction was in control of the system...

Lets ignore the existing instancing problems, and simple assume working crossplay and perfect instancing.... and totally ignore Blocking and that PvP are optional part of this game.

So my faction invades your system.. and you decide that you definitely do not want to loose this system, so instead of actually understanding how BGS works and get on with this, you decides to pick out your combat ships and wait in supercruise and target "any" players who you thinks are working against you... you have no clue what players are part of my team, we do not even need to have our own squadron, so we are just a bunch of players sharing a discord channel...

So you found some players that might or might not work against you, but hey, you get to do some target practice. And since we play the BGS, and it was an election, we are NOT running around in combat ships, so we are likely very easy targets. Bam, bam, bam, our ships go boom, all over the place, you sit there and feels mighty important over your PvP skills, and then next update, you notice how you are loosing influence and we are gaining...

because, BGS is not designed around PvP, it designed around other mechanics, and when you decide to destroy our ships, to protect you controlling faction, yu are actually undermining your own status, as we are CLEAN ships, and you are now committing murder, so not only are you loosing your own standing with your own faction, you are now subject to less security, as the controlling faction is CLEARLY failing to keep CLEAN ships safe in the system! So your factions influence is hurting by your actions.
So we can now happily change to cheap ships, that are fast to kill. And let you get as many PvP kills as you can rack up, and those of us that you fail to catch, they can keep diong the the BGS missions and earn even more influence for our faction.

This time you you complain about a player group in a different platform, you have still not grasped that fact that there is no mandatory Open only for BGS either, so all of this could as easily have happened by a PC player group only playing in solo/private group and you would be none the wiser about who that player group either.
