Elite Dangerous need to get serious about Cross Platform.

Might as well add my vote. I'd rather see cross platform playing than any other new features. The fleet carriers are neat, but basically just more of the same. There's no good reason I can see that they can't coordinate between the Xbox and PlayStation companies to do their later updates in a timely fashion.

More available players is better.
What do you expect from cross-play? Having a save state across different platforms?

Cross Play isn't dependent of the ability for video game producer's. It's entirely based on the particular manufacture of the various devices one utilizes to play the video game. Microsofts Xbox, Sony's PS4 are not privately owned and operated companies, they both have investor's. Who demand a return on their investments. Making their devices "Cross Play" compatible with each other, wouldn't be conducive for an investor. What investor would invest in two opposing companies that are in competition to improve their bottom line thus provide higher returns such as MS and Sony are?

Hi - Not sure what you mean by save state. What I mean is a single universe with all platforms participating. I get how the background sim allows interaction across platforms. I think all players should be able to interact the same way, in person. More players is better.

* Note: I'm aware there are possible technical difficulties which may prohibit many players in one instance. Communication issues already happen when our squadron gets together in a wing and runs into another wing of players. Having more players from different platforms may well exacerbate the issues until it's no longer playable.

I meant having an account on one platform and being able to play from that account on any other.

Suppose for a moment if you don't already own one, you have a console. Unlike those on a PC which have the ability to add a variety of mods which can enhance their abilities in very aspects of playing ED for example, consoles do not allow for such. Would you really want to play in a galaxy, where you'd have such a disadvantage?

I'd like to have the choice, yes. What kind of mods do you have in mind?

Free extra commanders on console?

If you don't know of any off the top of your head that's fine, but this sort of snarky response doesn't mask that as well as you'd think. It just makes you look unfriendly.

Don't have to be nice to have a point ;)

Maybe there is a valid point hidden in there. With an example of the kind of mod Cmdr Nemo LXXI has in mind that point could be established or rebutted. Without one we just have unfounded hearsay.

I stated earlier in the thread that depending on hardware, PC players could have an advantage with things like framerate & controller options. But console players have multiple Cmdr slots I think, and there may be other factors (like game mods) that I have overlooked.

I want to know what you have in mind. I'm in favour of cross-play & have discussed potential issues at some length previously in this thread.

One of the easiest and actually have no effect between devices would be the ability to change HUD colors to pretty much anything one wishes, do console's have that ability?
One which could and would make a difference though I'm not up to date as maybe I should be is "Voice Attack", does it work as designed on consoles?

People keep using voice attack as evidence of a PC advantage.

It really Isn't.

Voice attack is a terribly slow, inefficient, and crucially unreliable control method that is more likely to cause you to fail to do something time critical than it is to help.

A button press is vastly quicker and more reliable than a voice command.

Voice commands are super cool and immersive though.

Ok. The user should have to purchase the game for each platform. After all, they each were an individual costly effort for the owners. However, if they have purchased the program for the machine, sure, why not?

And yes - Crossplay really works in BGS. If you ask for help, it may even come from a XBox squadron :)

Exuse me mr genius, but if your not using the xbox platform, how do you ask for help from that squadron rolls eyes
