Lost potential in the CG

The current CG is involving combat zones between the Empire and the Federation. If you read the local news though, it is stated that a megaship, the Freedom's Chance, has arrived in the system to collect Marlinist refugees for evacuation.
The ship is indeed physically present in the system, but everything is reduced to just flavor text due to PG/solo modes.

And before you start, let me clarify that Im NOT suggesting cancelling solo modes.

But just imagine the potential of Freedom's Chance being a SECONDARY goal of the current CG, that is open-only, in which the Imps will try to block access of the refugees to the megaship, and the Feds will try to break the blockade.

In general, secondary goals involving mandatory player to player interaction, while not cancelling the purpose of PG/solo, will give a whole lot consequential potency to the game, and actions will have a tangible impact to the story/BGS/etc., while being able to be really countered by opposite actions.

And, who knows, maybe even "gankers" will find a new meaning in the game as well, cause I really believe most of them are just bored and frustrated by the lack of causality in open mode.

I am a 99% PG player myself, but I cannot hide from seeing the lost potential here.

And, by the way, congratulations to the FDEV team for the Galnet, CGs and story arc! What a comeback indeed!

Was watching Emulated Penguins stream earlier and a guy found a Crashed Anaconda on planet 6a, I went to confirm and its a POI so I am guessing its perm.
Interesting thing is part of its cargo is on the ground and one of the Items is a Thargoid Sensor.
I find that interesting because the Empire has said the marlenists used thargoid tech in the making of the bombs used.

I then checked all the cargo holds on the two megaships in system. No tharg tech found though. Just the generic rares and junk you find in them.

This isn't a ship collecting marlinists for evacuation. This is a ship that came with marlinists from empire systems, related to the supplies delivery CG - there's one of these for every system mentioned in that one, for a total of 6. Each of the ships has a local news entry and a data uplink on the ship itself with the name of the ship and which systems it contains marlinists from.

Charunder - Liberty's Horizon (234 G. Carinae and Mazahuanses)
Ennead - Wings of Peace (Baltah'Sine and Mazahuanses)
HIP 36081 - Hope's Sanctuary (HIP 39470 and CD-39 3269)
LTT 1935 - Freedom's Chance (Beatis and Nahuatl) - Notably the planet it orbits has a 'crashed ship' point of interest... with thargoid loot on the wreckage. And now we got a CG out of it.
LTT 3607 - Spirit of Solidarity (234 G. Carinae, Baltah'Sine and Mazahuanses)
Thetis - Future Dreams (CD-39 3269, Beatis and Chana)

Ackwada is missing from these as no mega ships made it out of there.

Noted :)
But my suggestion still stands nonetheless. Just imagine this scenario I mentioned, as a secondary pvp goal. A part of the CG to satisfy the open-players.

I completely agree with a secondary mode. Even a "simple" implementation such as a special CG-only extra type of CZ/scenario that you could queue for, and that would be made up of players-only.

Well surely they wouldn't be storing Thargoid Sensors in their cargo holds where any random CMDR could snatch them...

Would be fine if they just made a secondary CG where you could either, aid imperial ships in damaging the megaship, which then makes you able to pop open the escape hatch, and capture the marlinists taking them back to an imperial ship.

Or, work as the feds, and defend the ship, and if it get's damaged enough, you have to pop the escape hatch, and save the marlinists, dropping them off at a nearby station/megaship.

If this were conflict let run as a conflict using the usual conflict mechanics, and not just an orchestrated bond-farming exercise, fighting at Freedom's Chance would definitely be viable.

It would be cooler.
I don't feel it could be... -that- hard to give people some kind of personal counter showing them how much they had affected the outcome relative to other commanders.
It'd be coding a new system to show it though

Something interesting happened in Deciat to me the other day. I felt the urge to run the gauntlet there on my alt account, Novice rank and only timidly engineered multi-purpose (aka not very sturdy) ships.

I took all precautions in my approach to Farseer, was within 7.5k range when I requested docking. I did notice a lot of CMDRs in the instance, and lo and behold I got the dreaded "Access Denied" message. I flew a medium ship, and had to immediately turn around and managed to escape, but I was lucky in that I noticed this early enough as my ship wasn't very fast at all.

If gankers in large enough numbers were to block pads during a CG (easier when megaships are involved due to the limited pad space) how would you get around this issue? Enter and leave the instance in the hope you survive? I reckon most would just end up blocking vast numbers of players. I agree that the potential for an Open only CG is great, but when you consider how the reality is likely to pan out, not so much.

... yes but that there should be a special "Open Only" part to provide players as "content" (...secondary goals involving mandatory player to player interaction...). My understanding is not even slightly impaired, thank you.
yes man, whats wrong with that? A secondary goal with less impact that the main one, just to satisfy the gameplay needs of those ppl.
Also, "players as content"?? Really now? No one would force you to participate in the secondary goal. It would be just an option for those who want.

You could reach the pads the same way they do. Or there could be a max timer on the pad. Either you go in hangar, or you launch. Those are really easily manageable details.

I also play PG in the main and can sort of see your point but I would be against it on the grounds that an open only event excludes or forces to pay more part of the console player base which has to pay the console provider extra to play multiplayer game modes.
Myself as a PC player I am against it as one of the reasons I play PG or Solo is the amount of lag etcetera when there are large numbers of players around.
