Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

There is a strong impulse to want to rant and get it all off one's chest but to keep it simple, for me it boils down to 8 years no show, and you are right about development slowing down @MTBFritz which is incredible and gives me the sense of a deep rooted failure to engage with a rational development process. I am thinking they are going to reverse polarity with the server hype at some point, like they did with DOASM.

I am not sure how long this will take to trickle down to people still backing. When will the bubble burst sweepstake?!

When will the bubble burst sweepstake?!
My money is on last month it got a puncture. Or rather its not, my money is in a safer place.

I think there are two main competing forces. IMHO, Chris is running a confidence scam so if the backer confidence falls low enough CIG will run out of money and it will end. On the other hand, Star Citizen now looks good enough in Twitch streams to attract new backers.

1. Could have already happened, the confidence I mean. 'Its done when its done' + realisation that 'Quarterly Videos' about SQ42 mean its not ready soon or in Beta anytime soon. 'Spoilers' dont cut it.
2. Old backers knew they were backing a dream, current info suggests you are buying a game. New backers may not have the same patience, they haven't bought the same thing. And to only see one POV on Twitch of a fine running game is a rare thing these days. Hence the 'scam; that older players will 'guide' new players through the disaster trying to get them to look the other way and see the dream not the reality. Theres even actual posts on how to lie to the new player, but ofc they dont call it that.

On the other hand theres this old argument that is rapidly losing traction, faith or ability to quosh the dissent. From Spectrum (iirc the one about not buying any more ships)

A - "acceptable for never been done before on this scale stuff like icache, server meshing and quanta"

B - Except they are not. They just came up with some trendy words for things that are already used for decades, just so they have an excuse for their delay.

icache is nothing more than a buffer to store data, in case a node goes down.
Server meshing is just a server cluster "shards" that is something most MMOs use since there are MMOs.
Quanta is a glorified log system and random mission generator.

The long plan is to have police PNJ able to board ship to physically control cargo with a % of them able to search for hidden place.

You have parameters in SC to lower your signature on different type of signal. Don't know if CIG plan to use them in the police interception mechanism.

Mini-games is one occupation planned among others. The main occupations planned for typical crew is maintenance/repair, radar management and combat. Mini-games are for when there is nothing else to do. We have chess game now because it was easy to add.
There are no crew occupations. There is no crew. I don't know where you pull all that nollocks from.

BattleChess was a pretty bad chess game. Contrived inventory puzzles was never the good thing about Resident Evil, so no idea why they chose to copy that part (actually, I do, but that's besides the point). But yea, some actual game development would be nice to see. Maybe some foundations of purposeful design, concepts for dynamics and overall gameplay aesthetics, maybe even some ideas about mechanics — all of that noise that you try to get out of the way before any real progress can be had. Some of that, and some creativity and artistry on top, could conceivably convince me to say something nice about the project.

But as luck would have it, CRobber is in charge so I will never have to. :)
You could speed up the animations in Battle Chess. Never played any resonant evil - it's some zombie corridor game in early outbreaks, I believe. And pretty much stayed a bloody zombie game even with the early 2010s zombie game deluge. I know inventory puzzles from Lucasarts adventures, do you mean like these?

No, the RE ones are much more stupid and with less logic involved.

You know the feeling of being dumb waiting for your bus longer than if you walked back home by yourself? After few hours of waiting, if you start walking it'll make you even more stupid so you keep staying at the bus stop. :)

Citizens are waiting at the bus stop since almost half a decade now.
Why wait for an hour in the first place? Call a taxi, load in the ladies waiting with you and stop at the next booze shop.

Someone not happy streamers/content creators get access to ships before those who purchased them

And another

and another

And another take...

I am 100% in favor of streamer only ships. Makes target identification so easy.

If only this would have happened today.

Police officer: "Captain Sir, the brochure says to move the queen to unlock the compartment hatch"
Smuggler: "Damn!"

You raise a cromulent point.

As all of them will be the same, then everyone will know where the secret hatch is.

Also better hope nobody brings a pet cat on the ship (when CIG implement their supsumpted pet cats) otherwise it will knock those chess peices all over the place.

The wording always was like this. Perception changes tho. Years ago I perceived this statement as reassurement that your actual game experience will not be affected and I really believe its intended that way (these guys do coockie cutter moderations by now being swamped) but of course when your moderating hand becomes heavier and you grow more sensitive to even the slightest criticism it comes across like abuse of power or threat at some point.

What I take away from his AMA is that its hard to believe that this guy has been a follower investing money on a regular basis since 2015 claiming to be "in the development business for a living" (you think you are an expert on this topic but if it took you so long to recognize sorry to say...you stink at your job). He has witnessed moderator abuse on others. He was witness to several incidencts where CIG broke their word, walked back on their promises and all the ugly community wars since. He chose to turn a blind eye or simply didnt notice because he was so entranced. Things havent changed in Star Citizen since 2015. The development is as slow as ever if not worse. The communication and transparency is as worse as ever, only the flood of propaganda has lessened. And only this year he chose to not go along with it all thinking he needed to post a message? Its development might even have deteriorated more but thats hardly an excuse when you are new and choose to ignore more knowleagable people.

I m glad people are waking up but this misconception that the development only started to turn sour and fall apart....sorry dudes. This is an ongoing process since way before 2015.

I also have a problem with people who are "okay" with unfair or scummy business practices as long as they are not affected personally. The things that happen dont change, if you are really so unempathic or thick that you cannot translate or recognize unfair treartment to others until it happens to you my sympathy for your "awakening" is kind of reserved. Its "justice" when the enablers receive what they defended for so long in my eyes but even with this guy turning 180 there are so many more willing to pick up his slack.

So many posts these days enforce the perception of Star Citizen being a cult and people willfully deluding themselves to a degree thats bordering on the criminal. At what point do government agencies become a part to protect people I wonder? Only when the results or practices afftect their own income (the fact that tax fraud is severely punished while more serious crimes receive kids glove treatment was always a pet peeve of mine)? I m hoping that CIG will become too greedy or too stupid to avoid stepping on bigger toes at which point they ll receive what they deserve but until then I gotta endure watching as they become more and more extreme and so many people voluntarily going along with it....even turning more extreme themselves. And I also recognize the fact that the company might be led by people who invest criminal energy in order to fleece their customers on a big scale and get away scott free based on legal loopholes or business prcactices that allow them to skip away (aka scam..I know you all knew what I wanted to say but cant hurt to say it one more time :D) and get away stinking rich with no punishment at all.

Scams generate suspicion at some point due to the nature of them being scams (that is...taking in resources and failing to produce results). Its really only the perpertrators and the people benefitting from it that have a reason to defend it after people start to ask questions. When this process started in Star Citizen all these years ago I remember quite a few people wondering if we see professional shills or maybe SC devs in disguise doing the defending but the theory of "cult" has gotten traction since then and is being confirmed over and over by so many examples that the "SC cult" pretty much IS a fact by now.

I am not looking away or ignoring it because if you ignore such things you are only enabling them. Thats the reason for my walls of text saying the same thing over and over and over with just slightly variations. Of course I m going to see this thing through to the end but "figuring out if I was right" is only a minor part of it. I m pretty sure I m right by now so what I really want to see is justice served. And of course I wonder if it ll ever come to that because the reality is that a lot of scams today end without a splash and big bang and people are NOT getting punished making you wonder why you are truhtful and honest when you see dishonest and scummy people getting rich on other folks dime without repercussions. My mental set-up makes me the perfect victim in this world. And I know that.

The remaining people just like the OP of your linked thread are too far gone to wake up through outside influence anymore. If he followed since 2015 all the events, all the information and all the fallout was out in the open. He saw the examples, the reports, the theories and the ugliness yet he either didnt take it seriously or chose to ignore it. At some point he feels he is entitled to some mild criticism (his OP certainly is polite and pretty mild) and without warning receives the same treatment so many others before him received for "daring" to speak up.

And that hurts.

Because you want to tell all of them "look here, I am your biggest fan, I love you guys, this has been a mistake I just wanted to give you suggestions to help make SC a reality" but its too late. Your fellow cultists have smelled blood and what they do is irreversable. The community you learned to love, that gave you a feeling of safety and protection is casting you out and the things that are said hurt so much that you would require an apology in order to get over it, but that ll never happen. Not by CIG who cannot afford to stay by your side regardless how many tens of thousands you put in (Bootcha, FTR, Beer4theBeerGod and so many others) and certainly not by the keyboard warriors giving you the treatment that you ignored on others for so long.

Do you think this guy specifically will ever return into the fold of SC? Has that EVER happened with people who fell out with SC before? Not counting the obvious shill pieces designed to make that appearance (I was a hater, now I m a whale). Hes burned now and hes hurt yet probably waiting for CIG to step in and make it right so his language overall is pretty careful but I m sure that ll change. At some point when he realizes hes being cast aside like used laundry he ll become more outspoken, more drastic and more unwilling to forgive.

This is a classic example of people who have a bone to pick with CIG and SC. Who truly turn "hater", this mysterious part of the community that is appearantly so widespread that the moment you fail to praise and uphold SC you are a hater. The abused in this drama have demonstrated for a long time that it doesnt take much to excuse the abuse. A non-saying fluff piece from the CEO himself is enough to smooth things over. When in the past Roberts was inviting people to studio tours or dinners nowadays a developer video with random people rambling on for 30 minutes has the same result. We call it "theorycrafting" but in reality its echo chambers enforcing dreams and wishful thinking to a degree where you start to believe they are reality or your language changes where you talk as if these things are a reality already without you noticing.

I realize I m turning more extreme myself in what I say. But maybe thats by design as well to challenge people or CIG for one simple thing.....

...prove me wrong why dont you?

I am waiting here and sadly, nobody is accepting the challenge. CIG itself is perfectly fine to ignore me but why wouldnt they? I never put any money into this thing but assume I did....how much money do you think I d need to invest in order to "deserve" a reaction? Are 100.000 enough? The "lol you must be stupid to put in that much money into this" replies start at 2.000 or something so there is no hard limit at which I am deserving enough. The replies I do get are weak excuses and justifications provided by people who have exactly as much knowledge as I do. They are not sufficient to change my view. Only Star Citizen can do that. And its true that I use a very harsh metric for evaluating Star Citizen by now but if they produce something that deserves praise I m not going to withhold mine

Maybe in public but if Star Citizen really produces great artwork or designs or results I like I will admit that to myself at least thinking it.

It requires me to check out SC from time to time to not fall behind. Looking myself turns into work that I m really not willing to put into and of course if I only check out the links provided by all you haters its the same as enforcing my own view echochamber style. But using the links provided by the shills in this forum has the same sour aftertase. How much effort and work is justified in this regard? I think I m in an "okay" spot right now laughing along and trying to not become persoally invested. Star Citizen will continue on its trajectory regardless if I laugh or cry. And its perfectly okay to release any results despite my best attempts to "talk it down" so yeah....I think I m okay with waiting for CIG to prove me wrong.

Cant take much longer now can it? Months...not years probably...but who knows? Some soaps are going DECADES by giving the audience what it wants.

In Star Citizens case....lulz.

Are you guys blind to trolling or are you taking the cake? ^^

Or devs trying to showcase their masterpiece to potential investors. Not a good demonstration when you want to show SCs glory and run into Sovapid corpse camping your sorry mutt or Mole who turns into a rabid wolf the moment you fly one of the luxury liners :D

"and here you can see how much detail went into rocks and the sunset over the horizon.....:"
KABLOOM (Sovapid "wobbles" his wings in the destructive flyby as the official teabag animation in SC)
Chat (from Mole): how do you like your 2000 dollar investment NOW sucker?

Yeah...nothing you want to show people you want to fleece ^^

Love how gimmicks are noteworthy now or presented as an example that development is going forward lol. Something like this will only further alienate people who are waiting for some serious progress...its like teasing their heroic patience ^^

Dangit you are a hard customer to please....

What does it take to make you praise Star Citizen man? Real progress and stuff? But the 3D chess board...what about that huh?

Thats actually a great statement to demonstrate how pityful Star Citizen really is. Other games introduce whole new classes, systems, add additional layers of complexity, housing or base building Star Citizen gives you......DRUMROLL ingame chess ^^ Millions and months well spent I ll say :D

Just advertising the AIs level of smartness aka braindead :)

I await the day Fritz writes a post longer than a forum page and breaks the internet.

No.
At least for all ships with turrets and the Mole for miners, there are solid crew occupations with dedicated gameplay.

Its funny, because in ED turret gameplay is derided, while in SC land its "solid" gameplay.

But its more or less identical. Nothing to do until there is something to shoot at and then its aim and press button.

Either ED players are much more jaundiced than SC players or SC players are mainly stuck in their own heads fantasizing about something that isn't particularly compelling.

If i'm going to multicrew, i need stuff to do almost as much as the pilot... although the pilot doesn't have anything to do either during QT. At least in ED you have to keep half an eye on things to avoid smacking into a planet or deal with an interdiction.

Its why i'm more interested in NPC crew for ED and SC, especially since its hard for me to coordinate my play times with others.
