O god, the concept is fine. But as far as I understand FDev changed agreement AFTER the CG. That is just bad PR, you can't do that as your reputation goes down really sharp... Not that Fdev have a good reputation anyway...I am wondering if players don't understand the concept of "If you achieve X, you get Y" and that if you don't achieve X you don't get Y.
I understand the concept just fine but it does not make it good game design for game balance altering equipment.I am wondering if players don't understand the concept of "If you achieve X, you get Y" and that if you don't achieve X you don't get Y.
Gonna correct you here. FD may sing that tune now but when I backed it David Braben specifically stated he didn't see ED as an MMO in anything other than the literal sense and that he didn't want the usual MMO tropes in the game. This is a MMO, like it or not, it's been said by the developers themselves in basically every single occasion:
If Miyamoto listened to this kind of self-centered whiny feedback, then we'd probably have a Super Mario with no koopas, just a little italian plumber runnng straight towards the princess.
Aside of every wannabe troll comment made just to hide the fact that people writing so just were more than happy to have a free toy they know they didn't deserve obtained just by whining a little bit, this is a dangerous precedent by FDed and, most importantly, a new example of how badly Frontier Developments relate with their player base.
This is a MMO, like it or not, it's been said by the developers themselves in basically every single occasion: in the last dev diaries or in the interviews such the one on PCGamer, and in a MMO rules must be clear and fair, and balancement is crucial for the game. In a MMO if everybody gets everything, if everybody "wins", then we have a great problem.
Elite Dangerous is already a highly atypical MMO (never saw an MMO with magical insivibility by design), if you even distort rewards because you don't want to deal with a angry group of players who simply lost the "grind war" against other players, then I can't be very confident about how the new much needed and finally announcend rebalancement will be done, same goes for every new mechanic that will be introduced with Odyssey.
If Miyamoto listened to this kind of self-centered whiny feedback, then we'd probably have a Super Mario with no koopas, just a little italian plumber running straight towards the princess.
Rules are important, some players will be better than others and will obtain better rewards, that's something the community should have to deal with at some point if this game really has ambitions to become "something more".
The COMMUNITY HAS SPOKEN!
Dev diaries said so. Deal with it dude. It's a MMO. Or maybe you claim to know more about the game than the developers themselves...Gonna correct you here. FD may sing that tune now but when I backed it David Braben specifically stated he didn't see ED as an MMO in anything other than the literal sense and that he didn't want the usual MMO tropes in the game.
Also your Mario comparison would be more like IF you play on the 15th of November and score in the top few percent then for the rest of the life of the game you get to equip a cloak allowing you to jump higher that no one else can ever get.
Fair or not to me is irrelevant but it isn't good game design imo .
[citation needed]Reducing the Reward Tier to 75%:
Happy: .0001% of the player base (those who got 75% and 50% on last CG)
Fuming Mad and Frustrated: 99.999% of the player base (those who spent time and effort to meet 25% and those who didn't join the CG and discouraged from the beginning due to the steep top tier goal)
Just give the damn TOP TIER FSD to EVERYONE for FREE or honor the original CG mechanics!
this is a dangerous precedent by FDed and, most importantly, a new example of how badly Frontier Developments relate with their player base.

Should I remember you this is a game and maybe real life comes first?
No one needs to be reminded of this.
Ok so it's what you say that matters and Elite Dangerous is not a MMO. That's so funny to even write it, try to read it again. And again. And again.Given how many bugs have been flagged as fixed and immediately had to be pointed out again, this is really not that much of a stretch.
Giving the FSD to non-participants: ridiculous.
Giving it to some participants, then snatching it away again: not acceptable.
Frankly this seems to be the least-worst option to correct the situation, even though it won't please everyone. At least those of us who did put in the extra effort got more cash.
