Elite is a convoluted mess

I got a new Thrustmaster joystick a couple of weeks ago.
It took me well over an hour to set the keybinds how I wanted................only to press the esc key near the end & forcing it to come out without saving:eek:
Soo, started again & over a hour later finally had 'most' of it binded.
I'v been back in at least three times since, as it's still not all as I had it with my previous joystick....it's damn close though

Oh, & I've saved my bindings folder as well..........just in case I lose the bindings with this joystick.;)
I've had to do it twice since! First for the X52 and in January for the X56... I'm pleased to say that those took considerably less time to setup, I'm still adding functions to the X56 even now, albeit slowly as I forget 'new' stuff that isn't used much :ROFLMAO:

Heart-rending thinking about the Esc press - but well done for getting back on with it... You'll get them all 'right' soon 🥳

Nobody wants my opinion but I’m going to give it anyway, because that’s how the internet works...

I’ve probably been playing for about a year and a half now, with the odd break or two, and I’m still learning, and I’m still loving the game. It’s a sandbox, at its heart whether you’re explorin’, tradin’ or fightin’ it’s a game of discovery. I’ve read a few guides and tutorials to get my going in the right direction but the real fun is figuring that out for yourself. It’s not even a meta thing as I often shout from the rooftops, because it’s a game about spaceships so I build spaceships that feel to me like spaceships and see what works. If it doesn’t tickle my pickle I change things up and see what happens next.

On the key word ‘flying’ has the OP ever played a flight sim? As a kid I played FE2, and I’ve fond memories of TFX on my old Amiga, and a more recent example would be War Thunder on my PS4. Play any flight sim with the depth and breadth of control options of Elite and tell me they’re not as complex. You’ve got to put the time in to learn how the flight model works, what control mapping works, and figure out what does what. You know, probably like I imagine flying a spaceship might be a little like. As with all unsolicited opinions your mileage may vary, but you’re not going to get an instant excitement fix unless you’re like me and you giggle like a schoolgirl the first time your thrusters fire when you first launch.
I’ve always been hopelessly attracted to games with a long term grind/careers.

Most of them have been RPG’s like Final Fantasy, Icewind Dale/Neverwinter and especially the Elder Scrolls/Fallout series...

ED is my first space/flight sim and I love it! It’s not even so much just flying ships that I love, it’s the variety of choices on how to pursue a career and the option to tailor my cmdr’s existence to my own role play.

It’s one of the reasons I’m always so vocal about the games current economy, it ruins the game for me when credits are so abundant.

There’s many things I would change in the game...

For example I’m still sad that ranking up with a superpower is noted with a ridiculously brief email.....no effort was ever made to make gaining ranks exciting for the player by the developers. I’ve always seen that as a missed opportunity to really draw people into the game...

It is kind of sim. Not one based on real world, but on its own universe with certain sets of laws and lore. Think something like on lines of Star Trek, you can make as technical and sim-like trek game as you ever want. Or you could make arcade shooter.
It's loaded with arcade elements. Speed limits in space, cisivie visible lasers, terminal velocity with no atmospheres, magic pockets and magical crafting with what's in them, etc.

The features of the game are gamey in nature, as opposed to focused on being a sim.

Well arcade game has very simplistic mechanics, simple and easy to learn controlls, very low learning curve. What ever skill is needed is more of pure reflexes. Does that fit to ED?

This is the problem with making the game free - no incentive to climb that difficulty wall.

nvm

Pretty much this. Im sure with the Epic release we will be getting a lot more threads from new (free client) players who will swan into this forum feeling the need to tell players who have been invested for years, why they think Elite Dangerous is bad and why their opinion formed in the same space of time that it takes for them to void their bowels is somehow correct and everyone else is wrong.

There will be a lot of eye rolling these coming months.

Yep, pretty much. I'm inclined to ignore this sort of thread myself. Still, might be interesting to Frontier to see why the casual player given it for free still doesn't like it.

And they gave reasons rather than just 'GAME SUX!'

While I agree that they need to hang around and see the lay of the land before forming an opinion, as brand new players, their feedback is valuable, and us veteran players should not scare them away with our aggressive and sarcastic replies. I'm not saying new players are not wrong, just that our passionate response can be too much for them so early in their experience.

Leave a review on Epic store then.
As for a touchy feely approach from me... no.

Im going to roll my eyes at you.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Firstly, did you click on the OP's name to the left of his post and see when he joined and when he was last seen? His post ended with "Adios!" and it seems he really did leave.
Secondly, Was it really a good idea to be sarcastic to someone brand new to Elite and the community? What kind of image does that send out to new people?
Left before the first reply was posted so... no effect on OP.
