Limpets have a time limit on them they will expire after a set time depending on your controller grade.

As for no targets, check your target panel (left panel) to see if the elements you have mined are on your ignore list (I've accidentally added the wrong thing to my ignore list before).

I'd suggest new players to stick to simple trading, than move to mission trading and then mining.

By the time you hit the rocks, you'll be familiar with many technical aspects of the game.
Mining only looks easy, but has too many tiny details which can make your life difficult.

I avoid mining due to the mindrot effect. Alas, Selene Jean requires 500 tonnes mineage and 10 tonnes of Painite. Dems da breaks.

Fortunately she only needs you to mine and refine those 500 tonnes so there is no need to bother trying to sell it just dump it as soon as it is stored which means you don’t need much cargo capacity.

That's just part of the learning curve. Elite can trip you up in many ways but you probably won't make that mistake again.

But you can synthesise them. Four at a time. For 10x 2 mats (iron and nickel?). You'll need more mats than max to fill up a 512 ton cargo hold

You are not the first and won't be the last.

I remember once dropping in to a pristine metallic ring, deploying hardpoints and wondered why no mining lasers popped up.

It says, "No vaild targets" even though there is a screenful of fragments that are so close to my ship they're bouncing off my hull. What gives, FDev?

Did you by any chance :

1. Not open your cargo door for the limpets to drop the cargo
2. Have the material you are mining on 'Ignore' (Left screen, Contacts Tab)

Closed cargo hatch gives Limpet Drone Error Deploy Cargo Hatch or something similar.
No Valid Targets is when everything the limpets can see to collect is on the ignore list.

And now... for some INEXPLICABLE reason, the previously mapped Ring A is a) no longer shows any Hotspots, b) cannot be mapped using the Detailed Surface Scanner.

Went to the flip side of the ring; orange glow markers still not showing, but Hotspot labels now visible.

And now... for some INEXPLICABLE reason, the previously mapped Ring A is a) no longer shows any Hotspots, b) cannot be mapped using the Detailed Surface Scanner.

Went to the flip side of the ring; orange glow markers still not showing, but Hotspot labels now visible.

The inexplicable reason the hotspots aren’t displaying is unfortunately a bug, the reason you can’t map the ring is because you have already mapped it.
