But the AMA is not ever going to be a WWAESQ (we will answer every stupid question)![]()
The problem is that there were no silly questions, just reasonable ones, and that the CMs set themselves up to fall because they knew what would be asked.

It seemed like every other page, there was a "where's Raxxla?" question, which was answered predictably. The purpose of the AMA was stated right at the beginning:
"While we watch the forums to see what the latest is, we're not always able to show our presence and respond in each of the threads in all of the various sections. To give you, our forum users, a direct line to speak with us, we've created this AMA ("ask me anything") style thread. "
Ideally, a CM would be joining in the forum posts with us here, but since FD chose to communicate in public media beyond this forum (for commercial reasons, I should imagine), the CMs are spread too thinly to engage.

this is on point, obviously everyone is entitled to ask anything they like yet maybe it's an idea if key forumites could ask the questions that have been missed? We missed almost all QOL improvements, FC filters, SysMap Filters, POI filters (Geo/Bio), Module storage space and much more...next week we should be better prepared with QOL and more...
as did I, I thought I'd give it a miss whilst it was live and popped in after just to read the answers, I thought there was a few repeated ones as well as the answers that didn't actually answer.I came with illusion to read the AMA thread and almost all the responses are "can't say thx for your question", I ended quite angry and disappointed (but not surprised). Just don't make an AMA if you don't have nothing to say, it's just marketing sense jesus christ.
yes there were. The problem is that there were no silly questions, just reasonable ones, and that the CMs set themselves up to fall because they knew what would be asked.
yes there were.
The art of PR, like politics, is in giving theillusionperception that there is meaningful communication.
But at the very least, the AMA brought the CMs into the forum, to give a welcoming nod to good ideas, to dismiss silly repetitive questions in a polite manner, and to heal a long-lasting rift between FD and the players. It did no harm.
And that has been asked over and over again. Don't get me wrong, it's worth a shot to ask, but being annoyed because this time the answer was the same as the previous time it was asked, but in a more joking manner, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I'm also guessing CMs are limited with answers because of the community itself, as the community takes every word like it's set in stone, leaving no room for any kind of change without risking major negative feedback. I'm not at all surprised with the answers and it's not inconsistent with other game developers either, at least here we get to communicate with CMs even so many years after release.
Best thing for the CMs is to just give out a list of questions that they can answer.I like the idea in principle, but if they can't say anything meaningful, then i'd argue it does cause harm. At best, it was a big fat nothingburger.
You might have known it was coming in December, if asked I would have guessed that but would not have been certain.I thought I'd give them an easy one to answer, I asked "What can you tell us about Dev Diary 3? Any date yet?"
And Bruce replied "It's coming this December!"
I mean, I could not have given them an easier question to answer, and they didn't even give us anything on that. We know it's coming in December, they had a chance there to throw us something to keep us hyped while waiting, and Bruce went with "it's coming in December"
I don't see how I could have asked it any better, it's not like I asked something knowing full well they couldn't answer it. I even worded it in a way that gave them freedom to give us something.
Ask that at the next AMA, maybe. Then what is the point of doing an AMA if they can't say anything?
Ask that at the next AMA, maybe.
More like a [REDACTED]I'm sure we'd just get a PR response.
Raxxla is a rumour of a myth currently and fascinating because of that saying anything definitive about it destroys that.Writers are not allowed because they are not FD. CMs can if management allow it, and would hope they could at least confirm its in game and reachable.
"That's a good question, I'll find out."I'm sure we'd just get a PR response.
They never said they would answer everything though. Then again, there is little point in doing an AMA. The second A does stand for "anything".
Perhaps they should try focused Q&As on topics they know they can give answers to.
