Newcomer / Intro D8veh - misssing in action?

CGs are back and being evaluated to find out how much Fleet Carriers affect them.
Well, like every other part of the game that requires hauling a ridiculous amounts of commodities, I think "A lot" is a safe bet.
You are unlikely to break top 75% without one. At least I didn't. And I hauled quite a bit.

Just like people in a cutter will beat people in a hauler. Rares CGs have a different dynamic, but of course a carrier still helps, just not as much.

I am sad to hear d8veh has had health problems, but glad about his recovery. Best wishes!

Triple Elite, Triple Triple Elite and I've lost count probably Triple, Triple, Triple Elite - Is that enough Triples ed?* A source of sage wisdom and great patience with new and old Cmdrs. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. We'll not doubt need you when Odyssey lands. Hope to see you here again soon.

Thanks everybody. I'm getting better every day and I'm now able to do all the things I want/need to as long as i don't push too hard. It wasn't the virus, though that's what I thought I had at first. Instead, it was that the blood flowing through my lungs got blocked by blood clots for reasons unknown. I expect to become active in the game and on the forum in a couple of months. The reason for the delay is that I have to move house and have a lot of sorting out to do. My PC and the stuff with it all needs sorting out, so rather than do it twice, I'll wait until after the move.

👍 Glad to hear know you'll be back around👍

You missed Talk like a pirate day, so I imagine you'll have a lot of Yaaaaar'ing to do here.

Good to hear from you! Sounds like you got hit by a really nasty illness. Take your time to get well. Your real-life health is more valuable than Void Opals or newbie questions.

Welcome back! @d8veh ! Nice to have you back with us. o7
I'm not playing yet because my PC isn't setup, just trying to get into the swing of what's going on after my 6 month break. I'll be moving house in a couple of weeks, so lots of disruption at the moment. I'm thinking about making a temporary solution with my old PC and my X52, which I still have. I used it last year like that when I went to stay with my sister for Xmas. Maybe I can use the time to get my fleet carrier and try and figure out how it works.

Are there any good videos or other instructions that show all the mechanics, etc.? I've watched a few vids, but they were all from the time when fleet carriers were launched and they all showed the same things, basically what a fleet carrier is, without any details on how everything works.

I got off the fence and bought a carrier a little while ago so I may be able to help if you have anythgin specific to ask.

Some basics:
  • A carrier comes with 500 tons of tritium, that being the fuel you need. You can mine tritium to place in the tritium depot and/or "hold" of the carrier.
  • It's quicker and easier to buy tritium but it's been made a little more difficult getting a decent profit as FDev have beaten the mining profits with the nerf stick.
  • You can buy various "modulles" to fit to your carrier - e.g. cartographics, repair/rearm/replenish, shipyard etc. Each module costs a lot of money and adds to the upkeep cost of the carrier.
  • The carrier has an upkeep cost that gets taken from your "budget" each week
  • Yo can add/remove funds to/from your "budget" and that gets credited/debied from your overall credit balance.
  • A carrier can jump up to 500lys in one hop
  • You can store your entire fleet on one - up to 40 ships anyway.
  • All modules take up space in your overall capacity - 25,000 tones I think. This capacity also counts stored commodities and ship modules (if you've fitted the outfitting carrier service)

That's just off the top of my head, so ask away!

Oh! And welcome back! @@@07

OK, I've had 4 cups. Now it's making sense. I do recall him being very active here. Somehow he has been silenced (hope he's OK) and I blame Oprah!
Makes you wonder what became of him? Maybe he stopped participating? Maybe he stopped playing altogether? Maybe something bad happened in his life?

There's also another gentleman, who shall remain nameless, who was just as active in the newcomer board who now avoids it due to the fact that a certain member dissed him (publicly) in one of those childish attempts to discredit him while inflating his own ego and superiority.
This one active member was one of the biggest helps for me when I first started playing. He is however still active on other boards.
Maybe d8veh experienced something similar and decided that it's simply better to not participate at all?
Who's to know?

Now we know that D8veh is sick, but is getting better. I was glad to read that.

But I know exactly what you mean. The forum can be very toxic at times. Personally I have left debates or the forum entirely on several occasions because of it.

When I was younger I would have fought to the bitter end no matter what - and suffered because of it. I remember how a negative debate could engulf me, but I wouldn’t budge if I knew I was right. I just don’t have the energy for it anymore, and I have a depression too so now I have to protect myself and try to avoid negative situations as much as possible. I also have a wife now - and I prefer to give her attention instead of ugly, lengthy debates.

I know it can be considered a sign of weakness to leave a debate that is starting to turn ugly, and perhaps it is, but so be it. That’s just how things are now.

@Factabulous put together a FC FAQ thread which is stickied (pinned) in the DD cesspit, that might be of some utility:
