Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Well, to give further context, this is a Tevarin ship. The Tevarin people are bird like and somehow have a culture like Imperial Japan.

Now, the Japanese also didn't tend to back down from fight. Loss of honour and all though. And they were quite well known for fighting to the death and suicidal attacks. An escape pod really doesn't fit the Tevarin.

My guess is that Chris said, i want an escape pod on that thing. So they had to scramble to add it, at least in lore, even if it doesn't actually work.

Well since it is a Human replication/copy, the could have gone with
"And we have replaced the Shofixti Tevarin Glory Device with a Escape Pod for our Human Pilots"

In fact that idea is quite old in real life. First fully rocket powered plane made late 1930's in Germany had that idea. Plane had high pressure pneumatic system separating whole cockpit from plane hull, then parachute for whole cocpit assembly to slow it down to safe evacuation velocity. After which pilot evacuates himself and comes down with his individual parachute.

After which pilot evacuates himself
I’ll bet they did.

Nice post and good points.
For me the model to follow is Planetside 1 (PS2 is less fun for me). It's a goal that can be achieved in a less extent by CIG.
The balance air-air, ground-ground and air-ground was pretty effective and the game was fun for lone warriors, small squads and huge battles. I've never found in any game the feeling of the bridge battles of PS1 (or PS2) where you start the battle at 2vs2 to finish at hundreds.
When you are part of operations like this ones, it's a great feeling

I don’t reckon CIG should use PS as a template, purely in the sense that Server Meshing is a huge long shot (and 'fidelity' has never been compromised along the way to make it more feasible). They’ll most likely never achieve those types of player numbers.

Fun as those scenarios are, I don’t think SC can pitch for that. (Or are ultimately aiming to in many ways, given they acknowledge that the 'meshed 1000s' still couldn’t share the same geography.)

Honestly they should just accept simple discrete instances as the end game now, IMO. And actually build some gameplay around that ;)

Yes...they should but they can't...otherwise how they will justify existence and purpose of the huge multicrew ships they selling if you have instance where you can barely fit 20-30 players or let's be generous and said even 50 players? No that will never happened and instead CIG will continue to lie and talks about gran-scale multi-crew ships battles with hundreds&thousands of players meanwhile secretly hoping that will somehow discover the solution in the future tech most likely their magical server-meshing....and look that ain't impossible task(exist in some other games that still develop tech) and it is certainly something from the future but when and how it's going to work I am 100% positive that NOONE at CIG knows.......

Funny read, especially the part from people saying how once they upgraded their computer to very high specs things got a lot better. That's not really a good advertisement for the game.
It's also a lie... unless they were trying to run SC on a toaster. An i9 system with an RTX 3090 gets exactly the same frame rates as I do...45-55fps at best, 10-25fps at places like Lorville, Area 18 or New Babbage :)

Yup my dear Mole - this has been proven time and time again. The more "enthusiastic" backers who state otherwise always seem unable to post system specs, in-game FPS counters, or when they do show off silky smooth framerates - any more players than their buddy on the same LAN with the rest of the 'Verse blocked off.

This isn't something CI-G are going to be able to fix any time soon. It's an entire architectural rewrite.

A metaphor for SC's development?

Correct... and apologies. That's just me looking at their codebase, trying to make sense of their 64 bit positioning and physics engine.

well, i did buy a 3090, but gonna have to RMA it. If I'm able to get another one i'll let you know. 🍻

I'm getting the same...16k-8 error when trying to log in :cautious:

Edit: Got in eventually after I deleted my user folder, transferred my profile folder with my HOTAS and key binds over from the PTU folder to save redoing them all. I like this little Nomad thing..handy for scooting about with the Roc in the back, found out it's a hovercraft. No landing gear by design rather than a bug...the Mercury Star Runner is nice...but functionless... except for use as a poor man's cargo ship (114 SCU)...or you can stick a Roc in the back of it too and go mining. Like most of the ships in SC...needs a better QT drive fitted to be of any use.

I upgraded a couple of useless concept jpegs I had sitting in one of my game packages for an age to get the both of them...since they're at least flyable. Total contribution to CiG for this transaction...$0.00 since I used spare store credit for the $30 or so I needed for the upgrade.

I'm guessing the escape pods aren't actually implemented yet anyway. I'll be suitable amazed if they are.

Reminds me of an episode of Deep Space 9 when the Starfleet....um fleet, was destroyed and they all launched in escape pods. The enemy ships all sat there looking at them and the leader of the enemy said in an awed voice "look at all those escape pods". The alien in charge of weapons asked "shall I order them destroyed sir?" The Admiral replied.." no, let them go." Of course the ended up losing the war in the end, but what if they had destroyed all the escape pods?
