Ships Cobra Mk IV Owners Club

Only if you get the high wake started. Mass lock will not CANCEL a high wake.

I fly slow ships a lot but if you are mass locked you can't even start up your FSD. Had it happen many many times.

Edit: Now you got me thinking though so I'm gonna have to go and check it more specifically for this.
What you describe is being hardlocked by a station or any other really large body. That's when the little yellow masslock blip on your HUD turns on. That prevents any and all FSD operation. Ship masslock does not.

I'll have to get my Cobra IV out and see this again but it has been a long while since I bothered to try and high wake from any NPC so I may be mistaken.
I'll report my findings if/when I get around to it :)

I'm now using my Python for my former Cobra 4 missions. Something about being beaten up...Imperial Clippers and Anacondas run away from me in the Python. A-rated everything, and engineered. I feel sad. I miss the days when my interdictors were more reasonable matches.

It has been quite fun, to read some of this.
I was a Beta Backer, that stopped playing back then, cos of the gankers, & a PC, that was not that up to it...
I started playing again, for the first time since the beta, last Xmas.

Been really enjoying the game, & am probably going to set up my Cobra IV as a miner.
I'm sort of hoping, there may be places with only small pads, when Beyond hits...
I am certain, FDev, would make sure that other small ships will be viable, for stuff.
But it would be quite nice, to have a ship that was just a "little" more versatile, than the others...

I've been playing since early beta days with small break every once in awhile but I only bought my Mk IV last year, mostly because so many people complaining about this ship being so exclusive. I ended up making multirole mission runner out of it, here it is https://s.orbis.zone/8deE. My primary everyday ship is a Cutter but I like this Mk IV and every so often I use it just for fun. Can't say whether it is better or worse than Mk III, it's just different.

It is quite sad that some people think, they can give so much grief to Frontier for giving early backers, something exclusive, but not amazing...
Of course they never even consider why this occurred...
Back then Frontier did not have that much backing, & the game was not that big.
They needed the cash, so this sort of thing was meant to be something nice to be able to have...

Back when I backed the beta, I had no idea whether the game would be a success?
I took my chances, & 5 years later my gamble paid off...
(Very glad I missed the previous engineering system...)

Then of course, someone buys the game for £5 on a Steam sale...
Then straight away starts screaming about not being able to get a Cobra IV...

I'm not a backer, sadly, as the SC kickstarter blinded me back then and ED kickstarter flew under my radar, but I am a mercenary edition buyer and (expensive) LEP holder. And I say, give them the Cobra IV. Heck, they might buy a paintjob for it, already doubling the investment.

I must have misunderstood the history then.
I thought:
1) The Cobra MkIV was initially ONLY offered as a pre-order bonus for players who pre-ordered the Horizon update on PC Prior to it’s launch Dec 2015.
2) The deal was then extended to Mar 2016 to drive further Horizon sales. offer withdrawn Mar 2016.
3) Horizons announced to be launched on Xbox June 2016 without Cobra MkIV.
4) Xbox players complained (possibly claiming their moral rights....)
5) Frontier opened up the Cobra MkIV offering for three months on Xbox (Jun - Sep 2016) for those buying the Horizons update.
6) Dec 2016 - Elite (Base game & Horizons update) announced for PS4 - Frontier was asked if PS4 commanders would get the Cobra MkI.
7) July 2017 - Elite launched on PS4. The ‘early backers’ got a sidewinder paint job.
8) Campaigning ever since.
9) Early backers complained at Frontier eXpo 2017 that all the good stuff that was promised them hadn’t materialised. Frontier rolled out the Cobra MkIV to all Lifetime Extension Packers (most of which would have already had Horizons but it was squaring the circle.)

What I don’t understand is why it matters to any player, FOUR years after it was sold as a pre-order bonus, (before the Beyond update, before the Thargoids, before the Fleet Carrier update) that it can’t be made available to either those who pre-ordered Horizons on the PS4 or more fairly, any player with Horizons.

You can’t buy a Kraft without Horizons, you can’t buy a Chieftain without Horizons etc - why not add the Cobra MkIV into that same bucket?

Perhaps because some people are jealous. Plain and simple, no strings attached. Lol

... a lot. ;)

The actual wording* (from David Braben) about the Cobra Mk IV was: "The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year..." - so nothing to do with "pre-orders". (Yes they expanded that a bit.)

The LEP is exactly that - lifetime pass entitled to all expansions - so all LEP had access to Horizons and so had access to the Cm4 already and didn't need it to be "rolled out" to them (us).

PS4 players were undoubtedly hard-done-by and I have no idea why F D deemed them to not have access to the Cm4.

Really arguing over a moot point but in qualifying as a player who joined in the first year, you would need to be pre-ordering Horizons. Elite on PC was officially released December 2015. Horizons was officially released Dec 2016 - one year later.
if it had stayed at just for PC players who had bought the game in year one there might be a bit of logic to the stance but then providing a Cobra MkIV to an Xbox commander six months later shows that the demarcation line could be fluid if required.

Maybe they realised they were sailing a bit close to the wind and decided to reign it in.

At the time, F.D. offered an incentive/reward from P.C. players, to invest in the game. It was offered as an 'exclusive'; for those P.C. players and it still is. I am not 100% on the Xbox 'offer', but I would say that for an investment again, they offered the same deal. Now at that time, there was no cross platform game play, on the table. At the time of the PS launch, cross platform play, was becoming an option, which is why, I guess, they did not make the Cobra exclusive, an option.

Personally: An exclusive item, especially one paid extra for; should remain as such. However. I feel that the PS players, should have been offered the same deal, as the Xbox players got.

Here's my build if anyone is interested.

People bang on about how bad it is for combat, but it works quite well. If i'm getting pounded on by multiple ships, then it can be a bit hairy. It is a small ship after all. But its got a good hull and MRPs. I can stick on the rear end of an Anaconda and pound away without getting hit.

And i love the turrets and once the target's shield goes down, they are constantly getting hit with debuffs.
