Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It's been refactored because someone called Roberts tried to implement the tech by pluging this in the blades

The IBM Token Ring yeah, pre-ethernet even, studied it in college as part of the OS/Networking course a long time ago... I have no idea about the CIG thing though, it's just that the name immediately reminded me of the other one.

Somewhere there is a nice juicy video of Genuine Roberts beaming about how they've invented this shiny, never-been-done-before, revolutionary new system of getting "servers" to "talk to each other" by "passing a token between them when one has finished working, so the others can pick up where it left off"

You think they have misunderstood it and use it on the wrong stuff ?
I think they're throwing terms around that Chris picked up in an in-flight trade magazine and now want to use in classical conversation. Even if — hell, doubly if — it is just obfuscating that they're doing something very simple and very standard but Chris hadn't heard of it before he read about it two weeks ago.

Like above, raymarching: checking things in intervals.
Or SDF: figuring out the nearest distance to a shape.

It's just fancy talk for the sake of sounding fancy, not actually doing anything special or complicated.

Keep dreaming sucker!

A dreamer starts to realize the more CIG actually implement, the less it looks like what was promised over the years

I realize that CIG is having a really fun time modeling how wind will affect fire so that they don't have to do a quick and easy approximation that will work as well for basically everyone, but...

I'd really love to see a medical play with items and animations to apply bandages or clean wounds instead of just a heal beam.
I'd really like to see cargo moving with hand trucks, forklifts, and cool Aliens-style loaders instead of just a move beam (not that I oppose ship tractor beams, I don't... but what's wrong with manipulator arms).
I'd like to see more options to grapple with and without weapons... for example, I'd like to be able to hold someone still with one hand while putting a gun to them.
I'd like to see vehicle play sorted out. There's certainly the budget to build a small racing/trucking game within SC (also: wheel/pedal support?)
I'd like to see a team dedicated to just slowly adding more and more custom content. I'd love to see even a fraction of the "smaller places", like cities, flesh out into their own play-worlds (GTA, Witcher, etc).. it would make the rest of the universe feel so much larger.
I'd like to see the most customizeable avatar creator ever... or at least an average one. I'd like to be able to be left handed. I'd like to be able to have facial hair. I'd like to be able to get tattoos and scars.
Speaking of, there was talk of the ability for players to create and submit/upload ships back in kickstarter. I'm doubtful that will happen in the PU; but what about clothing, tattoos, paint jobs? Opening that up starts giving you a lot of content... hrm... perhaps this needs its own post.

Some poor backer is having trouble with the ROC for mining and asks for help. And just look at the hoops people are recommending they jump through.

Step one: Don’t park your Cutlass on a landing pad when spawning your ROC at a surface depot. It is very likely to disappear when you spawn your ROC. Instead, park it ~50m away from the small blue pads.

Step Two: back the ROC into the cargo bay slowly, using the 3rd person camera (F4). Carefully turn it somewhat towards the open space opposite the door to the cockpit, this will allow you to walk around it without issue. Be sure not to back so far in that you’re clipping through the wall of the cargo bay.

Step Three: press U to completely shutdown power to the ROC. It doesn’t appear to be necessary to close the ROC after exiting (as I’ve seen often recommended for loading it onto a Nomad.) At this point, you’re flight ready.

I would recommend mining on Ariel (don’t forget your Pembroke suit and some water!), flying just above atmo (~15km altitude) at full speed for about a minute, this puts you a solid 50km or more from the location which any potential griefers will be QTing to. Once near the surface again, fly at SCM speed or slower, less than 1km from the surface while scanning for nodes. Set your own standards, but I’ll share mine. I only bother to mine a location if it has 5 or more Hadanite nodes, this limits each trip to a max of four stops before selling. (You can unload the ROC’s inventory by interacting with the back of the vehicle while it’s parked on the cargo grid in your ship, but I don’t bother because the potential loss of time invested, should you be hit by a 30k or what not.)

Step four: land in a clear, flat area near the nodes, use I to shutdown your engines. Open the ramp, and then hop into the ROC.

Step five: THIS IS CRITICAL. Be prepared to press M to extend the mining arm THE MOMENT YOU TURN ON THE ROC, as the arm will almost certainly glitch straight up through the roof of the Cutty, causing the ROC to begin rolling inside the ship. If you let it get away from you, there’s nothing to be done. You’ll likely lose both vehicles, and your trip is over. The ROC will often try to punch the ceiling randomly during entry/exit of the ship, always be prepared to counter with M.

Step six: carefully disembark with the ROC, and go get some pay dirt. M to extend the arm, G to aim with the mouse. LMB toggles the laser, scroll wheel to increase/decrease power, RMB to toggle fracture/collection modes. Sometimes the ROC likes to squirm, holding A or D will calm her down.

While mining Hadanite, generally start at 85% or greater power to the laser. Once you reach the node’s sweet spot, simply aim the laser away from it to prevent over heating, make a quick adjustment to the power level, and throw some more heat at the node when needed. The sweet spot for laser power tends to be ~10% higher than the sweet spot of the node. You can continue to rake the laser across it and away again to maintain the perfect temp. If it ever drops below the sweet spot, it will likely take a boost in laser power to bring it back in line.

Step seven: well, that’s pretty much it, at this point it’s simply repeating the previous steps as necessary. Once she’s full to bursting with sweet, Hadanite goodness, QT back to the depot to sell.

Have fun, don’t let the bugs get you down!

And a citizen wants CIG to continue to do what they are doing! CIG really should listen to people like this! Its the way we keep the lulz going for years yet.

You are so deep in your own little world that you twist it to be true. Reasoning: You think it is true, you have deemed it true; hence it must be true.

That we just simply see it differently is not in your level of understanding.

We all know very well that the original plans were ditched and we are very happy that CR did that. I sure as hell don't want that mediocre small probably forgettable game that was pitched back in the days of kickstarter just to have something faster.

Same true for all delayed features. I still want them as described. Not lessened due to getting them done "in time".

I give CIG more money because they are doing exactly what I expect them to do: And that is to put the vision and quality of the game over deadlines and forced and half baked releases. I want them to say "It's done when it's done!"

If CR were to cut corners and reduce the scope of this game just to get it out faster for impatient brats such as yourself I would stop giving money for development and would feel betrayed.

Now enter stage YOU and people like you.

In my perception you lack vision, lack trust, lack understanding of many things, are impatient, and, most importantly, are unable to accept that the dumb "truth" you have cocked up for yorself is not accepted by the vast majority.

And instead of questioning your perception you go the classic way of saying everyone else just does not see it right. "I and the few like me, we are the only ones smart enough to see the TRUTH!"

Do you know what other people say stuff like that?

  • Flat earthers
  • Conspericy theorists
  • Anti vaccers
So how about you prove to yourself that you are capable of a bit more perspective and at least try to think outside of the little box you have imprisioned yourself in?

Please?

Strange person... hasn't even bought a ship

On the other hand, at least the merch actually exists!

Merchandising made out of crowdfunding money vowed to be used for the sole purpose of making the game (and which is still due), not merchandising. Products sold to backers made with their own money, plus tax, twice. I mean, there is got to be something remotely wrong in there somewhere but I just can´t quite put my finger on it. I mean once you go in that direction might aswell put some of the backers money in an investment fund of some kind or say, build lamps, I don´t know.

Absolutely.
Fundamental flaw with these companies and crowdsourcing funds is that the money isn't held in trust, and issued when verifiable milestones are reached.
We're talking about over $300,000,000 USD reported in July, with zero accountability.
Hires wife, friends, whoever, takes free money, turns around and sells merchandise with the capital raised. And it's legal.
What a scam.

The mining tips for the Roc are spot on...that's the palaver you have to go through just to mine a few rocks these days...which is fine for those of us who have been playing SC long enough to find all this out, not so fine for someone relatively new....then there's the random, persistently recurring server 30k's to deal with which make all of those steps utterly pointless.

Now the refuelling once again doesn't work...after flying around mining for an hour, I went back to several ports and R&R stops attempting to refuel the ship...not happening once again despite them continually having to fix it in practically every patch since 3.2. How hard is it to keep the damned refuelling in game working so you don't have to blow up your own ship and reclaim it just to get some fuel?

Gave up and went back to playing as Eivor the Viking for the rest of the evening.

I've had an 890 Jump for a while, but never got a lot of use out of it, besides checking it out once in a while and randomly landing somewhere for a bit. Enter my almost 3yo son. He has been showing interest in space ships for a bit so I figured I show him some in Star Citizen. The last one I introduced as 'massive', 'huge', and 'lots of rooms'. That last part struck a cord and we explored the 890 Jump together to find all the rooms. Now, he begs me for looking at more rooms in the 890, he knows there is a kitchen, a steam room with coals and towels, a pool, his own bedroom, a bedroom for his grandparents, and he'll yell 'let's go to the bar!'. The latter thoroughly confused my wife when she overheard us...

So now I spend at least 15-20 minutes every day walking through the 890 Jump with my son, finding towels, soap, shampoo, bottles and bubbles in the aquariums. I feel like I'm slowly getting some of its value back now.
