What if small ships jumped the farthest?

I barely get the eagle faster then a Phantom, and slower then a Mamba in a non-lightweight outfit,
which is annoying and not balanced, considering the Eagle has 1/5th of the health pool and firepower of those.
My conflict zones eagle sits at 740-780 boost depending on weapons. It is also way more maneuverable than any medium ship. Pure numbers don't include your time on target vs. theirs - stay close and out of their line of fire. (Wings are a problem though, it is hard for me to use other ships as cover, unless a T9 is available. You also don't have the luxury to let go of the controls just to chat a bit, that has to wait until after the combat.)

Enhanced thrusters do need a light build, building a small ship the same way as a medium one will just lead to a ship that handles like a medium with less defenses and less firepower.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love if small ships got a bit more love, there are a few things they are seriously lacking (e.g. utility slots, I have 1 in the eagle, just a second one would do wonders), hardpoint choices (plasma anyone? quite a few PP weapons are medium+), they suffer from the lower piercing values of small weapons in addition to the lower damage output (further limiting outfitting choices), and could use a niche where they shine (since mediums can carry more, let smalls carry it quicker and safer from interdictions - increase SC acceleration and deceleration). I also wouldn't object to a small boost to speed to set them further apart from mediums (which beat some of the slower smalls easily)

And yes, I am biased, and partially flying the Eagle because I want a challenge - mostly because I just love flying it though.

I have long being fighting the C1 battle for small ships...

Everything you wrote + 1 million

Indeed, the Anaconda simply defies the laws of physics, something i wish FD would fix
All the ships defy physics, whether flying in normal-space magic treacle or impossible supercruise, so a little thing like mass needn't bother us. The Anaconda exists with the stats it has for gameplay and progression reasons.

We already have Enhanced Performance Thrusters class 2 and 3 for small ships. Now we just need Enhanced Performance FSD classes 2 to 4 to make smaller ships jump longer distances. I would welcome this to make small ships more tempting. If I could make my Cobra jump farther than my Krait Phantom, I would happily use it. Or even Sidewinder if it would exceed the others with jump range.

Back in FFE/FE2, military jump drives, which offered double jump range, but required military fuel which could not be scored scooped, were only accessible to smaller ships (as they only went up to class 3)... so smaller ships could have the larger jump range in most cases.

Personally I'd love to see military drives / other variants and non-scoopable fuels to be introduced via the fuel store, to give some more variance on in/ near bubble fittings.

It's a nice idea but military drives would be for bubble / Colonia folk as getting fuel in the black would be a non-starter. The FC farce has shown that...
It worked in previous iterations of the game because the game universe was much smaller... And the fuel could just be bought at stations.
ED has become too big for military drives now...

I dunno... faster than ship transfers and cheaper than an FC. I'd fit one if it halved the number of jumps between home and WHN/pleiades/coalsack/california/guardians

How about if you added a module for FC to allow them to supply Military Fuel - then you could get (towards) the fast travel that some crave outside the bubble - at least along defined routes (routes are something that some have been pining for from the early days). And it would give another reason for maybe even more of a player network of FCs 🤔

This....and take away from the Challenger the three size 4 Military slots, make them a 5 and two 4s,rework the hardpoints and we'll have the next best Medium multirole,a Python 2.0.

I don't mind the ananconda having the longest jump range, it is after all the most expensive ship, and manoeuver like a brick in supercruise. I use it for long distance travel, but will rely more on my phantom or DBx for exploration & tourism, they are much more fun to play with.

The Cutter and Corvette are more expensive than the Conda, and they're locked behind a rep grind wall.

Yeah, truth be told if Anaconda had its jump rate nerfed below Krait Phantom the only reason to actually use it as an exploration ship would be niche use for the SLF.

Poor cockpit view and SC brickery would be combined with inferior jump range.

Easily done through Galnet.
"Due to many reported hull failures which resulted in several death cases, Faulcon deLacy hereby informs all Anaconda owners that their ships will be fitted with additional plates for maximum safety, free of charge!"

There, you'd have much heavier Conda after Thursday tick.
FDev?

"This will be done remotely so that even if you are out near Beagle Point we will magically upgrade your hull plating and trap you in system you don't have the jump range to get away from"

Technically not true, the Argent's Quest(Turner class ship) was a large ship with a class 4 military drive. :p
