ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey HUD Breakdown

I WOULD pre-order if logging in was working on the site....just keeps asking me to log in, then log in...then log in...

Update : had to change browser and it then worked.

...interact with NPCs shoot NPCs in their faces, and more!

Given NPCs will supposedly approach and initiate conversations, I wonder what the dialogue interface may look like...
There has been talk of voice acting, so I suppose templates will be voiced, minus mailmerged names.

Maybe they have dug up aspects of the UI paradigm from that old patent application with figures based on imagery from the Outsider..(?)

EDIT: I guess we see an: "I'm interactive" marker overlay around the round display inside that circular lock, in the second shot.

I’m a lifetime expansion pass holder – will I receive Odyssey free of any additional charge?
Yes.

Hey Paul, really appreciate the post and the breakdown of how the UI is going to look - a more detailed peek to go alongside the teaser trailer.
Very appreciated.

My question to you that I hope you can clarify either way - will LTE holders also get access to the Alpha? :)

The lighting, weapon models, and environment look great. At first glance the hud feels disjointed and somewhat tacked on. The ammo display for instance seems intended to be one size fits all. Having the ammo display integrated into the weapon model with rounds remaining and reloads remaining shown with graphical icons rather than numbers. What matters is not that i have exactly 10 or 15 rounds left, but rather if i need to reload soon. (with modern fps reload mechanics is anyone really waiting for the last round to be spent to reload?) To know this i need to easily see roughly what percent of the mag is used.

The gui elements seem rather spread out, and the compass seems way too large. Shrinking the compass (or integrating it with the mini map ) to make room for the health indicator at the top would be nice.

Some of the text seems overly small.

Mixing pseudo curved and non curved projections for various gui items rarely looks good.

There does not seem to be health/ammo info integrated into the reticle. This would be a nice to have considering how spread out the info/gui is at present.

It would be interesting to see how comms are handled. Is it going to be audio only with yes/no (or similar) responses via hotkey?

Is the whole on foot experience(not just combat) only in first person or will we be able to play non combat stuff in third person please please please say it's so, first person sucks for other game modes

Aww c'mon. I have so much to do in my other MMOs right now, then you have to release something that will take me away from it all. I've just started Shadowlands in Warcraft.

My wife may hate you when that list of chores just sits there gathering dust next year. Her birthday is in March, send her something nice to say sorry for stealing me away from her ;) lol.

How will sound be handled when switching from VR to flat-screen? I play in VR with the sound coming out of the headset but if I take the headset off to play on foot, will the sound be redirected to my speakers and then back to the headset when transitioning back into the cockpit?

Looking really good to me. Welcoming NPCs and walking to make the bubble feel actually inhabited, updated graphics and some new gameplay, all great.

UI Designer/Producer question on HUD, why did FD decide the HUD should depart so much from current ship HUD? The "radar" is not 3D like in the ship, so will on-foot characters all be in 2D space? What about eventual EVA at some point in the future (Check out Boundary and other EVA space combat games where 3D positioning matters).

EXCELLENT post Paul - thanks to you and the community team for this and the Odyssey gameplay trailer. It's a good week to be a CMDR!
