Things you noticed in the gameplay trailer that others may have missed.

Im not a fan of this in FPS, it removes the element of stealth as everyone is on the radar.
It is generally used in the more arcade style FPS games. Not something I expected from Elite.

Show your wing/squad is fine, showing enemy and neutrals not fine.
It ruins the game play imo.

I know what you mean. We will need to see, it may be limited or suit-specific.

I foresee FD's biggest development effort ever for ED being spent on shoe horning FPS gameplay into it, the depth and variety of which will never compete with the multitude of FPS titles already available.

I see most CMDRs not being particularly interested in FPS ED, as they bought it as a space flight and exploration game, and once the novelty has warn off with it, and the countless balancing and shallow mechanics and exploits drag on, most CMDRs will rarely use it. CQC or Multicrew part deux if you will.

Many CMDRs will consider if only all that huge development time - the biggest ever for ED - had instead been invested in the core gameplay and core content depth of space flight and exploration...

/my take

Nah.

I never really saw the game as a flight simulator type thing and always as more of a Han Solo simulator. And Han Solo gets out of his ship occasionally.

The only reason the original game didn't have on-foot bits is because you can't do people with 20 polygons.

If there is radar in FPS, then also gonna be a way to be not visible at it, of course with some drawbacks.

Some kind of uav jammer, or suit type upgrade or even entire suit that is not visible at radar(unless shooting) but weak shields, less dmg resistance etc.. tons of options.

Almost every decent FPS game have such mechanics, and I doubt that in odyssey fdevs might not include something similar.

Odyssey looks stunningly good in general, and I'm prepared to believe there's gameplay in there and not just scripted in-engine footage. However, I would love FD to post the graphical specs of the machines they use to create these trailers.

...and I'd also like to know if they're going to show us what this all looks like on a base PS4 or XBone any time soon.

You find something lying on the floor.

Yep, either gonna be bulid-in feature in some suits that have its own cooldown, or limited per use, by using suit power supply per use or kinda like stim-packs or granades that can be replenish by looting dead bodies, or found at random places like boxes, floor.... Other option is also synthesis, wich also might get it own "in-foot" things.

Cant w8 to see how actually it will be...

I noticed on the UI there was no chatbox - how do we communicate lol?
There's what looks like an icon for unread messages in the bottom left so presumably you can still pop up a comms window from there.

I would have been more surprised if these fancy suits didn't have sensors to pick up on things like heat/energy signatures. I fully expect that there will be stealth options, though.

Shooting each other silly
Killing is just a means of communicatioooooooooon....
oh wait wrogn spess game :p

Well it said something about position AND direction of the enemy and only one thing on those blips has direction which may suggest that either theyre is different scope of detection by the device or that dots are not active hostiles.

Anyway the point I was trying to make that this radar may only be marking enemies you have actually in line of sigh - alot of games are doing that. In which case the element of stealth is to manipulate line of sights to not be detected untill you get a proper drop onto the guy you are sneaking up to.

That being said they may just reuse the ship sensors mechanics in here - your suit radar would have standard emission range attribute and enemy could manipulate how much "emission" he is doing and on cross referencing math game would determine how close he can get to you before he starts showing up on radar. Just a speculations tho, I have just as little of material to go on from as You do :/

If you look at stuff from 2.0.x you can see how the texture quality was worse, but a lot of small details were actual geometry, which I thought looked much better, overall (though it also ran rather slow at the time).

Yep that is optimization for ya'll. Removing actual detail and hoping nobody notice 😁

It was hard to complain too much at the time, given that it increased frame rates by 30-50%, but then five years and three video card upgrades later I was really missing that geometry...and really getting sick of bad checkerboarding terrain textures.

I like the reactive animations to being shot. There was a part where a guy appeared to be walking backwards, firing a rifle one-handed (a pirate?) while reacting to being shot on various parts of his torso. All worked very naturally from an animation perspective. I wasn't expecting this level of detail and finesse in first person shooter mechanics from a company like FD honestly.

Yeah, I think it was Buur's video pointed that out, looks interesting, stunning the opponent.

Username doesn't check out 😂

Yeah, I get you. In fairness though, we have an even more detailed radar in our ships, and stealth (of a sort) still exists there.

We also don't really know what it shows yet. If you look at CQC, for example, the radar and HUD targeting only work more-or-less within line of sight. So the capability of limiting it in some way has always been there.

I agree it would be slightly disappointing if the radar is like an "all seeing eye", but if it only -- for example -- shows uncloaked targets within line of sight, and loud/high-energy targets beyond line of sight (like the approximate position of someone firing a machinegun behind a wall), and maybe having it switched on increases your own signature... it could be a useful tool with strengths and drawbacks rather than a form of X-ray vision.

We'll just need to wait and see.

We have very limited info right now, but I would expect there are similar systems to silent running. Where a suit's functions can be cooled for a period to allow stealthy gameplay. In fact didn't FD say that sneaking around a base stealing stuff would be one of the expansion activities?

I really hope you are all correct and that it is more than simply show everyone within X range.
Some form of silent running would be great unless its rendered almost useless by Night Vision as ships are ingame.

As everyone else I will wait and see, I just have a bad feeling about it, as it has spoilt so many FPS games in the past for me.
In the FPS games I have played were they have 3rd as an option or enemies on radar option. I have always played on the servers which remove those options, as I prefer that style of stealth or actually need to see/find the enemy type of game play. Sadly in Elite though, there is no hardcore mode or servers you can swap to.

I hope its not what I think it is, I really do !
Fingers Crossed :)
