Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Literally no one talks about Discovery. It's dead, Jim.

Though I say that as a complete hypocrite who loves the characters from JJ Abrams' non-canon films.

Mum has actually bought me two of their Kirk and Spock action figures for Christmas.
I found Discovery patchy, some of it was quite good SF, some of it was quite good Star Trek and overall I liked it but could totally see why it would upset Star Trek purists. I was hoping season 1 would tie in with the book The Final Reflection.

The thing with Discovery - and Picard, actually - is that they used the "F" word. In Star Trek. Swearing! Gasp. The horror! :D

It looks like Lave is suffering from pirate attacks so I'm jumping my fleet there to see if there's anything I can do. Lave has a special place in my memory as, like a lot of us, it's where our CMDR's career started, many years ago. Time to help the old gaff out.

My wife and I love Discovery. And loved the crossover with original Kirk Trek. So there are two people talking about it (and we have watched all the series, films etc.)

I hate it when my hyperbolic arguments are defeated on the internet.

Good for you and your wife though, Simon. I won't begrudge anyone taking enjoying in rubbish things. I like lots of garbage movies etc.

Ech. Not impressed today.
20 pirate/Lord drubbing missions. Usually not an issue.
Except: Every RES, Nav Beacon USS or interdiction instance, the radar colours are changing. Cops turning red, SLF is orange, pirates turning green. I don't mind the occasional glitch in CZs, but meh. When you're in a furball with 8 pirates and 'undercover' cops... Nah.
Just realised, I was in a Haz with cops?

Controls playing up now.
Time for a relog.

Edit: On a better note, I've had a play about with the in game volume settings to boost the music, well worth doing.

Lave needs help. I'm going to stay a while. Transferred the Mamba to Lave Station to aid with the pirate infection.

EDIT

Interestingly, Lave 2 has a red circle around it in the sysmap. Hmm...

I still maintain ED has the best sound I've heard in a game.
Elite definitely has a great sound mix. Part of the reason I randomly jump in and travel around for a little while is because I enjoy how it sounds.

Not that anyone cares, but I turn all music off in all games. I hate it, doesn't matter what it sounds like, I just hate having music playing. :)
Is there something wrong with you? Mentally, I mean?

Er... wow.

And it sounds even better in "night mode" (or whatever it's called in the menu). I turned it on one night (I'm a graveyarder, so I'm only up at those hours) so I wouldn't have to wear my ear mitts and still not wake the family up, and it blew my mind. Try it if you haven't already, then land at a Tharg or Guardian site. For added effect, DO put your ear mitts on.

I keep saying this: The "Best Sound in Video Games" award should just be renamed "Best Sound in Video Games that Aren't ED", so's to avoid having to award it to the same team every year. :)

I've heard of night mode but I don't know what it does or where to find it. I fly with my headlamps on full blast.

And hey, MishaTX. I've seen you on my friends list or in a squad somewhere. :fistbump:

It amplifies all of those subtle sounds that normally get drowned out by, say, your engines and such. Like, say, the ambient sound effects at Guardian and Tharg sites, the blips and beeps of probes etc. etc.

:fistbump: right back atcha. My squad's in my sig, and if you wanna hit the friend request, my CMDR name is in the sig too :)

Interesting. I wear cans using the PC... I'll see how night mode affects them next time I'm on.
Try it. But make sure you're doing something "quiet" to get a true comparison when you do. The atmospherics are just miles apart with that one. Not to mention that I can actually HEAR beacons now. And the mitts only make it more pronounced.

I can't find the key for it but it does sound a lot like turning off life support and hearing yourself breathe.

I must've confused you for a different Misha, Tucker, but I've added you in the game.

It's in the sound settings on the main menu, I forget exactly where, but there are different modes. Worth a try, anyway. You can change it without restart, so if you don't like it, it's as easy as hitting escape. :)

It'll be a few days (work and all that) before I'll be back flying, but I'll accept as soon as I get there. Always good to have another CMDR on your list (I'm in Colonia now, though, so I'm a bit off the beaten path. It's nice out here, though. No PP politics, just us independent types ;) )

Yeah, it's always good to have allies.

And thanks for the tip on the other thing. I can't be bothered to load it up again.
