Roadmap this week boys!

I had some issues with framerates for the first 10 minutes that I played the new patch, after that everything was smooth again. Gtx 1080 with 7700k overclocked to 5 GHz, 32Mb ram on a sata ssd

Never let it be said that CIG never gets any praise around here; that's some pretty impressive optimisation.

A new CIG roadmap always brings such joys, and resets the cycle:
  • renewed optimism of how soon important tech/features/gameplay will arrive
  • "once these pipelines are in place new content will flood in"
  • arguments about prior scheduling failings and whether CIG have learned from them
  • various stages of grief when delays and pushbacks occur again
  • complaining that the roadmaps are inaccurate and should be scrapped
  • a new roadmap design is planned "the best one yet"
  • "Squadron 42 is probably next year"

OA has been doing sponsored videos for years now, including games, hardware, and previous Tobii Eyetracker models.

That doesn't mean i should like it, and to be honest, this is the first time i've noticed it. Perhaps because normally i usually only watch his ED content, and i've never seen any videos where he's been sponsored by FD. And the day he is sponsored by FD, i'll stop trusting him as a source of impartial information about ED.

I know he has to pay the bills but he built his reputation (at least in my eyes) on his reporting style, carefully separating opinion from fact. Once things are paid for, I can no longer trust his opinion to not be influenced by $$$ even when he is doing a video that is not sponsored. Always at the back of his mind will be "Can't be too critical of X. They won't sponsor me again if i am"

Its the usual disconnect between the actual state of the game and CIG's marketing of it. In their search for more money they will harm their own reputation and increase the number of skeptics. People will see this, think it looks cool, try it, be dissapointed, and when they raise their concerns on the forums will be told ITS ALPHA! and "you should have done your research"

Also, some of those comments....

Yeah maybe it's time for a RAM upgrade. I think my computer is around 3. Only 16GB of ram at the moment.

Only 16 GB of ram!!! Wow, what a peasant!

Nothing you said makes sense. Please take your pessimistic rubbish somewhere else. How many Star Citizens are there? Exactly. Everything about this game is exponentially more ambitious than any game before it. Everything from the macro to micro detail. You saw how long it takes to develop even a single player game with the recently-released Cyberpunk, and had been in development for a very long time too.
I'm as much a "fan" of SC as I am any other game I play. Extremely weird that you would attempt to belittle someone over something they enjoy. You're either a child or a psychopath.

Exponentially more ambitious than any game before it!!!! Also not a fanboy! Honest!

Woo hoo! Only took them a year as a high priority task!

What do you think? 50/50 it will be delayed for reasons?

Very interested in looking forward to seeing it. I bet it won't give any clue as to when SC or SQ42 will likely to release.

He's been more than critical about Star Citizen yet Tobii (and CIG indirectly no doubt) were happy to sponsor him to cover the EyeTracker 5 in Star Citizen Alpha 3.12.

Companies have sent him products to cover in sponsored videos but if he found them to be rubbish he simply hasn't done the sponsored content.

Oh my, loving the comments from people defending the video. Apparently its perfectly ok to mislead people and build up expectations because if they decide to buy the game then they are told that its alpha.

Do they not consider that people might watch the video, be told that its alpha, and think "Wow, if this is how it looks in alpha its gotta be amazing!"

There are games out there that are/were playable in alpha/early access. The terms are often badly abused. Some people will have experienced these.

Pretty sure many will approach thinking they will get a good experience despite it being in alpha, only to be dissapointed.

Which does not affect my opinion on the matter. The day i see he is being sponsored by FD is the day i stop trusting his opinion of ED, even though i know he has been a big fan from the start, even though he built his youtube channel based on ED.

Their priority with the new roadmap will be to give a false impression of progress (to both backers and investors), while absolutely not committing to any sort of timeline. It will be very interesting to see what they've come up with.

There's always the "offices are closed for the holidays" excuse to buy themselves a couple more weeks. Followed by "we're just getting back up to speed after the holidays", "new roadmap wasn't up to Chris's high standards", "the scope of the roadmap has increased", and then "look over there! new concept jpeg sale!"

I think 100/0 that it will not actually be a real roadmap and ±ε that that it will fail to delineate what will be developed when, irrespective of what it actually maps out or lists.

There are only 2 more days in the week really.

I can't imagine they say this on monday, and aren't able to publish it this week.

But it is CIG, so........

I've only been an observer of CIG/SC shenanigans for about 4 years, but in that time they've changed the format of their roadmaps, communications and marketing so many times, it seems obvious they're obfuscating - making it difficult for backers to really know what's going on. Any company with demonstrably good results sticks to the format that maintains their success. They don't change like CIG does. It's classic behaviour for a particular type of business trying to hide their inadequacies and prey on the unsuspecting and delusional.

Really curious to read your analysis about this new roadmap when it will be online guys.

Normally I'd be glad to, but since I expect them to change to something different within 12 months, as they've done numerous times before, I don't know if I could be bothered. Regardless, I'm sure it will be entertaining. :)
