Stare at our spacetoilets in awe in our ships, repair damaged component with our spacewrench until its healthpoints run full would have been so much better yeah... :)
Or more likely, as "interiors raaaarr!" tend to demand, just wander around without any actual gameplay. Which would be nice enough, I suppose.

"We".

"We" has spoken. Stand down people, shut the servers down. All hail "We".

Quickly children, gather round and learn all about sarcasm.

Since it first appeared in 1984, Elite has always been an open world spaceship flying game. It was the first of its kind anywhere. That's what made it so popular. With this 2014 remake, 'we' long-time players thought it would be cool if we could walk around inside our very cool-looking new ships. That's all. And now Odyssey.

Whilst it would be great to interact outside our ships on foot just like in the game fiction, without any meaningful interaction beyond poinking at each other (i.e. without Player-Player commerce), and without our ships being part of the open world (i.e. without being able to walk around and seamlessly in and out of our ships), Odyssey is just a First Person Shooter that nobody asked for, crudely tacked-on to our Elite remake, whose spaceship-based component is already only half-finished.

What is more, judging by this video Odyssey is not even a good FPS. No special moves, no special attacks, no unarmed combat, no hitting the deck, no crawling, no climbing, no ducking behind cover, no hiding. Anyone can see that the on-foot combat is just going to degenerate into people standing still in the open poinking at each other until the hit points run out. And hearing the flatulent marketing-speak of the developers only convinces me even more that that's all Odyssey is going to be; we've heard it all before, and at a certain age you learn to spot low quality straight out of the box and call it for what it is right off the bat. Rubbish.

Not a fan of Odyssey then?

Np, once it is released we will start to wait in-ship walks ignoring everything else as always :D
However i would try that new exploration, especially if I will have to establish some sort of base, not just walk around and go.

I have another unanswerable question (my wife says it’s my most endearing feature), about low atmosphere landable planets. Do we think that these will be new landable planets, or will they be existing bodies (ones we may have already visited) that will have been modified by Stellar Forge?

I don't think it'll overhaul systems generation: airless will stay airless, same for atmospherics but some (based on atmosphere pressure?) will be available to land on. So these will be new, never landed on by CMDRs before, planets.

So, I've just pre-ordered the Deluxe Alpha Expansion. I really can't go back through 359 pages so has FD given any idea when it'll be available for download?

Sarcasm?I have never heard of such a thing.

So this 'we' is the long-time players that you have decided to speak for? I'm a 'long-time' player, as if it matters, 1984 BBC to today. What you mean is some players wanted to walk in their ships, some wanted to walk on planets, some wanted to eva, some wanted to walk on our Moon, some wanted to take long train commutes (I've gone too far).

But all those things - not the last one - were and as far as we know still are on the plan. But they were never envisaged to arrive in one go.

More importantly - they were never envisaged to arrive to YOUR preferred schedule or sequence, with other parts of the plan abandoned because one player didn't want them.

So ... when did you play it?
