So I bought a T9 ..........again!!!

I'm not starting a petition either but can anyone see the benefit of a buff to one of the issues of the ship or do you think it is fine as it is?
I just see more negatives than positives from reading the comments and a whole lot of compromises to make it work barely comfortably.
Considering it is a ship that any player can access easily, it isn't the most convincing purchase that a CMDR can make without feeling short changed and deflated after only one run.
Hm. I'm a big fan of the T-9. I wouldn't mind two more utility slots. That's it really. 🤷‍♀️

What would you use them for?
Straight away I think maybe a chaff or point defence and an additional Booster because the current four house Boosters and a Heatsink.
Good shout. The T10 has 8 doesn't it?

As soon as the escape vector goes off screen, I see that as a failure and submit.
Are some of you saying that I should persevere and ride it out?
Yes yes yes... just keep headed towards the escape vector your T9 interdiction meter reduces so very slowly compared to other ships (and increases quickly!!) you’ll be fine, no tricks just takes time to evade some interdictions but you’ll Win 99% of the time.

Thank you. I'll give this a shot.

If they made npc's more dangerous in last update, great, I'm down with that, we need that.
They did not. Your trade rank probably increased. That will get you seeing tougher enemies, even if your combat rank stays low.

I too ran into trouble as my trade rank rose--but in the old days Elite in trade wasn't done in a day and I learned to fly much better by the time I hit Elite. Still not gonna rank up there with any of the good pilots, but I'm well past serviceable. Today, I'm doing the unshielded runs while Elite in Trade and Dangerous in Combat, so I get a pretty good mix of Deadly and Elite NPC pirates. Mind you, I don't lose interdictions to them, but I have a lot of practice with this ship.

I just use a size 7 shield with 3 boosters and carry a C5 SLF. 2 C2 beam turrets, c1 rail guns and a packhound. Its not min maxed but with 1100 mj and decent firepower, the only thing that is going to bring it down is a full wing of pvp ships with grom bombs and torpedoes. Still hauls over 600 tons. My advice is tank it up and keep on trucking.

Pack-hounds! (y)
(Yes, I'm planning yet another T-9 build: Q-ship).

  • if earning rates wouldn't be what they are, the main selling point of a t9 is (was) its price tag. i think my conflictzone cutter was 600 mio, my trade cutter 300 mio, and my beloved trading t9 something around 120 mio - not more than a maxed out python (maxed out for all i do)
  • you can't buff the t9s outstanding cockpit/bridge
  • there is a hidden killing fearure of a t9 - if you use bulktrading for backgroundsimulation influence gain (which has its own "bucket" seperate from missions), you'll need a run less with a t9 compared to cutter, as you can outlast 4*150t of different commodities plus 120-150 of a fifth, while a 656t cutter is restricted to 4 different commodities of ~165t.

I honestly wish that FDev gave it a bit more love especially with this Lakon takeover saga in the BGS. The Cutter excels in every aspect to the T9 that you question how badly build the T9 is. Even if the T9 had one strength similar to the Cutter, that would be a bonus.
It seems that for the T9 to be viable, you must select your missions carefully to reduce the number of interdictions from enemies, which I don't think is for me personally.
The trouble is they already buffed the T9, around or just after SLFs were added(?), it gained the second size 8 slot and there were stats changes to improve its flight and jumping.

T9 and T10 both need help. The only reason to fly them is out of a stubborn fondness for them. It's why I fly T10s.

I don't see why the T9 shouldn't just be the cargo king, period. The Cutter already has crazy speed and shields with a good loadout, does it really need the cargo crown as well? Would be nice to see some actual choice here for truckers. Need to ship cargo in dangerous places? Cutter. Need to ship a lot of cargo, period? T9.

Yeh I remember that buff because for the sizes of both ships, it didn't make sense that the Cutter had a much better cargo capacity. It is similar now but the T9 is still far inferior in comparison.
I just unlocked the Cutter tonight and bought and loaded it up at Jameson.

I don't think I'll be looking at the T9 for a while.

Engineered 5 prismatic+boosters should be plenty for NPCs if you don't linger.

If you don't have the materials to engineer boosters, you can always run a pair of size 4 SCBs. Fired together, that's 276mj of shielding restored. It doesn't sound like much, but with four pips to systems, it should keep you holding together long enough to escape. Keep dumping them as needed.

edit: You'll still have 720 cargo or so as well.

You can go down to 600-640t cargo and add ample tank and some weapons to your T-9 and even, if you go more to 600t, add an SLF. Should allow you to kill system pirates yourself and even handle mission Anacondas at least long enough for system security to relief you. Here's my 640t fit without SLF bay. Four pips to systems, two to weapons and you're operational for the duration of an encounter.

Resurrecting the thread to just inform any interested folks that I finally lost an AI interdiction last night to an Elite Imperial Courier (was a rando pirate among the mission enemies). Seems now that my combat rating jumped to Deadly, the amount of Elite rando pirates (vs Deadly or Dangerous) has increased a bit.

Tried to win the interdiction game too long and wasn't able to submit, which made the encounter even more fun. Fun fact I learned--Elite enemies do in fact snipe components, as it pounced on my thrusters pretty quickly. So much for getting away, I thought, so I went into the reboot cycle to bring the thrusters back online. Fully expected to get blasted during this, but oddly it landed no shots on me while rebooting. Weird.

Once the ship powered back up, I realized my radar was empty. It apparently got bored and left? Didn't stop it from trying to interdict me again, but this time its interdiction capabilities were not as ridiculous as before, and I shook it off easily. All in all, a weird encounter. Left me with 44% hull and maybe now I'll add armor and point defense, but still gonna go shieldless. :D

I don't know why! As soon as I filled up my cargo racks and headed to my target system, the familiar doubts came back when an NPC ship messaged me to tell me that I'm the one they're looking for.
It was pointless even considering to evade interdiction, so I submitted like a good lad.
An Anaconda NPC followed by a separate Alliance Challenger NPC.

I got out of there with no shields and only 78% hull before I was once again being pulled out by the same 2 NPCs within 20 seconds.

.....

I do wish that the T9 got a buff either speed, maneuverability or shield strength to give it a chance out there.

This is the thing with a T9; if you get attacked you ARE almost completely defensive.

If I was going to change/add stuff to help the T9, I'd suggest tweaking it's mass-lock factor so it takes bigger ships to interfere with it's FSD charging and I'd like to see FDev introduce more defensive weapons & systems, ideally ones (like the Point Defence turret) that remain operational when your weapons are stowed so they remain online while you're attempting to escape.

In the mean-time, Chaff, PDTs and an ECM ar your friends and don't forget to jump to a different system, after being interdicted, because nothing can interfere with your FSD charging for a trans-system jump.
In aid of that, I'd suggest a strong shield and upgraded hull armor, which'll allow you to plot a jump without too much panic under fire.

You could always drop them a few items. That'll get them off your back.

I had an NPC I had just given cargo to drop in on my next interdiction and help me escape. Guess I covered the toll costs.

Just be sure to note the minor factions that help you out and the ones that don't. Then play the game. I'm sure you could manage to recoup your losses from them and maybe have a little fun doing it.

Wait are you telling me that a pirate who took your cargo become an ally that defended you??? Wanted pirates sometimes fight eachother. Was there something else going on that made you think it wasn't just going to rob you again but got distracted?
