Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Enjoyable jaunts across the black. Now working with Archon for his PP delights, secured permit to Sol, completed longest delivery mission yet (320kls), nudged into Novice, and the recently further beefed Krait Mk II has pirates turning tail constantly. Corrosive MCs are fun!

Trying to grind some mats along the way to do lots of hull/armour buffing and finally a thermal vent in the Beam laser. May be some time as lot of V Rares required.

so many orange sidewinder errors..
solo seems to be the only mode that's working for me
It's a temporary thing until Odyssey gets the full release. I only get this when they're running beta tests, presumably because they have to reallocate a lot of server capacity for the beta. I'm getting the same thing now worse than ever, so I'm pretty sure that it's because they're taking servers offline to do whatever they have to for Odyssey. The Odyssey alpha is imminent.

well even though the game tried to break me last night with the orange sidewinders, livery issues and now a grey'd out transfer option from ship to cargo that could only be resolved by switching player modes (which then threw up even more orange sidey's)
I am very much in a honeymoon period with my beloved FC, itching to get back to her

You went for the Nautilus look I see. For some reason, it reminds me of the Discovery from 2001 - must be the sphere at the front. I wish they had a few more layouts though.

I like the nice touch of seeing NPC ships come and go when in an occupied system. And the fact a carrier is a portable star port.

The downsides - and, yes, I've mentioned them before - is that there's no hyperspace visual when jumping and the fact your crew doesn't recognise you as their commander. Ah well.

Don't get me started on tritium either :D

Still, I wouldn't be without one now: it makes a long journey into the black less daunting... I doubt I'd ever have made it to Colonia just using, say, Phantom.

the plan was to go for the Victory class but once I had a proper look at them Nautilus really caught my eye, the pic of it on the site doesn't do it justice at all
colour was another struggle, loads of great choices but for me it had to be salvage red as it was my original colour scheme before Azure came along

time it takes to jump is a right pain really, wouldn't be so bad if you could plot a route and let it do multiple jumps automatically, if not then i think they should reduce that time

They already did. It is a mobile station, not a ship. I personally would like to have the original much longer delay restored as that seemed more fitting.

which I get but if im just using it as a personal carrier with limited services, then maybe there's an argument that it shouldn't take as long to jump as one with all the services and open to everyone, or offer an automated multi jump that's dependant on tritium in your depot

out of interest how long was it initially ?

One hour wasn't it?

As for colour, I'm torn between green or white:

I wish we could get rid of those inverted comma's on the carrier name - although it doesn't show as such:

I think @Para Handy had a conversation with FDev about this a while back...

FDEV stated that they have reduced it to the minimum possible, given what has to occur 'backstage' during a jump (lots of network stuff, coordination of bookmarks, instancing logic, market changes, security, etc. etc.).

It doesn't bother me a bit, I just plan for it now.

My carrier used to be blue.

I changed it to black (well, graphite is closest I could get) and renamed it in memory of my pet bunny-copilot who died this year.

His name was "Dusty" and my carrier is now "To Dust We Return". And my all-black Python is "Dust We Are." Just to remind me of what's important.

I now have over 7500t of silver in the cargo hold and paid just over 26m for it, I'm gonna keep filling till I'm bursting and should get around 1b profit! not too shabby
of course I'm fully prepared and accept the second I decide to sell the market will fall through the floor

cheap silver only from medium pads though, so round trips of 290t at a time is a bit on the slow side, when's that LaCore DynamiKon T7 with the increase storage and medium pad mod out??

I done the same thing, it was fun to start with but as you say experience inevitably takes over and you slip into doing stuff you know
poor old ARAiCS hasn't had a look in since leaving the starter zone and earning millions from planetary scan jobs in his sidey, he was going to be my fedneck extremist as well

if you do, try and play as opposite to your main, definitely don't be chasing the creds, absolutely don't stack the "explore the galaxy missions" before you leave the starter zone...recon I might start again (again) soon and not exploit any money making hacks - just go traveling and scavenging

A thought is forming and it won't go away.

I may start a second CMDR. Need to look into how that works.

I'd like to see how things compare to when I first started, see the new starter zone. The one thing you can't start from scratch with is experience. I dunno... may be something to think about a little more.
I was going to do the same, driven by curiosity about the starter zone. Trouble is, I wouldn't want to do that combat grind again, I'm determined to get to triple elite and the combat elite badge is so hard to get that I can't face it again. I also have no interest in running two commanders alongside one another, so any new one would be a replacement rather than an addition. I thought about making a new pilot a pirate, literally never paying off a bounty, just skipping systems when it got too hot, but figured I'd still be torn between two. So I am sticking with my current. But I see the appeal!
