ObsidianAnt video about odyssey delay.

Thanks,so I'm glad I fell asleep!! :ROFLMAO:
The rest was padding about CP2077 devs...
Crazy that The Buur Pit came to entirely different conclusions with the same information... But they may not have quite so many Patreon subscribers to keep happy.

Imagine if Bethesda bought out Frontier.

:D S

I don't know what you mean by this... but for me personally, comparing frontier to bethesda is what keeps frontier looking bad every time they do something.

Both games: Same long running technical issues, same covid, critically same complete lack of action to fix anything, same online playerbase community, same marketing departments determined to somehow be self complimentary yet humble ontop of products with real issues.

The critical difference between the two games is eso admit to knowing about their technical issues.. and it makes them so superior every time they say something in public. That simple dose of honesty turns the exact same listed company pr output from cold heartless misrepresenters into people again. There could be uk cultural pillars im not seeing that define frontiers attitude but..

Its not that hard though. If you make perfection, you get to act like you do. If you make less than perfection, you can only act to your score. If all that checks out then there's only positive things. How deciding formally to leave issues as they are forever and just acting like they making perfection really i don't get. Maybe frontier aren't that bad, but white knights make it seem that way, and only damage to their adopted corporation in these cases.

Both Bethesda and Frontier have been known to release very buggy games (anyone played Daggerfall? Anyone played Frontier: Elite 2?), and both have (eventually) come round to admit having issues when, well, they have issues.

What exactly do FD need to explain more than just that they were impacted by COVID? Do you need to hear that their supply chain, manpower, communication lines, workflows, networking capability and whatever else went awry with the impact of the pandemic? Are you looking for a scapegoat?

When have they acted like they make perfection? They roll out products, do their best to support us when there are issues, and generally come slightly short of perfection as everybody else does when trying to push boundaries.

Don't you mean ... "Imagine if Bethesda Microsoft bought out Frontier." ?

😁

I don't think it's anything to do with any UK cultural difference, I think it's just the way the individual companies approach their customers. It's probably also connected to company size and status. Compare Frontier's approach to their community to that of say ... Hello Games (also a UK company). HG are tiny in comparison to FD but since they turned NMS around HG appear to have a very community friendly attitude and a very happy community.

I don't think CMDRs would like it if FDev adopted Hello Games' approach to communications on updates: no details until the fortnight before said update drops

Also don't forget that Hello Games had no choice about turning NMS around, it was their only product of note and if they didn't do the right thing the company was out of business.

I agree, but HG's MO is also to have far more frequent updates than FD do (certainly in recent years) and the NMS community don't seem to mind more frequent 'surprise' updates.

Again, is that because HG is being 'consumer savvy' or because the game was in such dire straights that they had to release frequent updates and the community was just happy to be able to play the game! Also having far more frequent updates could be an indication that there is a lot wrong with the game, not that they are being a good community minded developer.

I play NMS a lot. Most of the updates bring new content. They simply have different development cycle...

NMS has improved very much following the VR update (although I still consider PCVR to be more PSVR quality even today) as optimisations and new content has been added.
It is a good game in its own little niche and every update recently gives a little bit more. I really liked the 'walk around the wrecked freighter in space' addition last year! It isn't ED, but is fun to play every now and then for me.

But, it should be remembered that they had a lot of negative publicity to recover from in the first instance.

Okay, I'm not attempting to, nor am I interested in, getting into any particular criticism or support of one company over another. I was primarily commenting on the comparisons of community management approach that had been made between companies like Frontier and Bethesda earlier. I mentioned HG because they're another UK company and of a very different size than Frontier. I perhaps should have remembered that merely mentioning Hello Games in a discussion here seems to trigger people, but there you go.
For the record though the updates I was comparing were new content addition updates, not the bug fix patches that follow them (which are still usually quicker, more numerous and more detailed from HG than they are from FD).

For what it's worth I do think Frontier's community strategy has improved noticeably in recent months with the addition of some obviously passionate and ED focused new managers. While there is still a lot of the "We have nothing to announce about X" and "We can't give any details about X at this time" language it does feel like we have a community team that are genuinely trying to squeeze as much info out as they reasonably can. They're still always going to be reined in by the corporate higher-ups though, aren't they?

Whenever Hello games/NMS is mentioned I always feel the urge to point out to the comparison club that Hello Games out and out lied about their game from development right up until two twitch streamers discovered the lies about multiplayer being non-existent in the game at that time.

They had no choice but to turn tail and fix and add the content they lied about.

Exactly but for some reason there are people here who will put HG up on some pedestal to show how inept FD apparently are. But like you said, they dug themselves a very deep hole and only had two options when the excrement hit the rotary cooling device: fold or fix. FD have never been in that deeper hole!

Yea im no white knight or whatever the kids call it these days but I do get a bit offended on Frontiers behalf when people compare HG and Fdev.

As far as im aware Frontier have never out and out lied to their consumers.

It is easy to remember, you are a White Knight if disagree with someone's rant about the game. Doesn't matter that you often highlight bits you don't like about the game or ways it could be improved - if you don't take a ranters side then you are officially a White Knight :D

Gosh, Leo, can't you read, dagnabbit!1!111one1!!!
There are folk here pointing out that Frontier lied about everything, release dates, COVID, minimum specs, what day of the week it is...

Don't you have the spine to admit that the DLC "Oddyssey" is far more important than anything going on in the world today (although I'm sure the doubters would call that just another conspiracy theory) and that if it isn't released yesterday, particularly on consoles, that the end of civilisation is just a blink away? Oh, the shame of it....

(Darn it, I'm laughing so much I spilled my coffee 😭)

Sorry my bad I usually dismiss them as tools and carry on with my care free day.

My spine is sadly not 100% today as I was not so clever last night stripping a wall of its paper and throwing my back out.
