Ammo Crates + Resupply Limpets

One argument for allowing "ammo rack" internal modules? It's another alternative to stacking up HRP meta.

Engineering would need to be rebalanced as a byproduct of this though, since some balances are +/- ammo capacity, so that is made kinda useless. If something like this were put in though, it'd be good if it were tightly limited, like, an anaconda chock full of "ammo" storage internals would only have a net 100% boost to ammo, so typical use of a module or two would only add 5-10%

Honestly, ammo capacity is already pretty useless for most weapons. Why take 100% more ammo when you can just take 70% more damage instead?

The exception is weapons where it's basically the only good option, like missile racks, but unless you want to be burning through ammo crates like mad(as in multiple times in a single fight; small missile racks with rapid-fire run out of ammo in 20 seconds) they'd still be good in those cases.

All in all, I think they would be fairly balanced, as you would need to give up something else in order to fit them. Whether that be a hull reinforcement, an SCB, or something else.

Oh sure... i guess i was more leaning towards the negative effects in this case... the drawback of corrosive shell is less ammo (per clip and overall)... if ammo modules were a fitting, this debuff becomes a bit of a moot point, and would probably need to have a different nerf applied.

Like small gimballed corrosive multicannon on a layzoors 'Vette.
Honestly, I think there's an issue balancing things because of PvP vs PvE.
If I put ammo stores in the 'Vette for PvE... too much.
PvP... Maybe, swapping stuff for ammo? PvP, Not my thing but, not seeing many complaints from people who are mega PvP. 🤷‍♀️

Sorry, edited for clarity.

If reloading from Cargo was gonna be a thing, you should have to retract your hardpoints and then wait another 15 seconds or something before you can redeploy them.
This. You could even go further and cancel reloads when you engage FSD and allow us to stock up on torpedoes😋
I'd really like it if it worked like limpets with the advanced maintenance tab. The question is how far would you go in ammo types? Do we separate every class and sizes? Do different tonnages refill the same amount? Like say a C1 multicannon ton of ammo could fill it to max, but a C4 ton would only fill it to 25%. Bigger weapons means bigger bullets, and bigger ships can easily carry bigger cargo racks.

I love using weapons that fire a lot of bullets very fast.

I do NOT love having to go back to reload every 10 minutes. Or even worse, having to synth all that.

What about Ammo Crates? Each one gives a certain credit value worth of ammo; some guns would take multiple crates to fully reload, others types you might reload your entire ship with one crate. This way a player can stay out there in the action for longer, having fun rather than getting annoyed.

Even better, give us a Resupply Limpet Controller, so someone with both Limpets and Ammo Crates could resupply another player. Just target them, it consumes a limpet and an ammo crate, and flies to them and reloads their ammo.

I personally would very much appreciate this if it existed.
I knew this ridiculous FPS capability would continue to devolve the game.

Tbh corrosive shell is so obscenely overpowered its 'downside' barely even counts as such.

It's a single experimental that can boost your entire damage output against armor by like 90% in the right circumstances, it's ridiculous.

If its penalty were changed to something else I'd be a-ok with that.

Point defense is this tiny thing that can hold ten THOUSAND rounds of small caliber ammunition. Multi-cannons with big ammo drums can only carry a few thousand. What gives?

Choosing to trade some of your limited internal space for cargo racks to store ammo? This is completely game breaking.

Oh it will be worse I'm sure...
🤔
We'll have drones from your ship that deliver ammo to you and your front line friends...
Or magic ammo clips that self regenerate... No doubt with a 2sec fire pause.
🤔
We'll have 'smart' bullet rounds that can fly around corners.
And personal shield harmonic boosters with 'mirror surface composite' enhancement.
🤔
Incendiary weapons that can incinerate a person instantly.
And 'forced rebound' that will knock someone 40 feet through the vapour thin 'air'.

I'm sure there will be plenty of silliness to come with Odyssey...
I'm in little doubt it will live up to its name.

You answered your own question.

No I didn't. Because it makes zero sense. You can stack PDT's to the sky and they hold 10k ammo each. Where exactly is all the ammo stored? It doesn't make any logical sense that that situation exists, but multi-cannon ammo and others are so horribly limited.

Also that's not even getting into how you can literally fire off an infinite number of Detail Surface Scanner probes. They seem kinda big. How does that work?
