Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The Dyson Sphere Program has temporarily taken over my life. It's an Early Access game that's remarkably solid. I enjoy games that involve building and logistics, such as Factorio and Satisfactory, and this new one fits right in.

I won't bore you with details, but if you like that sort of game you might want to check it out.

Meanwhile, my carrier is waiting for me. I'll be back shortly, of course, I always am!
Dyson Sphere? That sounds intriguing! I'll take a look, I think, but I only ever have time for one game at a time :)

FROM DUSK TO DAWN
One of my favourite films! A lot of quotes are just too rude to quote here, but Cheech Marin's introduction to the "pub" is quite... amusing. In a completely un-PC and sexist way :D

" Show me the money..."
It took ten days for the decommission to finalize. Now a 11.1Bcrd's 🕺 and mats gathering again, at any nav beacon I want, in a Hoover class Corvette.

My Fc is now owned by Cmdr Validating... 👍

Looks like a place to head for!

One of these days, maybe. Just seems so farr away!
To be honest, I really wasn't all that fussed about it until I got there. As I said, the pictures/vids on the net don't really do it justice. But then I decided "what the heck? I'm in the Nebula already, and that was 22,000 LYs, so what's another 11,000? Load up the AFMU and hop on the Neutron Highway. Even managed to tag a bunch of Terraformable HMC firsts along the way (which surprised me since I thought everybody and their brother had gone that route) and an Ammonia and Water World. No ELWs, though. Didn't much expect those around Neutrons either.

One thing, though. The star density in there! I thought Colonia was dense. Hah! Even plotting only single jumps my poor old rig was having conniptions at times.

Memorable trip, though. So much so that I don't mind the return trip in the slightest. :)

Don't forget to do this:

Don't forget to do this:

Maximum thanks for that, buddy! If you hadn't mentioned it I would have made it all the way back to Colonia and cursed mightily when I found out :) (y)

I am now 12,000 LY from the bubble, heading northeast toward the Sagittarius-Carina sector. Having an Anaconda with 75 LY laden range and using neutron boosts whenever possible really makes traveling fast. I have about 36,500 LY to go.

What I do is what I call targeted exploration. Before departing from the bubble, I select the sectors I will focus on in earnest and delineate ts borders with bookmarks. I then "buckybal" toward it and then explore the sector in earnest. The focus of this trip is that big unexplored hole at the easternmost sector of the Sagittarius-Carina Arm region. It should take a couple of weeks to map it.

Right now the game is on upgrade status.

During the last 4 month long trip, I seem to have missed some community goals and events, including the one in which a fully engineered FSD was the reward.

One reason I use the Anaconda instead of the AspX or DBX for galactic edge work is that I don't have to rely so much on jumponium as it would be the case if I used the latter two. At the extreme edges of the galaxy, distances between systems can easily be more than 70 or 80 LY. With the Anaconda, I can travel between most systems without using jumponium, and don't have to rely much on basic or standard if I have to use it. If I took an AspX with a 64 LY laden range (with fully engineered prismatic shields and E rated boosters), I would have to rely much more on jumponium. As for the DBX, it's a fine ship but one thing that I don't really like is its rather small fuel scoop.

Found a hotspot with tritium bubbles just about, by the width if a remlock suits' saddle, overlap. The yields here are above average, which is to say almost completely rubbish, not totally.

This is Tiffany Aching hard at work - as Lance Corporal Jones used to say "They don't like it up 'em!". Well, in this case, it's tritium, so we do:

It's only ~900LYs from Sol so first disco's are almost out. Lot's to explore though.

Took a couple of nice snaps on a planet I found - which collapsed my shields on landing as I didn't pay attention to the gravity. Only 1.25G but I was already descending faster than my engines could reverse thrust. "Shields offline" and "Hull compromised" are not what you want to hear.

Congratulations on your journey! I also headed to Mandy's Rest to turn in the exploration data that I had accumulated from exploring the fringes of Mare Somnia (two sectors there, Gootio and Essap, were largely unexplored but I managed to get first discoveries in most of these sectors (excluding the outermost stars that mark the border with the intergalactic void).

Sorry for your loss of the SRV. I am sure you have already done the repairs at the carrier. This is why I like to drive very, very carefully since I carry only one SRV.

I see that you encountered biological structures. As for me, I found not a single space based one in the recent 4 month trip. In this regard, my 2 month trip to Tenebrae last summer gave me plenty of encounters of such life forms.

Fly safe!

Already my feat are itching to be off, but it looks to be another few days before planetary landing privileges are restored.
Carrier upkeep is 19mill, and i've mostly paid that off in ship transfers and maintenance, so the owner wont lose out too much.
I'm grazing on the local asteroids whilst i await transportation to arrive.(Not for another 2 1/2 days). In the meantime i have gone into business as a limpit manufacturer.. The pay is not much more than a cuppa joe but enough to keep head above water.
Re=stocking the SRV was no problem. Fortunately, remlok worked as intended.
Hope your trip goes well.

DB is not for everyone, it's true. But the fuel scoop issue is not as big a deal as it's made out to be in my estimation.
Its a trade off like, mass for velocity/range/trim etc., that a purpose built ship deserves in order to function at its fullest potential
under a wide range of conditions in a permanently lethal environment. The universe is harsh and unforgiving to the unwary and
the wary alike.
I have a couple of big ships in storage, that i have never flown because it took me 6 years to get this far and i still haven't found the limitations on this craft to do what it said on the label.

I want to like the DBx, I really do. But that engine noise just does my head in :D She's a nimble little minx though.

For exploration, I'm almost exclusively in the Phantom. The 'Conda is like a slightly more agile T9, although mine is fitted out for explo duties... hmm... perhaps I ought to try it out; I've never landed one planetside so that might be something to experience. I'm mid-folding space in my heighliner so I think I'll give it a go very soon.

A question though: if I have a module targetted, will my gimballed lasers and turreted MC's automatically hit that module? And what happpns once that is destroyed? Do I have to un-target it or do they just switch back ro the ship in general?
Ah, yes, it was a while before I worked all this out!
Always sub-target modules, in my experience it definitely improves hit rate from weapons (even if the weapons can't do much damage to the internals). Very noticeable when targeting small fast ships, Eagle, Viper etc.
My Layzors Corvette uses 'focused' engineering, this will do good damage to internals (increased piercing).

Which internals you should target depends on the ship you are attacking. T-9, T-10, Cutter, Anaconda, Vulture go straight for the Powerplant. If in doubt, go for the FSD to stop them running (sometimes I'll do high level Anacondas FSD first, then powerplant).

On my 'vette the focused Burst Lasers wreck internals.

Check this for 'Nekogami' weapons. Only ammo required is for the small MC, def worth having. Can sit in a HazRES for hours.
And yes, it's the onionhead PJ with green Layzors and engines and everything. :ROFLMAO: (y)

Engine noise on the DBscout is even more 'pocalyptic upstream 'putputput' .I rely on the change of pitch in engine noise being on in the background. That low growl that rises to a comfortable hum as the power surges ,that says 'working as intended, let's go do this' ; i still find thrilling. But it's an acquired taste.A real dreamboat.
Had it up to 530 (max boost 385) with gravity assist last time out. :giggle:
