Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Hey @Tippis, who is the guy on the left in this Space Quest 42?
ChrismobileBig.gif

That would be Hobo Lando.

Now, i'm not saying that the crazies are only on the SC forums. Go to any forums and you will see them.

But sometimes it seems like the lunatics are running the asylum (provided courtesy of Miribot from SA)

If you're using any means of communication other than what's included in Star Citizen then that's basically cheating posted:
The reasons why using anything other than using SC communication is cheating is simple to understand. There are many events within the game that would hinder or even prevent communicating with anyone, let alone team mates:

1. If your ships communication gear is damaged.
2. If your spacesuit's communication gear is damaged.
3. If you're injured to the point of being unconscious.
4. If you're dead! Yup - the most obvious reason and No there is no ghostly communication in the game. No mediums!
5. Being in an area that could hinder or even prevent communications ( caves, buildings, electrical storms, etcetera).
6. Or just having cheap gear ( does drake make communication equipment? ). And I'm a drake owner to don't hold making fun of Drake against me :slightly_smiling:face:

Do I expect some to ignore this and use discord, teamspeak, etcetera? Well to some, their concept of winning no matter what will sadly override the intentions of Star Citizen gameplay. This will unfortunately put those of us who'll adhere to using only what SC provides at a disadvantage. I suspect that this will mostly be a problem with the younger players and not the more mature - although I've certainly come across those who. even though they're older. are definitely not mature.

Yup, its cheating to use Discord because the game will hinder communications, therefore chatting with friends via Discord when it happens is cheating.

I don't know the source (I guess /r/sc or Spectrum) but i hope they got an appropriate response from backers.

PS: This is the game where they want to integrate Spectrum with the game, so regardless, you'll be able to post on Spectrum or use Spectrum chat even if your in-game comms are down. Well, unless you cop a forum ban, in which case, I understand you will cop a game ban as well. Assuming CIG ever actually implement any of this.

Nah, people in companies being forced to use the company's own products is pretty normal, even when there is a compelling case to use a competitors.
Let me rephrase.
Lumberyard is just a re-branded CE, it was not company's own product: some manager decided to buy a CE license and thought it would be a good idea to slap Amazon's AWS stack on top of it (and ask lowly devs to do it), and try and enter the gaming market and sell more AWS products while doing so, very probably to tick a box on his end-of-year performance review. Like the article said, it was a clown move for anyone in the know - and Amazon devs who did develop great things before (another topic entirely, I wont expand here) suddenly had this bag of flaming poop thrown at their feet, and got asked to extinguish it, quickly. Meanwhile the manager who made the decision got promoted, cashed in some nice bonus since he did tick that box, and very certainly some extras courtesy of Crytek whose life got saved.
This scenario is so obvious, and has been played so many times. (edit) I've left 2 companies in these exact circumstances. I know the aftermath: since the manager who made the catastrophic decision to buy that external product ends up promoted, a fresh new manager comes in to "save the situation" since the dev team is struggling to deliver anything (since the product plainly doesnt work) - by that i mean firing everyone and either replacing them by yes-men, or closing the department and freeing its budget. Seen both variations. Looks like in the case of LY the latter is now playing out.

"At least let us pass for money!" :D

Still didn't answer as to why you use the Ghost instead of the SH...if it's better than the SH I'll pop down to area 18 and buy one then fit all the crap from the SH onto it. I used to do that with the standard 7C, fit the SH turrets and guns on it because it had a smaller profile, less shield holes and no silly passenger seat ...

Regular Hornet is smaller, so harder to hit with same amount of hitpoints.

Ghost rolls faster than a Super Hornet, but that isnt that big of a deal.

Ghost gets a "stealth" buff that reduces the ship's signature.

And its black :)

New management? What? I skipped SC saga for quite a long time since boring court with CryTek ended, can you tell a short summary?
Holy Roberts stopped comparing SC to released AAA games and started to compare himself to Willy Wonka.
Nothing has been released yet. Except Cyberpunk 2077, and whiteknghters say that it somehow justifies CI-G's ineptitude. No idea why it relates here, but backers think it does.
More tech that has to be done before another tech can be done was discovered. In half a year CI-G had managed to create roadmap of new roadmap. In another half a year they have managed to create a new roadmap that is less informative than previous ones.
We were promised new video of SQ42. We got no video. Making video is hard! Half a year later we got an announcement that no information on SQ42 will be disclosed ever because its spoilers.
All estimates for SQ42 were withdrawn indefinitely.

As of late CIG is doing development backwards: they reduced player limit by 20% and removed Delamar.

Chris Roberts bit off more than he could swallow and got himself killed.

And Sandi is nowhere to be seen except in money reports

It's not so much the urban myth of a secret dev build, but when Ci¬G devs talk about the current game or even future stuff, they talk about it like everything works...which in itself is quite possible since 90% or more of Star Citizens problems and bugs that we as players experience every time we play are server related. I've no doubt that when they test a build or features internally, it's not done on the same shyte servers and server back end we play on.

I went back over some past miracle tech recently, and found this bit interesting

Sounds like OCS helped the devs out at least. (With no one else loading in all the other locations on their test server, everything ran a lot better ;))

These improvements in overall fluidity trickle down to Star Citizen's ongoing development by lessening the server load times required to make individual edits to code. "What happens with server Object Container Streaming is now all of a sudden my iteration loop is seconds compared to five or seven minutes. It changes the entire world for a developer," Tracy said with a smile. "Now I can load up as much as I want and hone everything." With the changes server OCS brings, developers can effectively spend less time waiting for the universe to load and more time working, which means developers have a chance to create new content for players to experience much faster.

Oh, I thought the SA discussions of Tony Z's background were interesting incidentally. The guy hasn't had a game published game since 1996...

His last hands-on gaming role was as the producer on the canned Loose Cannon project at Digital Anvil.

In practical terms though, the last game he successfully got out of the door, was this:

So yeah, Ultima and all that. But it does seem a bit odd that the guy is lauded so highly. His triumphs last came in the time of the isometric game...

Same for Erin, yet allegedly being put in charge of the PU.

...No sign of Erin though

Previously I had believed the project would never be successfully delivered, knowing about Genuine Cobblers track record.

However, when Erin joined I felt some optomism. Erin and his company with a record of delivered product, and also with him being 'part of inner the clan'. I really hoped that he could start getting the ship ship-shape.

And the sad news is, maybe he has. As best he can. As best is possible.

In mean time I'll stick with my $00.00 investment until the other 109 systems are finished and fleshed out. ymmv
