The Imperial Clipper

Low speed??? I love the clipper, despite it's very glaring flaws. It is in fact the only large ship I use. One thing it is not, however, is slow. It is by a very large margin the fastest large ship and the only medium ship that can outrun it is a lightweight Mamba (by a whopping 1m/s). My "core miner" clipper with a full cargo bay is substantially faster than a stripped down FDL.

It just felt sluggish to me, my Phantom is slower but just feels faster - and not gonna lie, the sound of the Clipper slowing down was the most annoying thing I've ever heard and was probably the main reason I sold it, whereas the phantom sounds better than the NailClipper.

Personal preference I suppose.

The only explanation I came up with is that Frontier didn't want to have a medium ship with size 7 optional internal. Doesn't make a lot of sense considering you have medium ships with size 7 core internals...
Nothing new here, just another example of the fact that Frontier designs the ship around the model and animation instead of using actual science. Each ship has its own physics to make them "unique" instead of using universal design mechanics.

Maybe the word you are looking for is responsive?

The Clipper can take a bit of time to slow down... its great at speeding up. Also changing direction is kind of a delayed response, its like driving a drift car.

I hate the Clipper

  • Low shields
  • Low speed
  • Terrible noise, seriously, it's like a cat's deathrattle
  • Bad name, reminds me of toe-nail clippings
  • Large landing pads are a drag, in the way that it drags down your sanity by forgetting this medium-ship is considered large

Basically it's the Cutter's "special" step-son. Phantom does everything better as an explorer/miner in my opinion.

Yeah the Clipper is one of those 'late bloomer' ships for me... disliked it for its looks (I've come around since as the paintjob makes quite a difference) and that it's a large pad ship with medium pad ship internals - am using it as my crime boat, and it's excellent in that role. With everything incl. kitchen sink installed, it still boosts 620m/s, and I do like the handling (even though it feels a bit too responsive for a large pad ship, but I'll take it) both in SC and in normal space - seeing your own thruster trails when changing direction doesn't get old.

It's a good jack-of-all-trades, but I just have better ships for each role there is, so it's superfluous. Its' design is trumped by the Cutter also, so it's a "meh". The dealbreaker is the sound.
What? A person has an opinion of their own that you can't comprehend?

Hive-minders...

And nowhere is that more apparent then when full thrusting down towards a planet - then reversing to slow down.

The Clipper is the only ship I ever slammed into a planet as if it was an empty pint

Took my shields down entirely - not a scratch on the ship though....

You can have an opinion, even when its wrong :D

Clipper is one of the fastest ships for its size, makes a glorious boost sound (the best in the game), has a large cargo capacity, can be called a Killipa because it is a bully ship.

Now, its downsides are its insect like landing gear. Beyond that the Clipper is an amazing low cost BGS pirate BWWWWOOOOkCHA beast.

I like the colour red the best. You might like the wrong colour the best, but that's ok :)

(I'm trying to speak in your language)

The Clipper is really extraordinarily fun to fly... too bad, it has such an awkward hardpoint placement, leading to a very limited choice of weapons, when used for combat... and where else would such a great maneuverability make more sense?

The Cilppper is for space pilots who feel weapons and combat are a neccesary nuisance, they're placed so as not be seen from the cockpit -

in fact it is as if they're not there at all most of the time, sometimes something far in the distance explodes...

No other ship says "leave me alone" just as well as a Clipper does imho (y)

Agree - it makes my C. look like a Ferrari ;)

0/10 Troll post ?

Luckily there's a ship, which feels very similar to the Clipper in terms of speed and maneuverability... in fact it feels even more nimble, thanks to stronger vertical and lateral thrusters. It also has the same hard points, but with a much, much better convergence...

So, if you love to fly the Clipper, but hate its hardpoint placement and thruster performance... try the Krait Phantom :)
I'm Krait Phantom owner. Excellent ship with very good jump range and good thrusters. But the cabin look and overall appearance... Slightly uncommon. Yes, yes that upper left/right corners with thrusters... I like my Phantom but for now I'm in the romance with Clipper :)

BTW I still can't to say which ship suits me best. May be one day I will sit in the Krait2. Good universal thing.

NPC with a pre-recorded response? Signature checks out...

Loved my Krait 2, much better than Clipper :)

I think you're making intentionally false and inflammatory statements about the Clipper, then when get called out, feign offense and raise the "opinion" flag.

In what reality is the Clipper "slow and sluggish" compared to the Cutter, which your very signature says is your main ship? It's like you're trolling intentionally as that's the WORST hot-take on a ship ever. And the thing about toenails? Really dude?

Yes, but I wouldn't use a Clipper with SLF and as a constantly-mobile AWAC like I can the Cutter...

Your pre-recorded responses need an update methinks ;)
