Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I didnt realize you can do this? Doesnt this open the doors for other companies to mimick and copy your work to begin with? As Star Citizen is touted to do so many groundbreaking things, does CIG have game related patents running? Does anybody know? I figure it should be a long list of things they have already implemented and are working on aye?

In case GTA6 comes out faster then Star Citizen, do you think CiG could get it for the game? ^^

So I guess wondering about why people do something is okay and shouldnt be taken as an attack or directive to do something more fruitful with ones resources at hand? You seemed to have problems with that concept in the past. Glad you get it now ^^
I said it before - this is educational thread and I still have confidence there will be insightful reflections on the usage of mayo here.

Quanta superposition dictates that both states exist.

Maybe they will release a peason-pack - you start with no ship at all and have to work your way up. 20$ if you pledge now and help shape this feature, 60$ at release, whenever that will be (it will be the way everyone who didn't pledge has to start - lots of crew available - if it ever releases, and probably only for a short while)
That’s only acceptable if it comes with detective gameplay.

It happens all the time. It's why there haven't been any games with a full on nemesis mechanic: because it's a patent that came out of Shadow of Mordor / War (I don't remember off the top of my head if its WB Interactive or Monolith directly that own it, but it's within the WB walls either way). Others can tip-toe around semi-related ideas, but unless and until WB decides to license it out or make more games featuring it, no-one else is allowed to use the same kind of dynamic story generator.

As for CI¬G, they sure tout a slew of groundbreaking things but… you know… they just aren't. At no point have they actually been able to present something unprecedented that would warrant patenting. It's all old old solutions using old tech — the only difference being that CI¬G has failed miserably to properly and competently implement these well-known methodologies. Failure isn't really patentable process, luckily. :D

I have lots of problems, but that is Not one of them.

What resources? there was no direction!

EVE and World of Warcraft raiding shows that there is indeed a large group of players who are perfectly content and happy to play second role.

The difference here being in EvE and WoW you're still controlling your own ship/avatar, and you can pull out any time you want and things can continue. You've always got stuff to do yourself.

Its no different in following orders while flying your own ship in ED or SC as part of a wing.

I'm fine with that. I'll wing up and let someone else take the lead. Because i'm still in charge of my own ship/avatar/whatever. I'm not dependent on scrub number 2 who is sat at helm control or whoever.

But playing a red shirt? No thanks.

Ah, thank you for the clarification.

You have lots of time, so that has cleared that up for me no need to prolong the agony.

Thank you so much MTB.

Hmm... anyone know if CIG have tried patenting anything? And succeeded?

I can imagine some bright eyed intern being sent along to the patent office to register a patent for CIG, slamming down a massive stack of papers while declaring "never been done before" only for the patent officer to reply "Sorry, this is already covered by at least 20 other patents"

Actually, considering how much backers and CIG have claimed has never been done before, CIG should have a mountain of patents by now!

EDIT: Just noticed question was already asked.

To be fair, if CI¬G could patent their failure process, the licensing fees they could rake in would be astronomical and they could finally get rid of all those pesky backers who keep thinking that CI¬G should be making a game for them or something. Good riddance.

It would be akin to playing the game on auto-pilot. Janitor is just one of the many possible classes you can go after if thats your thing but you would sit in this ship encased by steel without sight or impact while the speakers a reblaring out

- we got contact on rader
(10 minutes later)
- engaging a hostile force, all turret gunners, report to duty
(after a while)
- we successfully destroyed/routed the enemy forces, Big congratz to Mike for super flying and also Turret 2 and 6 for scoring those critical hits

You would spending your evening as bartended or janitor, hours at a time staring at the walls listening to the ingame chat without affecting it. Somehow this is even worse than watching streams.... And having one of the more important jobs like turret gunner would make you sit around forever fiddling your thumbs until something happened. Most sought after job? Pilot probably but even he would be sitting around doing nothing once the ship is down and exploration/recon forces are away. Pretty much every imaginable job on a space ship is tied to hours upon hours of doing nothing. The only job that is always active, always affecting how things go is the captain and you can guess whos that gonna be ^^

And if you try to seriously reinact real affairs you wont tolerate your non-janitor crew moping around (no pun intended), shooting each other, run across the ship or do whatever they want. The more people are included in a manouver the more control or rules you ll implement to ensure success. Rexshillas videos were always full of him acting like the general screaming and shouting at people who didnt do exactly what he wanted. Nobody is going to endure that kind of treatment or bossing around willingly.

So payment? But with a game that enables you to earn enough money on your own to purchase space ships I dont think thats going to be a viable way to play the game. Not when you could taxi a box in your starter ship in 30 minitutes and earn 10x that.

Multicrew is a nice fantasy but the way Star Citizen adresses it I cant see it being of any interest to anybody except for the company or roleplaying appeal. So far we have discussed multicrew in the Mole but thats hardly comparable. Splitting tasks between 2 or 3 people and splitting them between 120 per ship....yeah no. I doubt CIG even has the first idea how to accomplish this other than just putting in the option than telling the players "you figure out how to do this, its your game anyway"
