Never fly without rebuy...

You might find as you go through life that a shred of empathy toward your fellow human wouldn't kill you.

This is just a game guy. Just relax. Real life teaches you lessons, people don't play games to "learn lessons" they play to have fun.

Everyone knows crime and punishment is ED is a joke system, I don't think tuning it to punish players for mistakes without outright murdering them is a bad idea. I'm not cheering what he did, but nor do I think he should be clubbed over the head for it either.
On one hand you claim it's only a game.... Then in the same post you equate losing a ship in said game to being clubbed over the head and punished. Which is it? You can't have it both ways imo

You're drawing a false equivalency. And look, I'm not sitting here loosing sleep that this happened to someone I don't even know. I'm just saying, I see no reason to kick someone while they are down...

Blocking mailslot intentionally = malice
Blocking mailslot because of landing failure = accident

One is worthy of death, the other is not.

first, nobody here talked about blocking any mailslot, did you just make that up?

second, even so, how would someone blocking a mailslot kill you?

third, what would have any of that to do with the protagonist's reckless (as per crashing) and infantile (as per rage quitting) behavior?

I think your reading comprehension needs work:

my reading comprehension tells me that you are just wanting to make a fuss about nothing. have fun with your crusade.

Wow you really aren't reading very well here. I am not saying that, at all. What are you even talking about?

The game murders you for blocking the mailslot. Fact. Because that can be horribly disruptive in certain situations obviously. However it makes no allowances for those who accidentally get stuck blocking the mailslot WITHOUT ANY MALICIOUS INTENT.

I mean....can you seriously not see I spelled that out in black and white? Why the confusion?

I'm not making a fuss, and I'm not a crusade. I made a very off-hand comment that it would be cool if the crime and punishment system could distinguish between the two and you completely flipped out about it while totally failing to read and comprehend basic context.

What's your problem?

The difficulty is how the game identifies the context behind destruction. Big ships blocking the mail slot is a pita and is often used to anoy players. Blowing them up is a practical solution to keep the game flowing.
My original point still stands. The issue is how fast players can get these ships, skipping all the affordable ships where you can use them as disposable.

And even then the insurance is there . Am not sure how you could protect players from themselves any more than the game does already without giving players an invincibility button. It's not about me not caring it's about being a bit fed up with any meaning to ship loss already been ripped from the game and not wanting it to go even more that way.

As it stands when things go side ways I still get a small amount of panic..... But back when I faced real potential lost it was more so and I think the game was more rewarding for it.

Nah I'm good. The thread doesn't have much direction anyway aside from a story we've all seen and heard and experienced a hundred times anyway. I like charting my 'own path' here thanks

Yes we can see you like charting your own path. Try following the thread and stay on topic.

Crusading that somehow the game should magically detect the "intent" of players and punish them accordingly is both ridiculous and way off topic.

First offense: tractor beams from the station push you out of the way to a safe distance. If you block the slot again with X amount of time, then the death lazors come out.

But AGAIN, I'm just discussing this and spitballing. NOT a big personal crusade here like the other guy claimed.

This isn't crusading. It's called "discussion". The topic has been beaten to death and was boring, so I brought a fresh insight into it. Cool?

Honestly do you really think spamming "don't fly without a rebuy" is all that entertaining or engaging??

Like I said, this thread was just to warn new commanders, I know it's been said many times before, but maybe my pervious thread is more to your liking: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/premature-chaff-launching.564596/

The game murders you for blocking the mailslot.

oh, that. yes, after 10 minutes blocking a mail slot your docking permission will expire, and you will be shot. 10 minutes, sounds fair to me, i would shoot you myself since you're blocking a service. how is this the game's fault?

What's your problem?

don't project, you seem to have a problem with people's reaction to one guy's stupid behavior followed by a knee jerk reaction, when even his friend is capable of having a hearty laugh about this, that's the whole point of him posting this thread. looks like you swallowed a broom or sumthin ...

The mail slot needs to be remade. Bigger. Or Beluga needs to be shrunk 5%.
I will never own a Beluga again.
Ever. Still have PTSD from being so stuck in the mail slot. Been playing Elite since forever. It was so embarrassing. So embarrassing..

i've heard the same complaint about the t9 for years. the other day i finally got me a t9 and it turns out it goes through the mailslot butter smooth, the thing handles very well , there's ample space and not a single worry. i actually fell in love with it. granted, maybe the fact that i had a few thousand flight hours behind my back before jumping into that big brick had something to do ...

but the beluga ... gosh, that ship is just ... redundant. no, i'm not going to try that one out. i'm going to simply assume you guys have no clue about how to fly in elite ... 🤡

Yes we don’t know how to fly in Elite. No. That isn’t it. I can get the T9 in smooth as a babies bottom as well good sir. The Beluga is... it’s just wrong, man.
