Ok, let me try this again.

If someone had the ingenuity to hatch this scheme in the first place and then pull it off (oo-er), now that they have lost assets, been banished to paradise (SOLO) I just wonder if they'll now focus on another glorious scheme that is totally legal. I mean, FD may have just hit the wasps nest here.

I have a strange feeling that several of us are feeling a bit moderated at the moment.

I find it amusing that you're so anxious for some drama that you've gobbled it up, including hand, arm and shoulder, from the sole person offering it up without any evidence that:

1) it's actually happened or
2) of any facts made in the alleged decision made by frontier in relation to individuals (you know nothing yet feel it's appropriate to judge the outcome) or
3) of any details of individual conduct to other players

Let alone the laughable stance that the - currently 100% imaginary, not confirmed, unspecific, lacking full details - events being described are somehow equatable to the game's slavery or piracy or - most ludicrous - pvp.

But whatever makes you whole.

Without knowing the full facts its hard to make a full conclusion.

But based off what we know, i feel like FD would have been better served reaching out to those involved and said something like "We are not happy with this sort of gameplay. Desist or face action".

If they persist, then that's on them and any actions taken by FD after that would be their own fault.

FD could then also make a post making their position on the matter clear.

However, according to the polygon article the groups discord was full of racist slurs and more. So from that point of view, if true, i find it hard to feel sorry for them.

ED does not need Eve online like toxic game play. I say, perma. ban them as they deserve it.

i always love how people refer to EVE's "toxic" game play.

10 years playing EVE, and i find ED way more toxic. You knew where you stood in EVE, scams were entirely the norm, and easily avoided. If this happened in EVE, not an eyelid would be batted and everyone would say well played.

Here? I've been accused of trolling for UA bombing Jacques, exploiting for shard-gibbing Thargoids, and many other things. None of this has been penalised, and so i can only assume is within the rules, but god damn does an unprecedented level of adhominem and bile go with it on these forums. And who knows where the line between ok and not ok is... some think anything mechanically allowed is fine, others think a "hurt feelings" report is grounds for a permaban.

I think perma banning those responsible to solo and removing their carriers was a massive over reaction by fdev, a warning or small temp.ban would have worked just as well, I can't help thinking punishing creative cmdrs that create content (just look at both the exploit and the push to resucue the stranded noobs) and generate publicity should be applauded not punished.

Especially as - if they can rebuy carriers - it doesn't stop them actually doing it again.

As others have pointed out, we do not know the exact circumstances of FDev’s decision. We only have heresay, guesswork, and very few facts.

The racism report is also key. It’s possible that the people who were banned had several Code of Conduct violations stacked against them, and the “kidnapping” incident was just one part of FDev’s decision.

Everybody saying you should just self-destruct. Self-destructing will just get you back on the last place you docked with a shipyard, which is the FC that brought you into the far away system. So there is no escape route except asking for help or resetting your commander, no?

The problem of what I saw was not just the gameplay mechanic being used/abused but there was a lot of troubling language around it in-game and on discord. Context matters..

I am all for ganking new players but this one is crossing the line (especially the language I've seen) so I agree with FDEV on this one.

Self destruct and take the freewinder option. You still have your credit balance and mats and given that it was the slavers that helped them get the credits for the mining ship anyway (plus any small mining profits), they're still potentially better off than before getting involved with this.

I don't have a horse in this race either way, but I do think this was needlessly harsh. The proportionality seems a bit off to hand out perma shadow bans for that. At most it was a minor inconvenience for the victims, you can't hold anyone captive in this game.

Btw I think the overuse of the term "slavers" is utterly distasteful. That word has a meaning and shouldn't be used for such ridiculous issues.

To end on a slightly funnier note: Will Frontier ban themselves for the Gnosis?

Which, for the record, was a great event in my opinion.

I'd say so. It's a simple hop skip and jump to imagine a scenario which could definitely attract a ban (eg doxing/swatting, coordinated through Discord)

Edit: also, if you look at the EULA, they can terminate an account for pretty much whatever they wish.

Maybe that gave them a reason why they'd want to punish them. Frontier can do pretty much all they want, even looking up commodity prices on EDDB is against the CoC.

That being said, I missed the racism on Discord part of this story so I won't comment on that but it obviously changes things.
