I'm not quite sure if you reload back at the last starport or the last place you docked. I assumed it was the last place you docked- but I've never tried it out.
That's the case when you rebuy your current ship. The Freewinder also means back to start.
But to be honest, I'm not 100% sure either. Guess we're suffering from success.
Haven't had to use the Freewinder in ages.You can choose on the rebuy screen where to reload, in a freewinder in I think starter system or on last docked station/FC. From my understanding the "slavers" gave money to the "victims" in which case they wouldn't really lose their own progress.
IF the OP is true, then i really think FDev took a wrong turn somewhere and their actions were way too harsh for the galaxy they're promoting
Allowing seal clubbing or allowing someone to join a multicrew session then shooting the station to have the multicrew host killed or even the deceiving USS (distress calls full of pirates for example), but then banning the so called slavers is rather hypocritical - that is in a game that allows both slavery and indentured servants.
And i say that while being generally a carebear and having an anti-jerk stance.

It might depending on the nature of what was said.
The optics of the situation might matter. For example, if there is evidence of racism, FD might simply not want someone being able to spread their racism in game. Could this be part of the reason for blocking them in solo. Have FD also disabled system-wide comms for these people?
God I swear half of Borann must have been shadow banned at some time if this would be FD's stance.
There might be more reasons Fdev did what they did. Like the content of chat in system and or discord. Reports/records from the enslaved players etc

Yes, but that doesn't mean that FD didn't take the discord information into account (although it doesn't mean they did either).

I'm not saying it's definitive, but it's indicative.
Maybe something FD should look into then. If you mean in-game chat. I don't think FD need to go sneaking into discords to see what people are saying. But if people are saying racist stuff in discord and that comes to light during other investigations, then FD might consider it. Whether that is right or wrong... well, again, i guess FD are thinking of the optics. Imagine the headlines "Known racists abducting players in Elite Dangerous". I don't think FD want that kind of press.
Many years ago i was invited to a Teamspeak group while we winged up in ED. I won't name names, but it had imagry and text that made me very uncomfortable and i only stayed on it for the duration of the wing then left.
There are all sorts of people playing (even Furries!) but i don't think FD want to be associated with them, and if such things become public or run the risk of becoming public, then action needs to be taken.

FDev seem to have acted only out on concern for their own reputation, which was coming under fire from the tone of some of the gamer press articles reporting this. Plenty of other in-game nastiness goes on unpunished.
Victims could have solved the problem for themselves at any time, just by taking a few minutes to do some basic research about how the game works. Self-destruct & a Freewinder (if they hadn't paid for their mining ship, losing it shouldn't be considered a loss), or dropping into the Fleet Carrier Owners Club Discord and asking for a rescue, as two options for starters. There are others.

Can we get Polygon to do an article about the network issues, or missing PS4 Horizons?
Maybe they could write an article about how a lovable band of nerf-herders and freedom-lovers got their small hard-earned asteroid base stolen from them from an evil axis of bad guys? Asking for a friend.
No sadly they only deal in clickbait articles and not anything of substance.
