Slave Carriers Update

although I am a law enforcer in game, I would not ban commanders for that. The solution is as easy as sending carriers to rescue the slaved commanders.

The slavers made some people to work for them in the game, the trapped commanders could have made the suicidewinder accepting the loss of their brand new mining ship and that´s all, or wait for help (other carriers) to come to rescue them.

Maybe they banned for other reason I don´t know, but I consider it excesive, specially having in mind there is people all days exploiting other game mechanics in their favour and FDEV does nothing

Regards

Word on the street is it's for racism on discord and abusive speech, coupled with the PR disaster of that article. I can see why FD would ban them and take their carriers.

Got another one for the Grand Jury here -

If I parked my Courier (fitted with refinery and collector limpet) right underneath a noob player T9 mining vessel and leeched off LTD fragments that the T9 was mining, do I need to hand myself into the local police station or am I off the hook?

Once he noticed what I was doing he fired his mining lasers at me - can I sue for damages for the mental distress caused by this player's violent reaction against me? I'm not going to mention that I dropped his shields in response because... oh crap. Never mind let's settle out of court.

We have 2 separate 'issues' being debated here, but only one of them is in-game.
Frontier have no control over the goings-on of external websites (although for ones like EDSM, Inara etc. I imagine there are 'guidelines' to follow) used by players of the game - they could be full of verbal 'cuddles' or toxic waste level of discussion - it is up to the site owners to 'moderate content', not an external body. The fuss over a minor playing, and having access to a discord channel that was unfit for children (or even rational adults, possibly?) is surely wholly down to unsupervised 'play', did the 'slavers' ask the age of every player they contacted to ensure they were minors?

In-game - yes, they 'exploited' players who were new - and apparently unable to search the internet - with a unique 'scam'... In a dystopian galaxy where slavery is an accepted profession and slaves are trade goods, how far from the 'spirit' of the game did these players go?

I'm neither criticising nor praising their actions, but there is so much in the 'outrage' shown (because minors were involved, but we really need proof that this was a targeted action rather than unintended) because of the amazingly emotive articles being quoted... The online 'news' sites must be rubbing their hands in glee whilst looking for their next 'outrage' to unveil and keep the clicks coming... "All that lovely advertising revenue"!

If indeed FDev are banning people for what they say and write on third party channels (like Discord), that is a slippery slope. Will this extend to reddit? Facebook? Messenger? Whatsapp groups?

As for the "slaves", FDev has allowed us to buy and sell slaves for years. It is even legal in some places. Maybe some people lost the line that separates game from reality. There are some that takes this game too seriously.

We have recently received news that Frontier have taken action in response to the "enslavement" of new players in the Elite Dangerous galaxy. Frontier have reached the judgement that the actions that these players have taken breaches the ED Code of Conduct by "deceiving and exploiting other players". As such, the players involved in this activity have been excluded from Open play, and the assets which have been acquired through these means, including the fleet carriers, will be inaccessible.

This decision is being appealed against at the moment, so it is possible that it may be partially or fully reversed. However, the "slavers" have reached out to us and asked us to share this information on their behalf.

The New Pilots Initiative as a group are not taking any position on the decision, as it is entirely within the the gift of Frontier to determine what does and does not break their Code of Conduct. However, I would like to offer the condolences on behalf of Operation Chainbreak to the affected Commanders, both captives and captors.

I am sure that there will be strong feelings on both sides with this outcome, however, I would ask that everyone make sure that they treat each other kindly over what will be a very emotive subject.

IMO absolutely right.

All fun aside the discords sometimes get very heated and spicy, and that is phrased very benevolent. As does the ingame chat (Borann).
This is not ok and I agree FD has to take a stance here. Especially if there are screenshots going around from the discords to the press.

The simple "slaving" isn't enough though in my opinion.

This is the thing- a line has been drawn somewhere. I think we could do with knowing exactly where that is.

I'm waiting for an official FDev statement regarding the situation before I bother to look for my pitchfork.

That being said, I think this entire "Slaver Fleet Carrier" situation is probably the most hilarious thing to have happened in Elite since I've started the game in 2018. A bit cruel, yes, but hilarious nontheless. Our community came to the rescue of those stranded newbies and that should have been the end of the story, really (unless some REALLY mean commander pretended to be a rescue carrier and is currently shipping the poor "rescued" noobs off to Beagle Point or Sag A*, just to make a point).
