The Frontier Elite Forum

Oooh - a link would be appreciated.

Well, its not the figure post (which I think is later which I still need to find) but its this:

More specifically:

The bonus part fills in the (now aborted) timeline where PP was within a whisker of being looked at.

Hi, Cmdrs.

The Frontier Elite Forum.

I would like to access the Frontier forum archives when the announcement was made that ED would be developed (via Kickstarter).

There was a thread with a lot of posts and exchanges between Frontier and Cmdrs waiting for the confirmation that ED would be created.

And finally there was the announcement by Frontier and the reactions of the Cmdrs.

Someone knows a link ? This thread is still accessible ?

Hi
I don't know if I'll be 'ninja'd' but the 'Internet Wayback Machine' archives are VERY useful and there is a huge wealth of early Frontier Forums archived within... here's a couple of links for you:

Well, using the Wayback machine, thanks to Hems303, I managed to get a link to the thread in question, should anyone want to know what it said.
(it might only be page 1 of the thread, but it's something)

Here is another:

Aquick search I did find this one

Thanks Cmdr, unfortunately this is not THE thread. :)

I know exactly the thread you mean @Patrick_68000, in fact there was one particular post wasn't there which was basically THE "Elite: Dangerous is going to happen" moment. But I haven't had much luck finding it for you I'm afraid.

Thanks for your efforts Alec (y)

Nope, I get the Ooops message.
It really annoys me because I posted in that thread, as did others who can't see it.
This link must be made accessible by Frontier now, because I had found this thread excellent and a lot of nice to read the many posts.

This thread is highly historical and must be the property of the whole fantastic community as Mr Braben says. :)

I found that weighting post from Sandro, quite interesting.
While I'm not a huge fan of what Sandro Sammarco did (current crime and punishment, yikes), he at least had something like a vision for the game, which is something that has been absent from ED since he went off to other things, right until Arthur Tolmie showed up. I'm still sad that one of his last promises went with him: The reintroduction of 10% improved optimal mass as special effect on shields, enabling Cutters to run size 5 shields again.

Excellent (and also thanks to Cmdr hems303), but like you say it's only page 1 :(

Aaah ! I'm dying :D

I wonder if I should send a request to community@frontier.co.uk

Maybe they could do something for the community :)

While you're asking for the thread to be moved back, ask them to, at the very least, give us a reason for it being moved to a restricted section. I'd even settle for being told in a PM.
The problem is, I am thinking it was a decision made at a high level, and that's why moderators can't simply move it back.

The goal is not really to know why this access is restricted now but to try to get access to the entire thread :)

On page 1, I see that you were directly on the front line directly after David Walsh’s announcement. (y)

I well remembered reading you in this thread a few years ago.

You were very voluntary in your post. (y)

At least knowing why it was moved would help preventing it being moved again, and at least a consolation prize if it's not being moved back.

I was looking at the forum, refreshing it, when David Walsh posted he'd announce something in an hour.
I was also very very wrong about it. All things considered, I am happy to have been wrong.

The best thing about Sandro (as evidenced by that thread) was that he used to discuss things early when they were still at a conceptual stage and shared his thinking on topics of interest with us, also asking for input. The difference between that and the more recent iteration of 'here's what we're doing, we've already decided it and now we're going to hand-pick 10% of your questions for an AMA (the 10% we want to answer because they don't raise any potentially uncomfortable questions), so lap it up Commanders because that's all you're getting' is not an improvement in my eyes.

The 'focused feedback' threads still had at least an element of the old ways, well other than the exploration one that was unceremoniously dropped. After that though, if there is a link between feedback, design and implementation it's opaque at best.

In any case, a great moment that deserves to be archived on our hard disk :)
