Based on various posts I've seen, I think the switch was a design decision. Maybe FD wanted the Diamondback cockpits to be more alike (only lighting differences) in line with other Lakon ship siblings (Asps, etc). I think the switch better matches the canopy inside and out, too.

Nah, at one point the DBX had blue light emitting from its yellow panels and screens. Then it reverted back to it's original state after a year or so. The DBS stayed broken.

If you want a clearer picture, older YouTube videos might be better. Archon Fury is the right time period but his UI has modded colors.
