If piracy was fair, fun, and balanced for all you would have zero fear of this "career" changing because nobody would turn their PVP flag off during a CG. They would have a blast with you as your "role play" your way to stealing all their hard work or whatever it is you do.

As it is those who don't wish to engage in this behavior with the "pirates", are just in solo or PG's already anyway. While those who enjoy it, as you and ThePirate just said, are already in Open. So where does this idea bring about a sea-change in ANYTHING?

I really would like an answer but this isn't my first rodeo with you, so I know I won't get it.
I only play in Solo or PG to avoid gankers, not legit pirates. Player pirates have a bit of a moral code; you drop cargo and they usually let you go. Hell some of them are nice enough to let you leave with part of your load.

Gankers are the problem, not pirates. Gankers to me are just the psychos that murder weak ships for the lulz. They tend to avoid any heavily armed high-combat rank players. Those are the problem, not pirates.

Funny, the guys that tried to kill me went after corvettes, FdLs and my frag iClipper. Must have been better gankers.

Eh, I'd say those people are probably just looking for a fight. Slightly different. As I said, to me the gankers are just the ones who mass murder weak ships for no apparent reason.

This right here. People need to understand that there is a difference between legit pvpers, and those that butcher the low fruit for stat padding. Take eve online, you had this one guy who would camp areas that newbies would stumble into, in a battleship, and just pop any new lost player that came though, his stats were great, as he warped from any challenge.

How would you even know without flying in open?

Also what is the difference between people looking for a fight pulling me, and a ganker trying to gank me?
One thinks he has a chance, another thinks you have no chance. Its like sport, you dont put amateur boxers in the ring with heavyweight pros, itll be over quick, people made weight classes, and skill levels because they want to see close fights, a 'whos gonna win' type of thing.

Yeah me too and I hate that FDEV, and this forum, refuses to make allowances for those of us who want the real community MMO experience without the ganking. I hear Mobius is dead now too or something (confirmed?), so AFAIK we don't even have a viable alternative to that.

I would also challenge you about the "legit pirate" claim but I don't even have the energy right now to do another 10 page round with people trying to convince me that theft under the threat of violence is "rewarding legit gamplay" for the target.

Take a look at the PvP section of the forum and gauge the popularity by the number of posts. The rest is just trolls trying to get a rise out of people.

Attitudes like this are why I'm glad I don't participate in open anymore and why so many others refuse to as well.
What attitude?

You said yourself you only play in solo / PG. All your experience with gankers can't be much, and yet you
judge them, their skills and their motivations.

And that some gankers are the best PvPers in the game is a fact proven by several PvP tournaments.

And just for the record, I am neither a ganker nor a top tier PvPer, far from it, I'm pretty mediocre.
I fought against many gankers and lost.

LOL wow I just did, yeah, it's a ghosttown. But trust them, PVE players are way way way in the minority here apparently.
No PvE players aren't, no one said that. It's just that a majority of players accept open as it is. The rest have modes, blocklists and whatever.
And even PvPers are part-time PvErs because they have to grind for materials, money for rebuys, their carriers and tritium.
Everyone is playing PvE, just not everyone wants a PvE mode (aka don't hurt me, other CMDR).
I for sure don't want one, not because I gank, but because I like the thrill of being in danger. Opt-in NPCs don't do that.

It's the method I use, though only for genuine griefers/gankers. They get their one shot kill, then they get blocked, simple as.

I fully support piracy however, the cat and mouse aspect is genuine good fun. Every actual pirate encounter has been great fun, exactly how the game was meant to be played.
Gankers think they are the heroes of the story, but I remember system chat in Borann being dominated by people disgusted by gankers and switching to Solo. As a PvP pirate (one who never kills his mark except in self-defense), I encouraged them to come back to Open (teaching them how to avoid gankers) so they could experience real piracy. Some did, and they loved it!

So yeah, this occasional PvP pirate is sad that gankers push so many people into Solo, thus why I preach the good news of the gospel of block ;)

Please no, not again. A no PvP flag is just no.
Just use solo or PG, or argue for a separate PvE only mode. Any of that is better than the PvP flag idea.
