How to take better screenshots?

So, I'm using the default ED screenshot, F10, and the images it generates are poorer quality than what I actually see, like, by a lot. :(
Is there some way to improve that?

I cant be certain but I think you get a better quality shot in SOLO mode.
In... Solo game mode?? Why in the world would that make better screenshots?
Well that's a shame, I play in Open Play. Not gonna log out and log back into Solo Play to try to find what it was all over again that I wanted the screenshot of :(
Seems weird :/

I don't know the answer to that question but I wouldn't mind betting someone on this site does.

It saves an uncompressed BMP at full resolution. It should look exactly like what you see, unless you have some 3rd party post processing effect that cannot be captured by a screenshot.

You might want to try a 3rd party screen grabber that can at least save as PNG or some other losslessly compressed format.

The HQ screenshot function stalls the client which can cause issues with connected peers.

As Morbad says above - it’s a problem when other players are flying around. If I remember correctly, when it used to work in all modes some players were setting the screenshot folder to an extremely slow external drive or something and it was properly messing up stuff during combat.

I use Steam for my screenshots. F12 is the default binding I think. Jpeg, but good quality.
For some reason Steam screenshot doesn't work for me. I've checked settings, made sure it's set to F12 (and I've tried other bindings like altF12), and the folder it's set to save to is good... but it never works for me :/

"Print screen key"... Microsofts Capture application opens with the image software...
Edit = For others =works on geforce now version as well...as youll not have access to the image from the server save..

Weird. Does the Steam overlay thingy come up when you hit shift-tab?

Funnily enough that doesn't work for me, but Windows-PrtScrn does, and instantly creates a PNG file in the
Code:
C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\Screenshots
folder. I don't use it very much for gaming because the PNG compression is lossless, so you get big files for typical game scenes (it's great for general browsing though, because the compression is pretty good when it's mainly text). Minor drawback: the Steam fps-counter overlay shows up in those pics, whereas the Steam-generated pics are clean.

I believe you need steam overlay enabled. Make it a one-key action with a beep for confirmation it was taken. Best to upload them into the steam cloud after finishing gameplay for viewing of them, or you can also tick and set a folder for uncompressed 'steam' shots to be saved into.

I use FRAPS. Steam F12 doesn't work as that's Track IR center for me.

I set FRAPS to use Alt-S and it saves the shots in png I think. i use Irfanview to convert them to jpegs. Unlimited, and preferred over print screen for this reason.

Here's one from last night...
