Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Any planned or intended gameplay only works when you actually plan it or intend to add it in the first place. Ci¬G aren't too good at either ;)

Anything that works is planned and anything that doesnt is dependent on quantum, not long now folks, late next year you'll hear it soon :)

I very much doubt she has the ability to turn on a PC unaided...much the same as CR to be fair. Her main talents seem to be related to breathing air, spending money and insulting the higher spending end of the very customer base that provides her exorbitant wages every month...Entitled whiners I think she called us ;)
I'm not sure she was talking about You bud, there is noo way your entitled :)

As I mentioned before I have been giving it a go every year or so and there are definite improvements but with new introduced flaws.

It's like your friend gets a dog and they don't appreciate the size that it's got as it was incremental to them as they lived with the 'Growth'

but I see it once every year and the bloody thing is a monster, poorish analogy but you get the point.

The "we wanted chokepoints" excuse is hilarious. There is no need for restricted flight to give chokepoints. Points of interest are limited and everyone needs to fly to the same locations anyway.

Or should CIG force everyone on planets to walk in fixed straight lines?

Where did that come from, did I miss something bud?

I often do :)

That is fine, let me be a bit more specific. Occam´s razor can be relevant in many contexts. The one I was trying to alude to is not too far from its sister razor, Hanlon´s. Do not assign intent (evil or otherwise) when plain stupidity or incompetence will suffice.
I can wholeheartedly agree with that one :) well, at least the last part.

Edit- Also that ties up some of yours and My post quite succinctly :)

I mean generally performance wise, basics working (like less deadly physics grids, falling through floors / glitching).

Performance:

Performance and load times have got progressively worse with each reach update:

CIG's telemetry page is always worth a look. And it suggests you get incredibly minimal gains from new gear. Super cooling, or over-clocking or whatever, isn't going to work miracles there if the absolute top of the line consumer gear averages 53FPS in the current build:

Just using my generally decent rig as a reference point (1080 / i7-4790K - 38.3 FPS average), looking along the line at upgrading either CPU or GPU, the gains are just comically small. Unless you absolutely max out on both. And then yeah, you can get vapid's 'generally always "ok" for me. But does drop occasionally in the the "WTH" level of low fps' ;)

On the plus side though, it might allow someone to retain their current performance, given performance and load times have been getting steadily worse with every patch ;)

They did manage to run an event with an Idris and a Javelin in the same place this year. But they had to cap the server at 40, remove a moon and its station, and the thing still left the server struggling for air and brought 3080s to their knees...

---

Getting the Basics Working:

On tech and content, my personal outsider take is that the only stuff they've managed to add of any stability, is mainly chaff. Fun chaff, in some cases, like physics-gun tractor beams that actually let you load cargo, without dying on the threshold in a mesh of physics grids when carrying a box. But ultimately chaff. Compared to the bigger technical challenges. Like fixing the actual physics grids ;). Or getting 'Server Meshing' working. There's like precious little movement on those fundamental fronts.

Guess we'll see if they finally manage to get the physics grids of the big Hull ships, and the docking platforms, to mainly work, as they claim to be doing. That'd be something.

In the meantime though it's all just been C&P prison systems (using existing foot mining tech, and still deeply prone to bugginess & terrible entrapment...), or tedious-seeming refining menus (in lovely assets). Or ragdoll systems which knock you over if a ship's jet is too near. (Or if you foolishly walk over the wrong step). It all screams 'doing what we can, because we can't do the big stuff...'.

But hey, they sold some new ships ;)

(No they don't really do anything new technically...)

Thats good to hear at least.

Yeahhh, you might wanna hear Pug's last trip report before you let him sign off like that...

I get back - jump out my ship and my helmet had miraculously come of and I choked to death before the helmet would initialise. I usually check to.
Good old SC, I'll give it another year or 8

Hey it was one instance and for clarity it was a pew pew run that ended with me getting out my ship and my helmet had been removed and I choked to death on the landing pad :)
Oh and the gun fighting has went from very very easy to .nothing. nothing.. Blam your dead.
But... there have been a few improvements Golgot, it's not All bad.

I did tell you to wait for it Nuke :)

Wait till they get in to the monetary side of things and what should be expected for the pennies.

Hah yeah it's cool man. I'm not actually saying there haven't been improvements, or that it's all bad. I noted some improvements ;). (I just don't think all those little improvements can mask the absence of big, promised technical ones...)

I just thought it was a bit glib of you to say 'yep improved', when the stuff Nuke was specifically asking about doesn't actually seem to have improved at all. IE: performance (definitely worse over the last year), and general glitchiness. (Given that dying to an unintended helmet toggle is one of various new ways to glitch-die introduced in the last year ;)).

I thought the last update solved it as it used to happen every time I came out the mobi-glas so I stopped checking.

You are definitely correct, I can be Glib. Especially on a Friday night 👯‍♂️

I haven't fallen through as much stuff lately though or died on stairs, but TBH I haven't tried that hard.

I did get stuck in a 300i loading ramp right enough, why are it's legs so short....
