I just got blown up by my own carrier, while defending myself from the police that are meant to defend my carrier.

I’m flabbergasted that no one is looking at this from the perspective of the carrier crew. Picture the scene; you’re fresh out of Off-screen NPC Academy, proud as punch in your new uniform that mam ironed for you before you started your first day. Suddenly COVAS screeches that you’re under attack, sirens are going off and the captain is yelling orders, you’ve probably wet yourself by now and your hands are shaking. Now the captain is yelling at you THIS IS NOT A DRILL, RETURN FIRE! and before you can say ‘but I think it was just a stray round Cap’n’ he grabs you by the collar and showers you with spittle as he roars DEATH TO THE LOITERERS! and there’s nothing you can do except fire everything at whatever rogue Pilots’ Fed target he’s pointing at and then curl up in a foetal position, still crying and wishing you were safe back at the academy.
Nobody signs up to be cannon fodder for when their apparently mentally unstable boss goes on a rampage. Knock out the ship to stop them doing more damage, scoop up the escape pod and let them sleep it off while you get the replacement ship set up. Hopefully they'll be calm when they wake up again. It's an unconventional job, but it pays well (you'd hope so anyway).

Just sell the escape pod to Kumo, promote internally, hire a new deck scrubber, and don't tell the pilot's federation.

That's how I got my license.

first of all the police shouldnt come to protect the carrier if the owner is hostile in the system, that seems kinda obvious.

They ain't there to protect it, they're there to make sure you're not doing dodgy in their system, in your case, existing, as they are hostile to you.

Secondly, I think the carrier shouldve opened fire on the police, carriers should defend their owners.

This is debatable. I pretty much agree, but carriers are invulnerable so it'd just be a lot of police being destroyed, probably causing BGS problems.

Thirdly, why in the hell is it even possible for a carrier to open fire on its owner? Even if I purposfully shoot it, it SHOULDNT open fire on its owner, I spent 5 billion credits on that thing and it blew me up (this is the second time)

This, 100% this. You carrier should NEVER ever fire on you, you should never be able to commit a crime against it, or get a fine or bounty by doing anything to it. It is your property.

your carrier is not owned by you. You're just a leasee, those guys working your ship work for the company that built and actually owns the carrier. Your rental agreement says you can't open fire on the company's property.

You're not even addressed any different from a common pilot, nor are you allowed on the bridge when docked. What makes you think you own it or have any special privs outside of those specified in your lease agreement?

in the world of the 1%, we carrier owners are common enough that if we dont like how the Brewer company treats us, we can cancel the agreement and move on. They'll find someone else to rent the carrier. There's more than enough customers for them. We're not special.

Frontier have covered this. We do own them.

OMG - the replies from the 'old guard' in this thread are reminding me why I barely venture into these forums these days, and why I haven't played the game in over a year. 🤦‍♂️

Yes, @sharp312 - you are correct that it is indeed very dumb that your own fleet carrier would try to shoot down it's employer/owner because of a stray shot. I know several of the forum users are trying their best to convince you that it's your own fault for shooting at your fleet carrier, but they're being wilfully ignorant on several points:
  • Fleet carriers are indestructible, and so it was in absolutely no danger from your stray shot.
  • It's your fleet carrier - treating you as hostile should be the last resort, not the first.
  • The game should implement significant leeway for stray shots made against your own employees and property, especially for something as big and immovable as a fleet carrier.
For me, the prospect of having a high intensity battle around your fleet carrier against multiple hostiles sounds like a lot of fun. Having a stray shot result in me becoming hostile with my own fleet carrier such that I have to abandon it indefinitely sounds like the opposite of fun. 😏

So, I jumped my carrier into a system where I am hostile toward the police force. The moment the carrier exited hyperspace I heard the battle music and when I left the landing pad I was already being shot at by a condor and a viper mk3. I started firing back and it was all good, until the viper boosted past my carrier for cover and my stray multi cannon fire hit my carrier, immediately my carrier opened fire and within seconds I was destroyed.

What the hell?

Theres a ton of things wrong with this, first of all the police shouldnt come to protect the carrier if the owner is hostile in the system, that seems kinda obvious.
Secondly, I think the carrier shouldve opened fire on the police, carriers should defend their owners.

The only time ive seen my carrier use its weapons is when its using them on either me, or my wingmates. My wingmates have also been destroyed by my carrier in the past.
Another reminder that you don't actually own the Fleet Carrier, you're renting it. The 5BCr+ you spent wss a security deposit.

Remember back when some cynical posters said "So carriers are just stations you can move around then?"

This is funny on so many levels.
