ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road to Odyssey - Mission Playthrough

Some potentially interesting gameplay ideas, but the AI seems a bit rubbish, no? Also, the shooting looks very meh. I can't say watching this has got me very excited.

It also kept making me think of Borderlands, which I'm not sure is a good thing!

so "infiltrating" and empty, absolutely lifeless settlement, with watch drones flying over your head apparently oblivious of your presence, then using an assortment of overdesigned and pointless gimmicks to solve the puzzle of the day, then walk out through a braindead collection of zombi bullet sponges ... that's it? not even in a premade demo movie it gets anywhere near exciting ...

i mean, as a hardcore fan i'll be ok with the new planets (they do look nice), but as a fps this is so pathetic that now i'm even concerned that the franchise survives at all if they dare to release this crap. it's going to be a real arxestorm. frontier you are still in time to call this off.
Hardcore fan? Seems you are looking for problems where they dont exist
What sort of life would you expect in a small munitions dump?
They weren't on hostile terms with the faction, they landed on the landing pad why would the drones do anything but observe?

There were both sec forces and civilians walking around the settlement in and out of buildings. As far as I understood the "infiltrators" were actually clean and the settlement had "open doors", i.e. no reason for skimmers or sec forces to shoot on sight or raise alarms unless they did something illegal, which they eventually did.

Nice, that explains my biggest gripe which was the absolute unresponsiveness of the settlement dwellers towards what I thought was a breach. (y)

What exactly was rubbish about the AI? They needed to show a successful mission attempt

everything about this is classic elite lol

it looks lovely and it sounds lovely, but golly does it seem dull to play, in particular i'm very concerned about the AI

i know in a lot of game showcases devs make the game easier or hamstring the AI for the purposes of showing off the game, but in this case I really don't think it's super unlikely that we just saw a close approximation of the end product

honestly, that's even more worrying considering the alpha is expected in less than three weeks.

unless you're saying that either the footage or the specific builds are months old ... which would be really odd to release now.

that's what there is, and there's just 3 more weeks difference at most. nada.
I think the build is quite old, but the footage was filmed recently. Its probably the last complete stable build they had

Yes, they were using an old build. They even confirmed the current version of that exact settlement is completely different, it's on a cliff (I think Arthur said)

modern software development: different teams will be doing different builds of different components, the Alpha those who chose to play test it will be testing those various components as they come online.

wishful modern software development, but good for you. ;)

To me, they seemed dumbed and lacked aggression and group tactics.
The players were only hostile once the power went out at the end, they werent hostile when they entered the base (they got planning permission to land etc). Did you watch the livestream? The AI will need to communicate a problem before there is a group aggressive response, so you can even try to make sure that doesnt happen, but with the power offline the NPCs did converge as a group. Dont see the problem.

why? what makes you think they used an old build to record a recent demo?

i don't mean what excuses one might come up to explain such a thing, i mean the real rational argument to get an old build to tease content while having something better just a compile away?

What exactly concerning about the AI? Obviously we only saw footage of them successfully completing the mission, did you watch the livestream even? They didnt say this was their first attempt at such a mission.
