Interdictions...

  • interdictors and interdicting works with range of the interdictor module in seconds(!). which means a) the interdictor needs to be close or getting closer to the interdicted and b) be in range. that's why you are either interdicted at entry or while decellerating towards station/body. hutton orbital will not come with more interdictions, as you can only be interdicted at the beginning or the end.
  • sensors in supercruise work with range of seconds (!) as well. which means, if you are flying slower (for exampel because close to a body) you won#t see the npc. as spawning of npc oftemn happens close to bodies, it usually takes some time before they §see" you.

i really recommend doing some pve piracy or bountyhunting with an interdictor module - it taught me a lot about how that generally works, and allowed me to approach getting interdicted or not more effectively. change sides for some time.

Thanks!

I will try to do some PVE bounties at some point to unlock some of the engineers, and get the hang of it. My so-called "PVE Vulture" is still gathering dusk in Sol system.

Scooping is really an annoying habit I will probably never get rid of, since first and foremost I am an explorer, and whenever I see a scoopable star, I get weak at the knees and I have to do it. Old habits die hard, even though I carry a lot of FSD injection mats in all possible combinations and I have a pretty good jump range anyway. But yeah.

Indeed, I was talking about NPC interdictions, I know players are something different. But I need to try and remember when I last played in open? I think never. I am just rocking the whole universe in either solo or private lobby, I cannot be bothered otherwise.
Despite my preoccupation in insisting the "secure storage" in my FC's be mainly full (and I would wholeheartedly recommend a 'life of crime' as fun RP in the game) I too spring from mainly explorer beginnings and suffer the same attraction of scoopable stars.

In recent times, despite the 'dread feeling in my gut', I have forced myself to forsake a scoop on most ships (having a FC does give a bit of a security blanket - but I digress) and add cargo / reinforcements etc. in their place - ensuring that the shiny-shiny appearing in view on arrival cannot drag me from my mission in hand... The sacrifices one makes...

I think my most "emotional" moment as an explorer was when I hit three unscoopable systems in a row on the way to Star One, and it made me open the galaxy map to check what stars I had ticked on my list :ROFLMAO:

Got you. Yes, I'm the same really. van when using the carrier, I scout ahead (in the black this is) with my Dolphin to find a suitable system for the FC to be called to, I still have a scoop on it, I still scoop, despite being able to call the carrier to any system I want should I run out of fuel. As you say, creatures of habit.

I haven't really had any of these interdiction worries for a couple of years. I had a spate of either stacking trade runs (all Elite ranked) or taking on wing trade runs (again, all Elite ranked) when I was lower ranked. I had a Python, had removed the shields to make the job quicker but faced around 6 interdictions on a one jump run. Obviously I wasn't hanging around for the fight and it got a bit tiresome of submitting then evading so I tried to find ways of evading the process as a whole. Sometimes it was good, other times, not so good but if I had done nothing then I would have had to faced them all, so I cut some out at least.

I spend most of the time in the black, coming back to the bubble to either unlock engineers and upgrade modules, or to gain enough rank for various permits.

In the black no one will interdict you. Or almost no one. Thargoids, man... pulling me out of the jump somewhere in Witch Head sectors...

i often use long running high ranked missions to ensure interdicting npcs for bgs bountie redeems, hoping for 2 pirates spawning, get them to fight each other by evading their shots, so they hit each other, and then finish them off in my dbe/cobra/trading ship...

as i have the habit to stop what i'm doing and look into something, almost all ships have a fuelscoop...

Yes, I have only come back to the bubble to finish off my combat rank, I cannot wait to get back out though.

Thargoids, I wish I could get excited about them but that the only real interaction with them is to kill them, meh.

This is another excellent point. I mainly got to the rank of Dangerous by doing trade runs (making money) but expecting the interdiction and having a fight, so more money (bounties) and combat rank. This is why the interdictions thing, for me, isn't broken, either way it opens up avenues, either in gaining rank/money or being forced into learning a range of evasion skills. That it might not suit my particular way, in that exact instance, does not require any game change. It would restrict, rather than open.
